Everyone in this world has many responsibilities and differences. The responsibilities that these citizens have must be fulfilled. If the responsibilities are not fulfilled then, this world would kind of be messed up. The responsibilities and roles are citizens have protects our world, which helps us to be safe. The responsibility and role for our citizens is imperative to the outcome of how we function in society. Each person plays certain roles and contributes to society in specific ways by protecting our nation, keeping everyone safe, and doing your role as a citizen. In the “The Sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty, the main character’s role was to protect and serve for his nation and its citizens. For example, when the republican got shot, he
In “The Sniper” the conflict is man vs man, which means main character is tasked with killing his enemy, but it proves to be quite a challenge. Even though there were many challenges the sniper followed through with his job and persevered even after he was shot in the arm. Wanting to kill his enemy, stay alive, and be one step closer to ending the war was his main goals. Being brave, he took off his hat, placed it on his gun, and raised it above the edge of the roof. Instantly the enemy shot at it and the sniper, pretending to be dead, waited until the enemy got up for him to shoot him. He did some quick thinking and, with determination, handled the conflict quite well.
In Liam O'Flaherty's "The Sniper," all of these. are brought to an acute reality in a single war-torn city. Strong cerebral convictions and opposing philosophies, due to which people want to destroy the seemingly “wrong” plague this world and are the ones who are the ones who are the main reason for the plight. To aid in his creation of such emotional conflict, turmoil and plight, the author has portrayed the sniper as a very controversial character in the story. This story is oriented around one character in the Civil War which he should not even be in as he is. mentioned to be a “student” in the story.
Liam O’Flaherty’s realistic fiction story, “The Sniper,” takes place in Dublin, Ireland, where there is a civil war waging between Republicans and Free Staters. The Republican sniper, who is the main character in the story, is fighting in the civil war for the Republican organization. There are numerous amounts of people who are attempting to assassinate the sniper because of his organization, and his enemies are located all around him waiting patiently until they gain their chance. The Republican sniper, however, leaps before he looks most times, thus leading to severe consequences throughout the story. By using description and suspense, O’Flaherty creates the lesson that actions, without thought, will lead to consequences.
As we saw earlier, both authors of both stories were born in different places and did many things. “The Sniper” sets in Dublin, Ireland, during a time of a bitter civil war. It was a war between the Republicans, which wanted Ireland to become ...
The main character of “The Sniper” is the republican sniper and the main character of the “Cranes” is Songsam. In “The Sniper”, the sniper is in a war and he is trying to kill his enemy. At the beginning of the story, he is on a rooftop near O’Connell Bridge lay watching. Beside him lay his rifle and over his shoulders was slung pair of field glasses. He looked like he was a student. He was self disciplined but was extremely devoted towards the war. He was eating a sandwich because he eaten nothing since morning. He is going to smoke but he paused and thought whether he should or shouldn’t but he did. In the “Cranes”, Korean War is going on. During this war, many villages along the thirty-eighth parallel changed hands several times.
The basic plot of the story is based during an evening within the Irish civil wars. It tells of a republican sniper sitting on a rooftop and neutralising enemy units as the cross a bridge. When a free-states sniper shows himself on an opposite roof they wage a fierce and innovative war to see who would end up the better. Eventually the republican sniper gains the upper hand and after taking a bullet in the arm destroys the worthy opponent. After a curious inspection to the identity of the enemy sniper he finds himself looking into the eyes of his dead brother.
In conclusion, the Sniper is, interestingly, a complete contradiction in himself. He is both experienced and amateur, cold and emotional, lusting after war and hating it, self-assured and vulnerable, and logical and mad. This stark paradox may create much of the inner conflict that goes on within the Sniper, and also reflects the outer conflict of the Irish war- a war where both sides are essentially opposing parts of the same whole.
Many conflicts erupt in the short story, “The Sniper.” The obvious conflict will have to be the fight between the Republican and Free Starter snipers during the Irish Civil War, “Republicans and Free Starters were waging civil
The setting to “The Sniper” plays a vital role in understanding the meaning O’Flaherty was trying to convey. The main character is sitting on a rooftop near O’Connell Bridge in Dublin Ireland. During the Irish Civil War, the river that flowed beneath the bridge, was the dividing line in the Battle of Dublin. From the beginning, when civilians watched the opening attacks from atop the bridge, to the end, when it shook from the final bombing that forced the Republicans to surrender, the bridge was a key factor to the end result of the war. Civil and political importance is necessary so that we don’t lose that right, like other countries. It also helps so that our voices are heard and our decisions are based on what people want, not what top officials want. Without civic and political participation, there may be groups of people in the U.S. that don’t get a voice and may be discriminated against. We as citizens should always strive to make the country better for the future generations, without civic and political participation that may not happen as out voices won’t be heard and the top people will get what they want.
The Sniper is a suspenseful story that is written by Liam O’Flaherty. It is a battle between two snipers in an epic battle. The sniper is a story set in Dublin in the middle of the Irish civil war and it shows how war destroys families. The author uses pacing and order to create suspense by rapid conflicts, speeding up and slowing down the momentum of the story.
The Republican sniper in the beginning was, “too excited to eat.” Through this characterization, O’Flaherty shows the readers that before a battle starts, soldiers are not worrying about harming people, they are just excited to kill the enemies. When the sniper, “fired again” and the woman, “whirled round and fell with a shriek into the gutter.” The author makes the sniper casually kill an innocent woman, and never forms the emotions of the sniper, leading the readers to believe that the sniper does not care. Later on though, after the sniper kills his enemy he, “threw himself face downward onto the corpse.” The sniper clearly does not feel any remorse about killing innocent lives, but feels extreme remorse and curiosity for the sniper he killed. The use of characterization of the Republican sniper display how innocent lives being lost are lesser than people that the sniper knows

The theme of The Sniper was the civil war and how war can destroy a man both in body and mind for the rest of his life. Liam O’Flaherty suggests the horror of war not only by presenting its physical dangers, but also by showing its psychological effects. We are left to wonder which has the longer lasting effect-the visible physical scars or the ones on the inside? The theme of The Most Dangerous Game was hunter hunted and shows the author's point of view on how one who has intellect can overcome one who has intelligence or instinct. The two stories are similar in showing that even under pressure a man can use his reasoning to keep him alive.
A citizen is not just a legal status defined by rights and responsibilities but a shared identity, the expression of one’s membership. A good citizen preserves his personal integrity and avoids the conflict of interest: he equally enjoys his private and public life without discontinuity in his character; he sees the latter neither as a burden nor as a platform to pursue his personal projects. To be a good citizen is to believe that you can make a difference for the better.
