Who is the best basketball player in the world? The question is often debated, as everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Although, taking a closer look at the facts, there is one player that stands head and shoulders above the rest; His name is LeBron James. Many fans forget that James entered the NBA straight out of high school as an 18 year old kid. During his career he has racked up numerous individual accomplishments, but has not forgotten about his teammates. James teams have always risen above the competition, as he has taken many teams to places that they shouldn’t have gone. He is able to do this simply because he has the ability to make everyone around him better. James isn’t just a great basketball player, but he is also …show more content…
James is now in his 12th season in the NBA, and is considered to be a veteran. James has racked up an impressive resume during his tenure, as he has won the league MVP trophy four times (Gramling 48). To put that in perspective, James has more MVP awards than the likes of Larry Bird or Magic Johnson did in their entire careers, plus James’s career is not even close to being finished. As well as being a league MVP, James has also won two NBA championships and appeared in five NBA Finals, including the last four (Gramling 48). If James keeps up this pace, he will put himself in a very good position to keep contending for more titles. MVP awards and championships are very impressive, but many other players have accomplished those feats in the past. An accomplishment that James can solely claim is being the youngest player in NBA history to score 20,000 career points (“LeBron Raymone" 1). If James is able to stay healthy and keep up his scoring pace, he will certainly be close to passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most career points in NBA …show more content…
Every year, Sports Illustrated selects one athlete from any sport as their “Sportsman of the Year”. The Sportsman of the Year is often awarded to the most accomplished and well rounded athlete of the year (Badenhausen 37). In 2012, after winning league MVP, the NBA Championship, an Olympic gold medal, and helping with numerous charities, Sports Illustrated made James their Sportsman of the Year (Badenhausen 37). This was a huge honor for James, and will go down as one of the biggest accomplishments for his resume. As well as James does on the court, he is just as good off the court. James started a program named “I Pomise” (Jenkins). This program helps underprivileged children in the Akron area by giving them resources for school and giving them incentives to attend class (Jenkins). Students in the program must complete a camp for being able to join, but after that they are left in good hands. Close to 500 elementary kids are involved with the program (Jenkins). When the students miss class or don’t show up for school, they will receive a supportive message from James encouraging them to get back to school. Vice versa, if a child has great attendance, they will receive a congratulatory voicemail from James applauding there attendance (Jenkins). In addition to James’s I Promise campaign, he also holds an annual Bikeathon in Akron during the
Lebron James is a well known professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Lebron is often referred to as one of the greatest to ever pick up a basketball. Lebron makes money from playing basketball but a substantial amount of his income comes from sponsorships and endorsement deals with outside brands. This is where his social media plays a huge part of his life.
Jordan simply dominated the nineties and left the game as an NBA Finals winner in 1998. It was not until the year 2002 that the NBA was able to find someone to match Jordan’s dazzling acrobatic style of play. His name is Lebron James. Lebron, who plays shooting guard and small forward, stands at an athletic six-eight. James, however, never played in the NCAA.
Lebron James capitalizes on the importance of family throughout the article. He is announcing to the fans and “haters” that he will be returning to Cleveland. He is also incorporating the fact that he is apologizing for his actions in the past. He emphasizes the importance of family and relationships in order to capture the emotions of his audience. James uses rhetorical appeals, such as logic and reasoning, in "I'm coming home" to convey that he is sorry for his actions: however, he still makes it a point to justify his previous departure, while also keeping the importance of family and relationships relevant to his decisions
The lost children of Francoism were the children abducted from Republican parents, who either were in jail or had been assassinated by Francoist troops, during the Spanish Civil War and Francoist Spain. The number of abducted children expected to be up to 300,000. The children were kidnap victims of child trafficking and illegal adoption. The military organization led by Francisco Franco had an ideology with racist apparatuses. The soldiers who took part in the revolution considered themselves to be of a superior race the National Day in Francoist Spain was called Día de la Raza (Day of the Race). They believed that their superiority established them the right of defeat over other inferior races, which included the Republicans and all others who opposed the military revolution. The inventor of this ideology was the military psychiatrist Antonio Vallejo-Nájera who directed the Psychiatric Services of the Military (los Servicios Psiquiátricos del Ejército). Vallejo-Nájera trained in Germany, where he studied and greatly admired the Nazi ideology. His analysis of race, however, had more political, cultural, and psychological workings than ethnic ones, though it did maintain anti-semitic beliefs. Vallejo-Najerán's theories were compiled in his books, such as Eugenesia de la Hispanidad y regeneración de la raza (Eugenics of Hispanicity and the regeneration of race), where he redefined race as spirit. "Race is spirit, Spain is spirit, and Hispanicity is spirit. For this, we must immerse ourselves in Hispanicity to understand our racial principles and differentiate our race from others. It was assumed that racial inferiority could be modified at an early age. Therefore, infants were taken from th...
Specific Purpose: To persuade the audience that Michael Jordan even now in the present is still the greatest player ever to play in the NBA.
It’s one of the greatest debates right now in modern time sports. Who is the greatest basketball player ever? Is it His Airness, or is it King James? The debate on whether Michael Jordan or LeBron James is the greatest basketball player ever is a prevalent topic in sports news daily. Many people believe that LeBron James is the greatest basketball player to be currently playing and also the greatest player to ever have played in the NBA. My theory, however, is that rather than LeBron James, the greatest basketball player to ever have played the game is Michael Jordan. Although I agree with the claim that LeBron James is the best current player in the NBA, I believe that he is nowhere near being considered better than Michael Jordan.
