The word inclusion represents a famous quote from Lilo and Stitch: “Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.” Similar to Lilo’s relationship to Stitch, inclusion is being there for someone who does not fit in, can be socially anxious or extroverted to a point that may seem out-of-place. In the case of Stitch’s inclusion into Lilo’s life, Lilo had seen a “dog” that everyone was afraid of, knowing she had not fit in with children her age. It became her goal to make friends with him and help him adjust to life on earth, adopting him into her family. Inclusion is just that, adding someone to your group of friends, discussions, and activities. While I attend Virginia Tech, I plan to advance this concept of inclusion
on campus with the people that struggle with making friends and fitting in. I will constantly stay aware of my surroundings for an individual who seems isolated and include them in walks to class, dining halls, and if they are interested, in my group of friends. In class, this means reaching out to the soft-spoken individuals and give them the opportunities to join study groups and provide a friend to them. I know how bad feeling alone is. This feeling can leave a crippling hole in an individual’s chest-a feeling that can consume them. Inclusion is one way that I use to solve this loneliness and plan to continue at Virginia Tech.
It happened all too fast, the collision to laying in the hospital unable to move or speak in only the blink of an eye. Throughout the book Untwine, Giselle Boyer faces many problems when she is caught in a sudden accident that kills her twin sister, Isabelle Boyer.
One of the themes of the novel Bud, Not Buddy By Christopher Paul Curtis is family protects and understands you, giving you a place to belong. I believe that this is a theme of the story because even though Bud doesn’t have a mom or dad, the band is like a family to Bud and they protect Bud and understand him and they also let Bud stay at their house. First, Mrs. Sleet lets Bud at her house and gives him the essentials that he needs. “‘Now, while you wash up, I’m going to get some clothes that my boy outgrew a while ago, barely been used’”(Curtis 120). Even though Mrs. Sleet isn’t Bud’s family, she protects him and lets him stay at her house for a few days. Next, Mrs. Thomas feels sorry for Bud
How does this text either help you to explore and understand the possibilities of belonging or exclude you from connecting with the world it represents?
The concept of belonging and how it’s conveyed is through the connections to people, places, groups, communities and the wider world. For someone to feel that they belong, they must feel the support of friends and family. Barriers also exist for people not to belong to a group or society and can lead to negative repercussions. This is explored both in Jane Harrison play “Rainbows End” and “The Little Refugee” by Anh Do and Suzanne Do. Both texts explore the stages of a physical connection to a place, while being alienated, from the desire of not being accepted for being different of unalike.
In 2009, R&B singer, Maxwell released to the world Pretty Wings, a song in which meeting the right girl at the wrong time becomes bittersweet. Black was the first album of Maxwell 's BLACK summer 's night trilogy. He explained to MTV News "Three sides of my crazy personality. Black is dark. Summer 's is the lighter side. That album is more of a gospel side - not in the traditional sense, but more like Deepak Chopra meets that minister or that pastor down in the South somewhere. The Night album is the ultimate love record (Pretty Wings by Maxwell Songfacts)”.
Appropriation in itself is an attempt towards assimilation in which the superior culture picks and chooses aspects of the minority tradition, absorbs them into majority society in a new, inauthentic manner, and all the while completely disregarding the traditions they do not favor. While Fanon, says that the possibility for integration is what is needed in order to achieve equality in society, Baldwin’s theory on black acceptance into white society means that the success of integration is unlikely. With assimilation comes the risk of the minority culture losing itself completely to the dominant culture. The issue of integration is that neither white nor black society seeks to participate in a cultural exchange resulting in an equal intermingling
In the silent film Broken Blossoms, the lighting, setting, and color change drastically. D.W. Griffith manipulates the mise-en-scene, altering the lighting, setting, and color change drastically not only connecting scenes but also to creating clear separations. The film breaks Cheng Huan’s first encounter with Lucy Burrows into three different colored segments: yellow, blue, and purple. These tints paired with other elements of mise-en-scene convey a seemingly dichotomous message regarding the nature of kindness and of their relationship.
Kierder adds this narrative into his essay because he wanted to show people that he never was really a cat person. Therefore the handkerchief implied considerable measures to Othello, although it was given to him by his mother. The cloth holds unique powers, and if its lost so will the devotion in their marriage. “To Othello the handkerchief is a sentimental item he provided for Desdemona and inquiring that she treasure it, in this way to him it’s an image of his affection for her and of the confidence and trust which tie their marriage; by losing it she is dismissing him”. Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 was a musical work written by Franz Liszt, which encompassed the composing styles of the romantic period. He took many of the stylistic attributes from the romantic period allowing his creativity to come into play within the piece of music. Inclusion in classrooms is defined as combining students with disabilities and students without disabilities together in an educational environment. It provides all students with a better sense of belonging. They will enable friendships and evolve feelings of being a member of a diverse community (Bronson, 1999). Inclusion benefits students without disabilities by developing a sense of helping others and respecting other diverse people. By this, the students will build up an appreciation that everyone has unique yet wonderful abilities and personalities (Bronson, 1999). This will enhance their communication skills later in life. Inclusive classrooms provide students with disabilities a better education on the same level as their peers. Since all students would be in the same educational environment, they would follow the same curriculum and not separate ones based on their disability. The main element to a successful inclusive classroom, is the teachers effort to plan the curriculum to fit all students needs. Teachers must make sure that they are making the material challenging enough for students without special needs and understandable to students with special needs. Inclusive classrooms are beneficial to students with and without special needs.

The classic tale of Cinderella is well known for the fight of overcoming great obstacles despite great odds. However, there are always a few ill-hearted people who go out of their way to cease any competition that they might face, as seen with Cinderella’s step-sisters. Samuel Jackson says is his distinguished quote, “The hunger of imagination…lures us to…the phantoms of hope,” to help develop a more defined view of a fairytale. The story of Cinderella fully embodies the ideals of a true fairytale by encompassing magic, hope, and struggle between good and evil throughout the duration of the plot.
