The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is set during World War II. There are four children who had to be sent to live with Professor Kirke because their mother wanted them to be safe. The children decide to play hide and seek in the house one day and the youngest girl Lucy found a wardrobe to hide in. When Lucy was in the wardrobe she found herself in a strange place. The wardrobe had led her to a land full of snow. When Lucy started walking around she met a fawn named Tumnus. He took her to his house. She became friends with him until he broke down and explained to her that he worked for the White Witch. He was supposed to capture humans, but she begged him to let her go, which he did.
When Lucy came back through the wardrobe her siblings thought she was crazy for ever making something like that up. When Lucy decided to go back through the wardrobe, the younger boy, Edmund, followed her. He found himself enjoying Turkish delights with the White Witch that Tumnus had told Lucy about. Lucy and Edmund met at the lamppost which is the border between Narnia and the real world.
One day all the children had to hide from the housekeeper and so they went to the wardrobe. When they got in all four of them found themselves in Narnia. Lucy wanted them to meet Tumnus but he had been arrested. They set out to try to find him when they came across Mr. Beaver. He explained that all they could do is go see Aslan, who is the King of Narnia. The children all agreed except for Edmund because he liked the White Witch so he set out to warn her. When she hears this she is furious because she doesn't want the children to rule Narnia, and overthrow her.
The Witch set out to get to Aslan before the children but failed. Aslan's followers set out to find Edmund and he was rescued. The Witch and Aslan talk and The White Witch wanted Edmund's life because she said he was a traitor. Aslan sacrificed his life for Edmunds. Susan and Lucy stay with his dead body over night but when they woke up he was gone.
The three witches are being punished for their witchcraft in 1693 as they were taking the souls of countless children. 300 years later, on Halloween, a skeptical boy by the name of Max, his younger sister Dani, and his school crush Allison go to investigate the Sanderson sisters house to see if any kind of supernatural things take place. While in the house Max lights the black candle, not truly believing that anything would happen, but the Sanderson sisters come back to life, and this would be the beginning of chaos striking the city of Salem and all the children within it.
Right when he finds them, Betty becomes sick and won't talk or open her eyes, about this time other people's daughters become sick too. Rumors spread that witch craft is involved in Betty's illness and the development of the plot begins. Important to the major development of the plot is the fact that in the forest, Abigail and the others were just playing like witches. But they were following Abigail because she wanted to try to put a curse on a lady named Elizabeth Proctor. Abigail was in love with Mrs. Proctor's husband, John Proctor, and she wanted to some how get rid of Elizabeth.
Mary Warren, their house servant, enters. She tells of a death sentence for one of the accused witches. She gives Elizabeth a is a small doll made to represent a person.
C.S. Lewis was born in Belfast, Ireland, which is now Northern Ireland, on November 29, 1892. In 1916 he was accepted to University College, which is the oldest college at Oxford University. After enrolling he volunteered for active duty in World War I. Following the end of the war he returned to Oxford and graduated with first-class honors in Greek and Latin literature, Philosopy, Ancient History, and English Literature. After graduation, he taught at Oxford for 29 years before he became a professor of Mideval and Rennaissance literature in 1955. In addition to teaching, Lewis began to write and published his first major work, The Pilgrim’s Regress, in 1933. Following his first work was a series of children’s books known as The Chronicles of Narnia. Since then, the series has sold over 100 million copies. He published the first in the series, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, in 1950. Although it was often criticized for clashing elements, it remains a perfect mixture of courage and Christian symbolism.
The youngest Pevensie brother, Edmund, is the mischievous child among his siblings in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. He is a representation of the possibility of what can go wrong when a child is not properly taught and does not follow set boundaries. Edmund’s subversion of set standards is the cause of a great deal of the troubles the Pevensies face in Narnia. For example, when he goes to the White Witch’s castle instead of listening to the others when they say Aslan is the true leader. In order to redeem himself, he must first be renewed and return to an earlier state. He is not allowed to stay indignant, but is reformed when he learns that Aslan is really the true ruler, and Jadis is not. He is allowed to do so because of his status as a child who is still developing. Edmund’s corruption and later redemption show that he is not really wicked, but has an innate goodness.
There is a picture of a ship on the wall and as Eustace calls Narnia, fake water begins coming into the room out of the picture. The next thing they know is they are in the ocean and the ship is on their side. The ship is a group of Narnians sailing east looking for the seven lost lords of Narnia. Caspain, the king of Narnia, leads the search group along with Ripecheep, the leader of the talking mice. In Narnia, animals talk and walk around like humans: Edmund, Lucy, and Eustace.
