In the 1960s, leggings were first introduced to the retail market, therefore making them a part of the fashion industry. Modern day leggings are manufactured as a one-piece garment made out of new materials such as Lycra and Spandex. The stretchy nature of these contemporary fabrics made it possible for leggings to become tighter and tighter, making them more feminine attire instead of unisex. The primary reason for the increased manufacturing of leggings was driven by the consumer interest in working out and being active, especially in the 1980s. During the 1980s, there was a demand for fashionable and practical gym wear. Fitness wear was being designed for comfort and style during fitness and aerobics workouts. Leggings became a natural choice, fitting right into this fashion trend. Also, during this period, leggings were worn as pants with a loose t-shirt or a cropped top. This perpetuated the notation of wearing leggings as everyday casual wear. Their popularity perpetuated even into the 1990s. Leggings were now being worn with skirts, baggy t-shirts, and dresses becoming a part of a girl's everyday wardrobe. "In the mid-1990s, leggings were outselling jeans in the United States, which shows the extent of their popularity." ("The History of Leggings In Fashion"). After the mid-1990s leggings, sales started to decline in the fashion world but made a comeback …show more content…

This isn't the first time that LuLaRoe has upset people. As The Inquisitr shared recently a lot of people are upset that their LuLaRoe leggings have been ripping after just a couple of times of wearing them. For $25 a pair, they expect more out of them. Consultants were reported saying that you should take care of them like pantyhose and never put them in the dryer either. A lot of people feel like a pair of leggings should last longer than that, though.

On the women’s end, lululemon athletica is mainly known for their extremely comfortable yoga and workout leggings. Previously only focused on yogi’s, Lululemon is now focused on any one who sweats and is interested in athletic wear and the lifestyle it promotes. Lululemon also offers the same quality leggings to men and young females; one of Lululemon’s biggest market segmentation moments was when they opened their sister store Ivivva to market the same product to a younger female audience. However, they are still fixed on offering their products at a higher cost, meaning only customers who have money for discretionary products can purchase them; the high exclusiveness and quality has created a loyal fan base. The organization also continues to segment themselves as a leader in the health conscious market, promoting the better lifestyle with yoga ambassadors. With the rise of people being aware of their bodies, Lululemon fits perfectly into the new
Depending on who you ask, this fashion became popular in the early 1940’s. As we can see, history has a tendency to line things up for the “perfect storm.” This just so happen to be the time that thousands of service men, fresh out of boot camp arrived in Los Angeles looking to blow off steam before being deployed into combat around the world. To these service men, large baggy pants and jackets were a symbol of hate or disrespect to the
What ever happened to having your pants on your waist? It’s apparently now called a “fashion” to have them below your ass. Though sagging looks hideously ridiculous there is some history behind it I bet many of you do or don't know. For instance According to Greg Mathis, sagging was adopted in the United States prison systems where belts were sometimes prohibited to prevent prisoners from using them as a weapon or committing suicide by hanging themselves but that style was later popularized by hip hop artists such as snoop dogg and others in the 1990’s.
Flared trousers were popular with both men and women throughout the decade - ranging from a subtle flare to huge, flapping bell-bottoms. By the end of the 1970s, however, trouser legs had gradually straightened again.
These individuals come from educated and sophisticated backgrounds and socioeconomically fall within the middle to upper class. Lorna Jane Pty Ltd being one of the major players of the fitness and athletic clothing industry in Australia has a competitive edge among other companies as it constitutes a significant portion of the market share worth 10.5% in the industry (Magner, 2017). This was a result of continuous online marketing and garnering of extensive distribution channels and communication channels to expand nationwide and internationally (Traffika, n.d.). The brand has grown significantly over the years ever since it was founded in 1989, in fact it has successfully expanded to the Australia nationwide and United States (Horton, Ferrero-Regis and Payne, 2016). As it specializes in mainly women’s gym and yoga sportswear, the target audience of Lorna Jane is women in their 20s to 30s who aspire to live an active & healthy lifestyle. This is justified as target audiences in their 20s to 30s are very likely to have the ability to make a living so that they have disposable income to spend on fashionable purchases such as high quality active wears provided by Lorna Jane.
“For as long as men and women have been wearing clothing, there has been a hierarchy based on garments. The clearest example arose when the sexes were segregated into skirts and pants: women would only wear dresses (a symbol of submission) and men would only wear trousers (proof of domination). Women’s clothing was created to impede and hamper movement (through tight or many layered skirts), while men enjoyed the ease and comfort of pant legs.” (Meza, Echazarreta) Women’s fashion throughout the ages can be used to trace the history of equality between men and women. As women achieved greater independence, they claimed the right to choose what they wore, and that included women being able to wear pants. There are three things that were instrumental in making it socially acceptable for women to wear pants, they include: the invention of the bicycle, WWII, and influential women.

The great reception towards blue jeans is owing to their extremely sturdy and long lasting material. This is because the indigo warp was heavily sized with starch, and the denim fabrics were woven into a very tight structure. On the other hand, this made blu...
