"The ego constantly competes with the spirit for control over your inner voice." Egos are part of one's self and they are present every day. Choosing to let that ego empower us is sometimes a dangerous thing. Our egos are capable of anything leaving others in total despair, but having self-control can prevent our egos from getting out of hand. All it takes is one decision one split second. According to "Detective Stalked Slaying Victim, Father Says" by Andrew Blankstein Joel Rubin a high-ranking LAPD officer Stephanie Lazarus was being charged with the murder of Sherri Rasmussen, committed 23 years ago, a crime of passion over Sherri's husband, John Ruetten. Despite the tragedy in this case we can learn that having self-control secures ones ego will not get the best of them. Lazarus was in a previous relationship with Ruetten, but they went their own ways in 1985, and shortly after Ruetten met Rasmussen and it was love at first sight so he quickly proposed. Lazarus heard about the news and her emotions went through the roof. She had begun stalking Rasmussen and her ego quickly escalated. Lazarus frantically called Ruetten and met at her apartment, nevertheless the conversation lead to sex after he could calm her down. As Blankstein and Rubin write "...the young female officer had shown up in uniform at the hospital where she worked and issued a chilling warning about her husband, ' If I can't have John, nobody can.' ". Lazarus' emotions were out of control and her ego was out to seek vengeance for the man she loved. Her mindset was to get Ruetten back so he would not marry Rasmussen, but the way she carried out her plan lacked judgment. Her ego was too big at the time to realize she had lost Ruetten and should move on with her …show more content…
In life or death situations like this, having self control keeps one's ego from potentially hurting a human being, or it can lead to a lifetime of regret. Although Lazarus could not control herself and keep her ego from getting the best of her it all lead back to Ruetten and his ego. As we know he previously dated Lazarus, but he told detectives she was only an acquaintance and in court she was just a friend. As Blankstein and Rubin write "although they took together, went on dates a few times each month and had sex many times, Ruetten said he did not consider Lazarus his girlfriend and was dating other people at the time." Ruetten's ego showed through after he denied having a relationship that anyone could clearly see they had. His ego was self centered and he lead women to believe they were something more when in reality he only used whomever he could for pleasure. He had no self control, self respect, or respect for others in fact he agreed to have sex with Lazarus while engaged to

got herself into a situation that she could not escape. Arnold Friend is a prime example of the
jealousy, and she was willing to do anything to get John back to her own self.
As long as you are alive and your mind functions in and through the body, ego will arise and exist. This ego or pride is not permanent and unquestionable reality. It is a temporary experience; it is only lack of knowledge that invests it with permanency. It is a concept; it is lack of knowledge that elevates it to status of reality. Only enlightenment can bring this wisdom.
For example, my struggle for the power of my id, ego, and superego is leaving cups and plates in my room. My mother does not like when I leave any plates or cups in my room, so every time I eat food in my room, I try to fight the instinct to just set the plate down and laying down in bed. I feel awful doing this because I know my mom does not like when I just place the cups and plates down,so I try to fight this habit of mine, then my mom will walk into my room, see the diningware, and get very upset. I try my hardest not upset my mom because she has a tough enough time with everything else going on in her life, I know that will upset her more. Just like in Lord of the Flies, the id,ego, and superego plays a huge part, just like it does in life.
Clearly, infatuation has clouded Helena?s ability to think clearly, and she sees things in her own idealistic way.
...onscious self is obsessed with an evil, the conscious must overcome it or a paradox will result in which both selves parish.
The essay, “Walk to Morning”, by Joseph Boyden details the failed suicide of the author. If one was to describe said story with a single word, no word would do better than the word decision. What is evident to the reader in the beginning of the story is how the author was mistreated the night of his attempted suicide, claiming she “was, saying nonsensical things and being mean to me”. At any time during this sudden change of attitude, the author could of made a decision to inquire about the cause of this sudden hostility. If this action was taken, perhaps his girlfriend would of at least explained the causes of why she wanted to break up with him or at least give him some meager sort of comfort following the break up.
We created our ego self in our attempt to protect ourselves from the losses we fear loss of self, loss of other, loss of security, loss of face. As children, when we didn’t get the love we needed, we decided that our true Self must be unlovable. In our attempt to feel safe, we buried our true Self and created the false self the ego, our wounded self. The ego self then went about learning how to feel safe through trying to control others and outcomes. The ego believes that having control over how people see us and feel about us, as well as over the outcome of things, will give us the safety we
True-self does not have a drive, or intention. In its whole, it is sense of integrity, or a connected wholeness to a person. A false sense of self can be explained as an ego—driven by wants and desires. A person’s ego can be defined as the identity center that runs our lives in the here and now. When a person has internal issues, the ego affects the way he or she may conduct themselves in a certain matter.
The ego determines which desires of the id should be satisfied at the right time. The ego abides by the reality principle (Coon and Mitterer, 2013). The ego uses defence mechanisms such as repression to subdue urges of libido from id which causes anxiety and depression (Weber,...
Therefore, oneself simply cannot be selfish if they do not have any control on their emotions
Ego identity is said to be one of the many things Erickson has focused on. He believed that through social interaction we gain mindful sense of ourselves, which can be commonly referred to as Ego identity. Although, Freud referred to the ego as the match over the necessities of the identity and superego, Erickson saw the ego as our way of our self-esteem. The way Erickson describes ego is the way we commonly use it in conversation. The main i...
Internal ego states can occur together with external ego states and can be spotted when the behavioural aspects of communication, seem intuitively out of line with what we feel is happening for example; a "nurturing parent" can have a positive side by being caring or they can have a negative side, by smothering a person with too much concern, or they may deny people the opportunity to develop their own skills.
