Lane Cove West was once primarily an agricultural land area. Today, it is a residential, parkland, bushland, commercial, and industrial suburb of Sydney. Blackman Park is the largest park in Lane Cove West and is situated on the Lane Cove River. Tennis is a big sport here, so Blackman Park features tennis courts, a practice wall, and a tennis clubhouse for players. The park is also designed to accommodate cricket and basketball play as well as a bike track, skate park and ample bushwalking tracks. Other community playgrounds, shops, cafes, and services are easily accessible and within walking distance of Lane Cove West.

This park makes you feel like you're frolicking on the countryside, but you're really very close to Sydney and the CBD. Blackman Park is a large park that sits off Wood Street in Lane Cove West and consists of picnic areas, sporting grounds, huge flat open spaces, and river foreshore bushwalks. Parking for up to 80 cars is part of the popularity of this parkland and playground. You will find a picnic area and barbeque facilities. Blackman Park and Playground offers toilet facilities, change rooms, and is home to the Lane Cove West Tennis Club, where the members practice their skills. The park also has a basketball court with practice hoop and a skateboard ramp all for public use. There is a leash-free dog exercise area, but be aware of the park rules.
• Turrumbarra Park is a small playground located on Centennial Avenue. This park is not well known and features a steamroller to play on and plenty of privacy because of its location. It's mostly open, but it is fenced near the roadways.
• Charlish Park is another lesser known playground and park within the Lane Cove West community. It offers a large oval suitable for sports and joggers. There is a climbing wall, roll hill, flying cox, slippery dip, and seating and tables. Kids love this small park.
