“Dream as you will live forever, live as you’ll die today” James Dean. I say it’s not the materialistic things you leave behind, it’s the impact you had on someone or the world that leaves a mark to care on your legacy. Do not just live life! Make a statement and have an impact on someone’s life.
What will your legacy say about you? There is no true way to know until the day comes we must leave this place. As Chittister (2008) stated, “But there is a big difference leaving a legacy and leaving a “legacy” (p. 215). In modern times leaving a legacy means leaving something of materialistic value. What happens when those materialistic value become exhausted, break or even get worn down or out? Will these actions speak and justify who you are?
Are the immaterial things left behind the true everlasting enrichment to leaving a legacy? “Our legacy is far more than our fiscal worth. Our legacy does not end the day we die” (Chittister, 2008, p. 217). I find it interesting that in today’s society we look for some type of legal documentation to help our loved ones’ judge who we are by what we have left behind. To me it’s the meaningful and thoughtfulness that judges you. The impact that you made that will speak on your behalf for years to come is the true legacy.

We all have the road to be successful. Some have the road paved already while some have to create a new route. The issues Chittister stated were not money, jobs, prestige, status, superiority and arrogance are the issues most of us see. However, the real issues we over look are the ones we take for granted in everyday life. As simple as giving back to others. Using the Golden Rule. That is the legacy we need to leave behind. That is what we need to be remember by. What we did and how we did it or handle the situation this the true testament of our

It is up to the people whether they want to be models who endeavor for more or disgraces that fail to try. In “A Model of Christian Charity” by John Winthrop and “Art of Virtue” by Benjamin Franklin, both authors acknowledge human flaws, but more importantly they also acknowledge the capability to strive for good for themselves or for
To read a story that deals with this theme makes us realize that it is not everyone that can accomplish what they really want in their
The first is opportunity. He stated that “opportunity looks a lot like hard work.” This encouraged everyone watching to work hard and not be discouraged when they don’t get the job they wanted, but instead use that job as a stepping stone to the next one. The second point he focused on was knowledge. Nothing is more powerful and attractive than “being smart, thoughtful, and generous.” The third point he made is to build a life, not to live a life. This empowered everyone to take their life in their own hands and make it what they wanted. Kutcher states that, “Everything around us that we call life is made up of people that are no smarter than you.” Overall he encourages everyone to work hard, be smart, and build a
One thing that is unfortunate about departing this life is the lost vivacity that a person works to expand since the day they were born.
Do not try to cultivate a garden with excessive surplus in order to barter for unnecessary goods or to store up for the future. "Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity," Thoreau orders (173). Voltaire would agree that this is the essential key to living well. After traveling around the world and questioning every sort of person, Candide finally finds peace after seeing the simple life of the Turk on his modest farm with his children. "That good old man seems to have made himself a much better life than the six kings we had the honor of eating supper with," Candide remarks (119). At the end of his quest, Candide finally realizes that power, prestige, and all the other things most people seek indeed are not the answer to happiness. Thoreau wholeheartedly supports t...
to be remembered in a good way by being a hero or just by being good.
In the first part of this book, Carnegie describes one of the most useful strategies, “Don’t criticize, condemn or complain.” “Don’t criticize them; they are just what we would have be under similar circumstances,” as President Abraham Lincoln said to Ms. Lincoln and others when they spoke horrors of the southern citizens after General Meade refused to attack in the Battle of Gettysburg. Even when Lincoln was enraged because General Meade denied to attack, he reserved his comments. Instead he wrote a letter addressed to the general but, never mailed it. Like F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote in the novel, The Great Gatsby, “Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone… just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you've had.” It is important not to complain because what one person has, another may desire. There are people that complain because they did not get the latest trending phone, while a young kid in Mexico is thrilled for finding a can that he can imagine is a soccer ball. Good or bad, people should be pleased with what they have and make the best of it
We are remembered for whether or not we inspired in others a love for life and an openness to all of those who lived it with us. We will be remembered for our smiles and for our frowns, for our laughter and for our complaints, for our kindness and for our selfishness” (216). When it is all said and done, the legacy that will be remembered, the important legacy, is not the material things we amassed, rather, it is our value system that we leave behind. This is so true. This feeling aligns with one of my favorite adages: One’s character is who you are when no one is
"What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us; what we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal." - Albert Pike
Leaving a legacy is something everybody should strive to do, but nobody who is content with living an average life will ever do so. That’s why in order to be remembered, you must do the things nobody has ever done before. A great man once said “If you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead or rotten, either write something worth reading or do things worth the writing.”(Benjamin Franklin). The average person wouldn’t find this quote as meaningful as the protagonists in the novels Beowulf, The Time Machine, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, and 1984 would. They realize what it takes to leave a legacy because not only are they Self-Efficant, they are intrinsically motivated as well.
“Who lives, who dies, who tells your story?” a quote from Lin Manuel Miranda’s new musical, Hamilton. This quote will continue to be a testament of my work ethic throughout my lifetime, as I work towards my future. The most important thing we can do on this planet is to leave a legacy, something that is worth remembering, whether it may be countless awards, stunning revelations, impactful inventions, or a caring and righteous family to carry on your name.
Today´s society is filled with people that only care about money and a person's profession when it comes to valuing an individual's life. Many people think that having a lot of money, college degrees, and working for a top notch business or company defines who they are, but what about the people who may not be successful in the world's view, but are happy because they are doing what they love to do ? Steve Jobs gave a commencement speech at Stanford University, in 2005, advising the graduates to follow their passions and not to listen to other people's advice about what is valuable or not. He also advised them not to waste their time living someone else’s life. Steve Jobs advocates for individuals to have the bravery to follow your
Many individuals have different aspects as to how life should be valued. Some individuals live life a day at a time while attempting to make the most as if their last breath was upcoming. In a Stanford Commencement in 2005, Apple CEO Steve Jobs quo...
