Letter Writing from the McHenry County Adult Correctional Facility, Illinois; I want to voice what I think is necessary for the sake of preserving the principles of democracy and civil liberties that characterize the United States of America. Even though I am a legal student in this country, I am sitting here, in this immigration jail, because I was protesting two days ago at the doors of the Chicago O’Hare airport claiming for the rights of those who are as equal as me. It is sad for me to say that as for January 31st, 2017 there still exist bigotry, discrimination, and xenophobia against us, the immigrants of this big country. I am writing this letter as a person who has given up everything known to embark her journey to chase her dreams. As for me, many immigrants see the United States as the land of opportunities. As for me, I can assure you that the majority of those 42.4 million immigrants came, as well, to pursue their dreams. I can also tell you that as immigrants, we embrace this land as our own, as our home. We not only want to chase our dreams, but also want the best for this country. Words are as powerful as weapons and if a leader feels entitled of promoting discrimination targeting a specific population, his followers will feel entitled as well to discriminate whoever is different in their communities. It is a chain where the message is widespread affecting the society as a whole creating an actual social issue. Now, if we think about the problem itself, it intensifies once actual actions promoting xenophobia and discrimination are taken, such as building a wall, banning people from Muslim countries to entry the country or even stop the influx of civil war refugees, violating different rights universally
