It was St. Patrick's day and the day was coated with green. I got dressed in a green shirt, grabbed my bookbag, and stepped onto the school bus. When I got to school, everything seemed normal, at first. During class for the past week, we had been working on leprechaun traps and today was the day we would put them to the test. We put the finishing touches on our traps and cleaned up our mess. Our class had to leave the classroom to practice for the spring musical. When we left the room, it was spotless, but when we returned, the class shrieked in surprise. Toy bins were overturned and lying on the floor, colorful Legos spilling out. Tables were flipped over and chairs were upside-down. I ran over to my leprechaun trap to see if it had
worked. I picked it up and shook it. There was no leprechaun, to my slight disappointment. However, there was a small chocolate coin at the bottom of the trap. Smiling, I reached in and snatched the chocolate coin. I unwrapped the golden foil and popped the candy into my mouth. The sweet chocolate melted on my tongue and filled me with joy. I was excited to have almost caught a leprechaun. Many other children were still exclaiming about the mess the leprechaun had made, running wild around the room. Through all the chaos, our teacher stood and watched, grinning. Then, when we had all eaten our candy, she smiled and said, "Alright," clapping her handshake. "Now it's time to clean up." The class groaned in protest. We didn't make the mess so why did we have to clean it up? Despite our groaning, we got to work picking up Legos and flipping tables the right way. Looking back upon my time in kindergarten caused me to feel a sense of nostalgia. I look back and realize that I miss the days where there was not much to worry about and I had no responsibilities. In kindergarten, the only thing that there was to worry about was reciting the alphabet. Now I am constantly busy and have to worry about my future. However, this is a fact of life. Everyone must accept responsibility at some point in their lives. Looking back to kindergarten, I regained the sense of being carefree and unaware of what was to come. Kindergarten was a time to have fun and a time to grow.
The United States provides our society with the undeniable right to learn. The right to higher education is not limited to the middle and upper classes; it allows the less privileged, minorities, as well as both sexes, to receive an equal education. Two arguments which present interesting views on higher education are bell hook’s “Keeping Close to Home'; and Adrienne Rich’s “What Does a Woman Need to Know?'; Hooks views higher education with a concern for the underprivileged, whereas Rich views it with a concern for women. Of the two works, I personally do not agree with Rich’s argument.
Hello everyone, I welcome you to “Inside a Directors Mind”. For those unfamiliar with my work, I am Julian Schnabel, director of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. This film follows the tragic struggles Jean-Dominique Bauby faces, a young man who suffers from locked in syndrome; a stroke causing the body and facial muscles to be immobilized while consciousness and eye movement remains. My purpose for tonight is to share three aspects this film employs, allowing it to reach its level of success. These aspects include sound techniques, visual motifs, metaphors and camera angles. Adding to these features, this film also explores the resilience of the human spirit, showing how robust one’s will to survive can be.
The Butterfly Diving Bell sits on my bedside table . It was a busy day when I finished and I'm struggling with how to express my appreciation for the best of the author , Jean - Dominique Bauby . As a beautiful French dessert , each crafted wonderful phrases should be savored. Posted by Bauby bears a sense of humor combined with depression that required for reading and slow digestion . He must have been a Morrissey fan .
It was midmorning on Wednesday, August 28, 2014. I was in seventh grade, an A+ student, at the top of her class. When I finished my homework, I went outside to frolic with the animals. My sister was in her room like usual, the loner or as she calls herself ¨the outcasts of outcasts,¨ my grandparents next door, and my parents at work like usual. They're never home, I've began to get a habit of doing everything myself and without permission.
The first day of school dawned after I had. The morning was cold sunshine on a content blue sky. I was so despondent that I was crying; how would I be able to deal with a new school, with new teachers, guys with beards, and so many of my best friends gone?
The Parent trap that came out in 1998 is an adventure, comedy, and drama remake of the 1961 Hayley Mills version. It is a Disney classic that is not only family oriented and heartwarming, but humorous as well. Though it fits the title as a children's movie, it is one that all ages may enjoy. Whether you like the original Parent Trap or not, it is not hard to enjoy the remake. It tends to bring out emotions with the instantaneous bond between the twins and their parents. Lindsay Lohan plays the dual role of Hallie and Annie with great simplicity. The directors, Meyers and Shyer, have the perfect combination of comedy and romance to keep the hearts of the younger audience, while continuing to keep it profound. The directors did an outstanding job keeping the audience on their feet and excited for what is to come.
Leprechauns are rich! If you want to catch a leprechaun there are a few steps you need to follow.
It was my first week of my freshman year in college. Normally, you want to survive the first week by going to school events and meeting new people. Being the first Saturday night of the school year my new friend and I decided to go to a party in another dorm on campus. Both of us didn’t know what to expect at a college party, so we dressed up and tried to look our best. As I put my black mascara on I knew that this would be a fun night. My friend Jessica knew one of the guys that would be at this gathering because he lived in the same town that she was from. Finally, we leave our dorms and head out to our first college party. We arrived at the party and started to play cards. As the night progressed, poker was getting a little boring and staying in that dorm room wasn’t too much fun either. Abruptly, one of the guys said we should go to a freshman dorm. Everyone grabbed their belongings and headed to central campus. As we walked to central campus many of the boys were whispering about how they were going to cause a ruckus. No one was a resident of this hall, so we had to ask someone who was outside to let us in.
