roctor: Today, we welcome the top three candidates for President of the United States of America. Lao Tzu is a part of the Independent Party and the National Tao Convention. He asserts that he is neither conservative nor liberal, rather falls in between. He believes in the proper balance of power and impotence. Next, the candidate for the extreme right wing will be Odysseus. Odysseus is a firm believer in war, power, and selfishness. He holds his titles dear to his heart and wants the people to vote for him because he is Odysseus, King of Ithaca, Son of Laertes. Lastly, the moderate Left wing candidate is Governor Batau. The American people have long awaited change. What can you offer to the American people to ensure change for the country?
Lao Tzu: I will ensure that the people know that I need them to sustain. I will be a leader who is full of humility, as “humility is the root from which greatness springs” (Tzu 59). I am dependent on the people whom I rule. I am sovereign to them. I am the worthless one. I will not take expensive vacations using the people’s money. I will not wear designer clothes at the people’s expense. I would rather take care of the people. I do not want to be an expensive leader at the expense of my people because “[it] is not wise to shine like a jade and resound like stone chimes” (Tzu 60).
King Odysseus: Unfortunately, it seems that Lao Tzu missed the point of being a leader. It is more than obvious that the American people need a leader to force them to do things that are not beneficial to their well-being. I will ensure change for the American people in many ways. Not only will I increase taxes and wipe out the middle class, but, I will also use that same money to wage war of terror. By terror, I mean any place that has brown, or non-Christian people. It seems that many of the previous Presidents have only cared about themselves. I offer work to everyone. I will work for the people. Many who I have worked for and over have admired all that I have done. One woman, for example, said to me, “You are indeed very strong. I have admired your strength for some time” (A Tale 1). Although she is no longer alive, I am sure that she would continue to agree that I am what the country needs. I neither complain nor boast. I try to be as pure as possible.
