Jeremiah Medine Ms. Quigley English 4/10/24 Letter From Birmingham Jail Expository Essay Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is known for the many great things that he has done in his lifetime. He was a pastor, a leader and played a very major part in the American Civil Rights Movement. Along with all the things that I just mentioned, he was also well known for how he would formulate his letters and speeches to get his point across. King used multiple steps to get his point across and get the audience to empathize with him in his letter from Birmingham Jail. King’s flawless use of metaphors, parallelism and rhetorical devices allow the audience to empathize with King and support him in his fight against racial injustice. He says in the example that the same way the prophets and Paul spread the word of the Lord far beyond where they stayed, Martin wants the same. He doesn’t just want the people of his community to empathize with him and support his fight against racial injustice, he wants everyone in America to know and help him.