We listened as Mrs. DeCostia enumerated the names of those involved. “Kat, Tara, Kelly, Alexis, Rob, Joe, Matt, and John.” She announced with annoyance. How is it that all my friends got in trouble for the greatest prank in Fairfield’s 75 year history, but my name was left off that prestigious list? I watched my friend’s proud faces as they walked to the front of the room and I laughed as I heard Matt say “So you caught the people, who perfectly reconstructed your room on the roof of the school, but you will never know who the genius behind it was, and as long as that stays a secret, we’ve done our job.” Then Mrs. DeCostia grabbed him by the shirt collar and dragged him outside. Soon there was a wave of people standing and clapping for their hero, the only person to show Mrs. DeCostia what a horrible person she really was. Apparently since my name had been left off the list, they had no intention of revealing it. But still I got the greatest prize of all, even better than being called up there with them: knowing that it was my idea to take every item out of her room and put it on the roof. There was a loud slamming of the door and soon the classroom fell silent. “Whose idea was it?” shouted Mrs. DeCostia. She was answered by silence. “I’ll ask one more time: Whose idea was it?” She said, speaking ever so slowly to ensure he understood. This time she was answered by a deep voice that could only be recognized as John’s. “You’re never gonna know so you might as well give up now.” “Oh, I will find out and when I do that person will be expelled! Now who is it?” Then in a voice that always seemed to say “What are you looking at?” Kat said “Listen lady, I don’t know who you think your dealing with but you’re never gonna know. We’re like...
The next day you arrive at school to see a new sight greet you. Instead of being scolded for showing up late, students immediately begin to praise you. There is no teacher in sight and kids are running around the class, grinning from ear to ear. You here a kid from the back of the party turned classroom howl, "Hero! Hero! Hero!" The entire class joins in the chant. The teacher has quit and didn't give any warning or explanation to the school. A substitute won't be available for another month, a complete month of freedom! Say goodbye to those ruby red cheeks, embarrassment, confusion, your teacher won't dare to even come near you after you've followed all my steps to irritate your teacher.
In the time it had taken me to shower, shave and dress, the brats had managed to make a cataclysmic mess of my kitchen in an effort to find the sweets I had tucked away for myself. The freezer door was hanging open after the brats pawed their way to my cherry popsicles. The pantry door was also open. Half its contents were on the floor when the brats apparently tried to grab my stash of candy bars on the top shelf. My coffee and cookies n’cream ice cream cartons, both mostly empty, were melting on the
Out of the blue, I got called up to the principal’s office. I was panicking to the point where I would ponder
It was what seemed like another regular Sunday morning. I woke up, and got ready for school, I left quickly to the bus station and I arrived just in time. I like taking the bus because it gives me time to think to myself, my school is far from my house so I have plenty of time to think. The bus was empty as usual, I sat in the back where no one can see me like I always do. After 40 minutes the bus arrived to school. I don’t like going to school, because I usually end up spending the day on my own, I don’t have friends at my school, you always hear the stories about the kids that are being bullied at school, but you never hear about the people like me, that are so pathetic that no one even bothers to care about them, people like me we are like ghosts at the school, no one wishes us to have a good day, no one wants to do school projects with us, no one wants to seat with us in class, we are invisible for most people. This day didn’t seem to go any different, it looked like I was going to have another day of being invisible, and I didn’t really matter to me because I stopped caring about it a long time. When the bell rang for recess I went to my regular place in the basement of the school where I can sit by myself where no can see me, but after five minutes of me ...
We headed down to the principal’s office. My heart was pounding. It felt like it was pumping more blood then it needed to pump. The time it took to reach the principal’s office felt like a million years. We were in the office and my teacher showed the picture to the principal. There it was; the inevitable. This was bound to happen. How did I not see this coming? Why did I just ignore my noggin? The principal said, “How ignorant! Three days of in-school-suspension.” My life was draining by the second. It felt as if I was thrown into a dark chamber filled with corpses. Now I realized to always listen to the authority. My life lesson learned: Take policies seriously. No matter what you say to get out of situations, policy always comes out first.
On February 2, 2006 was the worst day of my life. I was 8 years old. In third grade at Lockport Upper Elementary school. I woke up thinking it would be a normal day of school. I knew something was wrong when I opened my eyes and my neighbor was waiting for me to wake up. She asked me what I was going to wear today. I told her my khaki school pants and my red school shirt. That was my daily outfit. But she told me I wasn’t going to school. That’s when you know something is wrong. Your parents aren’t home, your neighbor is getting you dressed and now you’re not going to school. What is going on? So I told her what I wanted to wear. I picked out some black shorts and a blue tshirt from my closet. I asked her where we was going since I wasn’t going to school and she had told me the hospital. She said that something had happened to my dad.
