The author Laura Esquivel wrote the book, “ Like Water for Chocolate” ,It was very enjoyable to read. This book takes place during a war. It tells a story of a girl who falls in love with a man who she could not marry. He ends up marrying her older sister , Rosaura, just to be able to be near her. Pedro and Rosaura had two kids, the first died of a sickness. Towards the end of the story Tita and Pedro finally are able to be together, but then something tragic happens.Tita is the hero in this story because she rebels against wrongful things and stands up for the people around her. She is also very brave and kind!
When Pedro comes to ask for Tita’s hand in marriage, Mama Elena tells her that she will not marry him because she is to look after her mother until the day she dies. Tita tries to tell her mother her opinion on why she should marry him, but her mother will not have it. Mama Elena speaks to Pedro and his father, telling them “But if you really want Pedro to get married, allow me to suggest my daughter Rosaura, who’s just two years older than Tita. She is one hundred percent available, and ready for marriage...” (13). She said Rosaura was more prepared, and more responsible. Pedro agrees to marry her, but it is only so he can be near Tita. Tita is 100 percent against this marriage. She is mad at her mother, her sister, and especially Pedro. She is the first one who rebelles against her mother; her mother was tries to get Tita to break, but she will not show any weakness when her mother is around. This book talks about how a young women named Tita who rebels against her mother, Mama Elena , for the better. She was the only person who was able to stand up to her. No one had the guts to tell her that she was wrong, but Tita was brave enough to tell her that she wanted to marry the love of her life,Pedro. But Mama Elena arranged for Pedro to marry Rosaura, Titas older sister. After the wedding, even though Pedro married Rosaura he would always try to sneak around with Tita, just to be alone with her. Tita showed her love to Pedro by cooking Quail in Rose Petal Sauce. She used the flowers that her gave her. During dinner Pedro could feel Titas love for him , just by eating the food that she had prepared.
