Dr. Tagge, the lead surgeon, finally updated the family over two and a half hours later stating that Lewis did well even though he had to reposition the metal bar four times for correct placement (Kumar, 2008; Monk, 2002). Helen reported wondering if Dr. Tagge had realized how much Lewis’ chest depression had deepened since he last saw him a year ago in the office, especially considering he did not lay eyes on Lewis until he was under anesthesia the day of surgery (Kumar, 2008). In the recovery room, Lewis was conscious and alert with good vital signs, listing his pain as a three out of ten (Monk, 2002). Nurses and doctors in the recovery area charted that he had not produced any urine in his catheter despite intravenous hydration (Kumar, 2008; Monk, 2002). Epidural opioid analgesia was administered post-operatively for pain control, but was supplemented every six hours by intravenous Toradol (Ketorolac) (Kumar, 2008; Solidline Media,

He is told that Bane will allow him to heal and live in the pit, which is essentially a prison, as Bane destroys Gotham, so Bruce can see the extent of his defeat over television. This is Bruce’s lowest point in the story, but he is given a beacon of hope by some of the other inmates in the pit. He learns of a boy that once made the climb out of the pit by making a jump that to every other man has been impossible. This jump gives Bruce a purpose. He recovers from his injury and trains his body to make the jump. News reports of the situation in Gotham motivate Bruce to try to return to Gotham before Bane destroys his city. The jump provides an opportunity to make the metaphorical rebirth my tarot reading had alluded to. According to The Wild Wood Tarot, the Eight of Vessels represents an opportunity for “looking at the past, acknowledging [a hero’s] mistakes and learning from them, [to] grow and attain new wisdom”(137). This is exactly what Bruce does. During the time in the pit he stops doubting himself and improves his physique, so he is both mentally and physically prepared for the jump. When he is ready he makes he leap out of the pit and returns to Gotham to attempt to save his city from the nuclear explosive Bane is threatening to

Henry Lee had been a hero during the Revolutionary War and served as the governor of Virginia and a member of Congress. By the time Robert was born, his father’s fortune and estates were in shambles. Henry Lee was never very good at managing his estates and in 1809, was forced into prison due to the severity of his debts. Three years later, freed from jail, he was involved in a political brawl in Baltimore where he was beaten and disfigured for life. In an attempt to flee from debtors and reconsolidate his money, Henry Lee fled to Barbados. He died in 1818, never having seen his family again. Robert E. Like most heroes, Bruce’s thirst for justice was brought upon by a horrible act that that quickly brought upon his coming of age. Following a theatre performance with his parents Bruce, Thomas and his mother Martha found themselves walking down ‘Crime Alley’. There they were approached and mugged; in a valiant attempt to subdue their assailant Bruce witnessed both of his parents be brutally murdered at this hands of crime. As seen in some of the original comics it was at this time “Bruce Wayne learned the power of fear…” (Origins), this realization plays a vital role in the development of his alter ego Batman. With such a traumatic event unfolding before his eyes Bruce “swore an oath to rid the city of evil” (Origins), likely to prevent anyone from suffering the same kind of loss he did as a