First of all, Aslan and the White Witch are the representation of the good and evil throughout their respective physical and physiological descriptions. Beginning with Aslan, his physical description is reassuring and represent the good for children. He is the King of Narnia and he is a lion, the King of the Beast. He has great power and he is fierce. But, those qualities make him a safe friend for good people, because he is the protector of nice people and he fights evil. His goodness and his power can be show when the Beavers are first explaining who Aslan is to the four children: “[…] ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. C.S Lewis is the author of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Warrdrobe. Lewis was born on November 29, 1898, in Belfast, Ireland. He was born Clive Staples Lewis to Flora August Hamilton Lewis and Albert J. Lewis. Lewis’s mother passed away when he was on ten years old. After his mother died he went on to get his pre-college education at boarding schools and he also received help from a tutor. Lewis served in World War I with the English Army, but unfortunately was sent home when he was wounded. Lewis was a graduate of Oxford University with a focus on classic philosophy and literature. As a child, he was disappointed with the Christian faith, but when he became older he found himself embracing Christianity. During World War II, he gave popular radio broadcasts on Christianity and they won many converts. Lewis’ speeches were collected in Mere Christianity. In the year of 1954, C.S. Lewis joined the staff of Cambridge University as a literature professor. He met an English teacher by the name of Joy Gresham and in 1956 they married each other and became a happily married family. The two were joyful during their marriage; unfortunately in 1960, the wife became ill with cancer died. Lewis began publishing his works in the mid- 1920s. Lewis started to publish The Chronicles of Narnia during the 1950s. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was the first in the seven book series to be released. This was the story of four siblings who discovered a wardrobe with a magical land in the back of it (“Clives…”). In The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Lewis describes Aslan, Edmund, and Lucy.

He sneered and jeered at Lucy and kept on asking her if she'd found any other new countries in other cupboards all over the house” (Lewis 14). He wanted to be a “realistic” thinker, resulting in him thinking adversely from his siblings. This fit him into an “evil” moralistic standpoint. However, after he witnesses the cruelty of the Witch, he realizes that he does not think along the same lines as her and begins to shift moralistic viewpoints. After being saved by Aslan, he realizes that he has acted in a negative way and reverses his decision-making, resulting in his shift to “good”. “Edmund shook hands with each of the others and said to each of them in turn, ‘I'm sorry’ (Lewis 76).
It is amazing how a seemingly educated woman that has won Oscar awards for her documentaries, could possibly be so far off base in her review of the Disney movie “The Lion King”. Margaret Lazarus has taken a movie made for the entertainment of children and turned it into something that is racist, sexist and stereotypes gender roles. She uses many personal arguments to review the movie but offers few solutions. The author is well organized but she lacks alternate points of view and does not use adequate sources. Lazarus utilizes the statement at the end of her review that “the Disney Magic entranced her children, but they and millions of other children were given hidden messages that could only do them and us harm” (118). She makes her point by saying that “the Disney Magic reinforces and reproduces bigoted and stereotyped views of minorities and women in our society” (Lazarus 117). She makes comparisons such as elephant graveyards are like ghettos (Lazarus 118). Other lines of reasoning Lazarus gives us are about Whoopie Goldberg using inner city dialect, the villain Scar being gay, and only those born to privilege can bring about change (118).
The Chronicles of Narnia are veritably the most popular writings of C.S. Lewis. They are known as children’s fantasy literature, and have found favor in older students and adults alike, even many Christian theologians enjoy these stories from Lewis; for there are many spiritual truths that one can gleam from them, if familiar with the Bible. However, having said this, it is noteworthy to say that Lewis did not scribe these Chronicles for allegorical didactics of the Christian faith, but wrote them in such a well-knit fashion that young readers might understand Christian doctrine through captivating fantasy and thus gain an appreciation for it. With this in mind, and in the interest of this assignment, the purpose of this paper is an attempt to analyze one of the many doctrines of the Christian faith from The Lion, The Witch, And, The Wardrobe (LWW), namely, temptation and how Lewis illustrates it through an individual character, Edmund.

The Wizard of Oz was directed by Victor Fleming and was released in 1939. The movie is about Dorothy Gale, a young girl living on a farm in Kansas with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry. Dorothy gets into some trouble with her neighbor, Miss Gulch, but everyone else on the farm is too busy to pay attention to her. Miss Gulch arrives with the sheriff to take away Dorothy’s dog Toto, because he bit her leg. Toto escapes the sheriff and Dorothy decides to run away with Toto. She meets a fortune teller who makes her, falsely, believe that Aunt Em is ill. So she runs home straight away, but as she gets there a tornado starts coming up. Not being able to get into the cellar, she is knocked out by flying debris and awakens to the house being carried away by the twister. The house lands in the World of Oz in Munchkin Land. Dorothy is greeted by Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, and the Munchkins. Dorothy is treated like a heroine because she killed the Wicked Witch of the East. Glinda transfers the witch’s ruby slippers to Dorothy’s feet, and the Wicked Witch of the West swears revenge on her. Dorothy is told to follow the yellow brick road to the Emerald City and talk to the Wizard of Oz to get her back home. On the way, she befriends the brainless Scarecrow, the heartless Tin Man, and the cowardly Lion. They get into some trouble, along the way, but they get to the Wizard. He said that he wouldn’t help unless they return with the broom of the Wicked Witch of the West. After a lot of danger and the kidnapping of Dorothy, her new friends save her and Dorothy kills the evil witch. The witch’s guards rejoice and give Dorothy the broom.