Kobe spent years trying to mimic everything about Michael Jordan including his footwork, shooting form etc. and it definitely payed off . Kobe has the 3rd most points scored of all time and he is the all time Lakers points leader. However, Kobe’s success is his but his influence is not, it belongs to Michael Jordan as it was Kobe who mimicked Jordan. The points scored by Kobe have an often unseen angle, Kobe also has the missed the most shots ever (Nba.com)). LeBron, on the other hand, is currently the youngest player to reach 20,000 points even though Kobe has played 6 more seasons than LeBron has out-rebounded, out-assisted, out-stole and out-blocked Kobe Bryant (nba.com). While doing so LeBron changed what constitutes all 5 positions, for example before LeBron, the point guard was the smallest player on the court who can dribble, but after LeBron’s arrival where he has dominated every position with his 6’8 280 pound frame and his incredible basketball IQ, the point guard has become the composer of the symphony that is an offensive possession in a game of basketball"LeBron James." When I began my report I didn’t know much about Michael Jordan, but I did know that he was “undoubtedly the greatest player in the history of the NBA'; (“Michael Air Jordan'; 1). It seemed like every time I heard the word basketball I also heard the name Michael Jordan. There’s just no avoiding him. If you are watching television you might see him playing basketball or golf. If you were reading a magazine there will probably be an advertisement with his picture. If you were walking down the street you might see a kid wearing Air Jordan shoes or a Bulls jersey with “JORDAN'; on the back of it. This man is probably as recognizable as the Pope.
Due to the mark Michael Jordan has left on the world as the “G.O.A.T.”, it will be very difficult for any player to surpass his legacy. Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and LeBron James all have similarities of Michael Jordan but, out of all three players James is the closest. LeBron has the most similarities and the potential to surpass Michael Jordan’s legacy with his personality, stats and he popularity on and off the court. Even though James has the potential to surpass his legacy, there is still a very long journey ahead of James if he ever wants to be considered the “G.O.A.T.”.
First, we will celebrate LeBron James’s accomplishments in the NBA. There are over 400 players in the NBA. These players are on the battlefield, fighting day after day because they all know only one can become the Most Valuable Player. LeBron James rose above all, claiming the MVP award, not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 times. Not only is LeBron James an MVP, but he is also a 13-time All-Star player. LeBron James garnered enough votes from the fans, the players, and the media to become an All-Star like a presidential candidate getting enough votes from the voters to become the President.
Usain Bolt is known as the “fastest man alive.” Usain Bolt was just a normal Jamaican kid, but he wanted more. He pushed himself the be the very best. Now no competitor can even get close to accomplishments, determinations, sacrifice, and pure talent (“Usain Bolt”). He won nine gold medals as a predominant champion at the 2008, 2012, and the 2016 Summer Games. LeBron is one of the most popular basketball player known in the United States of America. Most people do not know Lebron James’s story. LeBron James basically grew up without a father. His father was arrested several times for drug problems. His mother struggled with finding a job and battled with money to provide for her family as a single mother. Going to bed hungry was not uncommon for LeBron James and his siblings. LeBron wanted to make a difference in his life and his families’ life (“LeBron James’s life story”). Our culture today classify the athletes as “insanity,” but each of these individuals were completely lively.
LEADERSHIP and POWER HN 347 PUBLIC PERSONAL ADMINISTRATION The market of professional basketball will never be the same. My case study will be on the all-around basketball player and one of my favorite players Kevin Durant. I am writing about Kevin Durant and his choice to leave the Oklahoma Thunders and team up with the Golden State Warriors.
Sports specialization among young people is when a child or teenager trains for and competes in only one sport. They work extremely hard year-round in order to become well-rounded in every aspect of the game. They make sacrifices and put their health in jeopardy in order to become the ultimate participant in their sport. One of the many young athletes who is only participating in and focusing on one sport is fifteen-year-old OJ Mayo from Cincinnati, Ohio. He is the young talented athlete who is predicted to be the next LeBron James in the National Basketball Association (NBA). This young athlete provides evidence of striving for perfection in this single sport when reviewing his daily schedule versus that of his siblings. He says, “The other kids go home and sleep. I come back to the gym” (Thompson, 2004). He is obviously putting forth a lot of effort in his sport to become successful at an early age.
Given his large platform as a NBA superstar, Jordan gave back to his community and most specifically children. Throughout the course of Michael Jordan’s outstanding career, he made a profound impact on the education of children. During Michael Jordan’s final basketball game as a member of the Washington Wizards, Jordan was given a plaque as a part of his ceremonial goodbye ceremony as a result of his large impact on the education of children by donating computers and money to many local schools. In addition to his large donations, Jordan also has led many campaigns to urge and motivate children to try their best and give their all in school. As a result of his donations and campaigns, Jordan has improved the educational conditions of the schools he has spoken and donated to and therefore changed the lives of those students. (Weeks)
Michael Jordan is considered, by many, to be the greatest basketball player of all-time. However many do not know who he is as a person, or what he has contributed to basketball. Michael Jordan may be the greatest basketball player of all-time, but he is much more than a basketball player. He has contributed to many different charities, he was a baseball player, and he is a golfer. He is a champion off the court just as much as he was on the court to many people who receive donations from him. Jordan was a champion on the basketball court, but he is still a champion in the hearts of many off the court.
