The second point he focused on was knowledge. Nothing is more powerful and attractive than “being smart, thoughtful, and generous.” The third point he made is to build a life, not to live a life. This empowered everyone to take their life in their own hands and make it what they wanted. “There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs,” was said by motivational speaker and American author Zig Ziglar. This relates to Carol S. Dweck’s article “Brainology” and Sherman Alexie’s essay “Superman and Me.” Ziglar, Dweck, and Alexie all feel that it isn’t easy for someone to become successful. It takes hard work, perseverance, and the want to learn and grow. In Dweck’s article, she stated that someone with a growth mindset would become more successful and knowledgeable than someone with a fixed mindset, which was demonstrated by Alexie in his essay, and by a personal experience of my own.

He had created a monster. He started off with a class to help citizens in that lived in poverty a new start and for ones who didn’t make it a chance to get a higher education. Marsh didn’t think the project would solve the world’s problems. The class of graduates made it the entire year was just a small portion of adults in the poverty area that took the step to get chance to get a higher education. Most had no set plans on what they would do with this education. Most people had the same thinking as the cameraman that if they people living below the poverty level received education poverty would go away. Marsh felt that he failed and got students hopes up. One does not blame the camera man for thinking that education could fix the world’s problems especially because the problem is poverty and inequality. The cameraman and his wife did have good faith and reason to think that education was a cure. Just a couple of months before graduation day President George W. Bush surprised journalist and other listeners by speaking of the growing economic inequality in the United States. ‘The fact that inequality is real,’ Bush told an audience of Wall Street Executives. ‘It’s been rising for more than twenty five years.’ The problem in our economy is that it is increasingly rewarding education and skills because of education. The Washington Post noted in the coverage of the speech ‘Bush’s remarks were an unremarkable statement of what many
Born the son of a sharecropper, John Lewis saw segregation first hand while attending segregated public schools. While growing up in Pike County, Alabama, he was inspired by Civil Rights activists like Martin Luther King Jr. ultimately influencing him to join the Civil Rights Movement. As a young man he began to volunteer for Freedom Rides which was a movement by Civil Rights activists who protested segregation at interstate bus terminals. Lewis was one of the few individuals to launch the Freedom rides. Here, Lewis was beaten severely by angry mobs for sitting in seats saved for white riders. In this quote from John Lewis, he shares his fears in sacrificing his life for his work; “I thought I was going to die a few times.
On November 2, 2004, President George W. Bush was nominated and elected for his second and final term of presidency. Throughout the course of his term, a vast amount of controversy revolved around the actions of President Bush. Some of the main matters that were significant during his first presidency were the issues of abortion, pro-choice versus pro-life, and AIDS, which led to a fluctuation in his popularity with the masses. However, even with these issues, the unforgettable tragedy of September 11, 2001, and the start of the Iraq War, Bush was reelected to President of the United States despite everything he had going against him.

In the article Martin Luther King Jr purpose of education is to make men's reach their life goals he also believes that purpose of education is to “teach one to think intensively and to think critically” because a man who has been gifted with wisdom but has no way to distinguish right from wrong it's a threat to society. It can be a threat to society because with a good amount of knowledge he or she can create different things to harm the society it can also involve strategies. He also states that many have to start thinking outside the box what I think he means is to not only be more careful with the things you do but to also be careful with the things you have say to others for any reasons because being educated is not a way of being respect
In conclusion, when people choose to start paying more attention, they will be able to make choices that will improve the quality their lives and the life’s of others around them. Having awareness and not just becoming frustrated with people can help a person think about the lives of others. I found Wallace’s speech to be relatable to not only me, but also to others because it is a lesson that society can benefit from. Paying attention to the obvious can help a person realize all of the amazing opportunities that are being portrayed right in front of them. We all just “have to just keep reminding ourselves over and over: ‘This is water, this is water’” (Wallace 209).
Steve Jobs is trying to say that you should live every day like it is your last. He knew his life had value to him and his family. He felt like life was worth living even though once in a while a hard choice would come along to toughen his life. Making a choice is very hard, but when making a choice it should be one that you will not regret later in life. Making choices is one of the hardest things in life so you must see all the good and all the bad to the outcome of your options. Live everyday like it is your last. Ebert says that life is a very precious thing. Hamlet wants to die, but him not knowing what is on the other side scares so he decides to live. Even though Ebert had to get surgery, he got through it and learned to still live his life with no regrets.
Although the presentation, of information, might have been a bit fast paced for the likes of some, the arguments that Ken Robinson presents in his speech were effectively communicated, as they have both logical and emotional appeals. Ken’s portrayal of an outdated system, that is almost reliant on medication in order to be effective, was logically sound, as it is necessary to raise not only the standard of education, but the means through which our children are educated as well. Ken appealed to me emotionally in numerous areas, but the one that hit hardest, was when he mentioned that a college degree no longer guaranteed a job, it 's a scary thought that even though I have a college degree, there is still a chance that I may still end up working

In 2005, Steve Jobs’ gave a commencement speech to the University of Stanford. His speech is a very motivational and inspiring to everyone that has listened to it. The purpose of this essay is to critically engage with the late Leonardo Dicaprio’s speech at United Nations. Persuasion was seen as a necessary skill for leadership and democracy, where the speakers can produce logical arguments to persuade his audie support or oppose a particular point of view (Fawkes, 2006). The persuasive copy’s main premise was to call on individuals, industries and governments concerned at climate change and call for action from the leaders of the world to put a stop to climate change.
