W.Somerset Maugham said “There are three rules for writing a good book. Unfortunately no one knows what they are.” Life Of Pi displays examples of writing a good book. It includes characters that inspire readers, a message to the readers, and a twist to the story.

One rule to writing a good book is to have a character that will inspire the readers. A character that will show the right from wrong, and bravery and strength in a tough situation. Life of Pi displays that through a character named Pi Patel. He was at sea with his family who planned on setting sail from India to Canada was for political freedom. However on this journey the ship suffered a storm and many were killed, including Pi’s family. He survived the accident. All Pi had was some water, food, small boat, and a tiger. At first Pi tried to get rid of the tiger and kill the tiger, but they got to know each other and trust each other and became all each other had. Pi went through a lot of hardship being out at sea with barely any food or water or people to talk to besides Richard Parker but he stayed strong through it and …show more content…

Life of Pi does have many twists but one that i liked the best was when he got stuck on the floating island of carnivorous creatures. When Pi found the island he was so happy to find the food and fresh water and it was like nothing he had ever seen before. After spending a little while on the island he started to notice strange things. All the animals would flee at the same time of day like something was coming for them. And when he looked inside a flower in the tree he saw the teeth of a human. This twist in the story led readers to wonder what the island was, if he was going to survive and why he came across the island. The Japanese reporters didn't believe Pi when he told them of the island, I think the island represented Pi losing his faith for a little from losing his family, and everything else but of course he got through
