In 1997, Albright gave a commencement speech in the graduating class of Mount Holyoke college, a women's college in Massachusetts. Albright uses examples, ethos (values), strong emotions, and a historic lens to convey the importance and growth women have in society. How their achievements have been challenged but still managed to get through them and recognize the courage and perseverance. Albright uses examples of women taking action in their countries such as Guatemala, Sarajevo, Burundi, and Burma. She begins by describing their actions that include “Keep alive the hope for democracy in her country, strive to ensure new peace endures., justice and an end to discrimination and abuse, taking lead in efforts to avoid the fate of neighboring Rwanda”. …show more content…

Albright brings up faith and values to recognize how far women have come to get an important position where their voices and opinions will get heard. She is letting the graduating class know the importance of attitude towards work. Apart from this, Albright uses a historic lens to show the advocacy of women to improve the government. Some of the actions they are taking are, “building a growing world economy, pursuing a broader prosperity, and renewing commitment” She uses a historical lens to demonstrate how women are making the world a better place by their perseverance and pushing through the obstacles. Finally, Albright uses strong emotions to motivate and recognize the potential that women and the graduating class have for the future. She claims “No matter how impotent you may sometimes feel, have courage still and persevere” She is inspiring and motivating them to get through the obstacles because their actions will impact society sooner or
