As a young teen now would you ever think about how the people before us felt or what they had to go through to get us to where we are now? Well over spring break I read a book call Part of My Soul Went with Him by Winnie Mandela. It shouldn't not be a banned book just because it teaches young students and adult reality about the past. It also shows that not everyone had such a easy life and some had to work really had and still had to fight through battles to get where they wanted. While reading there are various scenes of anger and being mad well there are other teams of being happy to see such a strong family get through rough times. Within the first couple of pages of me reading she stated “I had been hearing strange noises outside. But then it’s such a usual part of my life,that kind of thing. I’ve always known that I’m never alone wherever I am, so hearing footsteps outside was nothing new; I’ve lived like that with these people, I just thought the police were doing their usual rounds outside.” (Mandela 24) When you read that what’s the first thing that comes to you mind? Maybe it’s why are they doing that, or what did they do wrong right. Well no, in this books it shows a lot of people just doing whatever they want and not really caring about who they hurt or if they are causing harm to anyone else. Not only were they in dating someone else's personal space they were making it uncomfortable for that family to live there. Racism was a common problem back then but as we think of it now it's still somewhat of a problem.
