Educating the youth of today in preserving the outdoors is an investment with a return for the next 50-70 years! As a youth my goal was to teach others about the need for wildlife and undeveloped areas to preserve them for future generations. Including in this goal is the activities of the outdoors and how to safely enjoy them. These activities not only include hunting and fishing, but also photography, hiking and geo-caching. To teach these skills to others, I had to first learn and develop them myself. I completed this by attending outdoor educational classes at local state parks, hunter safety class, reading books, camping and hiking, completing my Eagle Scout Project, attending the North Texas Buckskin Brigades, participating in the fishing and rifle 4-H projects, …show more content…
I continued this commitment for over a year gaining valuable knowledge that I shared with my community. During this time, I was privileged to speak with tour groups and classes that attended the facilities and encouraged them in their educational pursuits. At the North Texas Buckskin Brigades, I earn a camper spot and spent and intense 18-20 hours a day studying everything there is to know about deer management and habitat. This camp was a week long, and I came away with an amazing presentation to share with the youth back home. Gaining this knowledge in various experiences, I dedicated myself to pass this on to my peers and community. I spoke at several functions about the importance of land management and its effects on wildlife and aquatics habitats. I was youth staff over 3 years at YES Camps, a districtwide (22 counties) camp, and one Junior Leadership Camp, a Texas statewide camp, where outdoor education and safety was taught to youth age 8-14. I wrote letters to my state representatives and spoke with my county commissioners for the last 5 years on the benefits of 4-H and the education it allows. My county hosts an annual wildlife educational exposition for the 5th graders
I also walked with the Purplestride.org fund raising to end Cancer. I volunteered my free time cooking and feeding the homeless around San Diego with friends and classmates while attending San Diego Continuous Education Program. After completing my nursing degree, I am looking forward to the opportunity to reach out to the multitude in the underserved community.
We are so fortunate to live in California and have access to so many of the properties operated by the National Park Service. There are thirteen national parks in California and I have been to seven of them. Enjoying the outdoors is something that is innate to our family. Even before our children could walk they were enjoying hikes through Yosemite in backpacks. This is an amazing fact that I learned from the map given to me in Sequoia National Park; “The only place Giant Sequoias grow now is on the west slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. The 75 distinct groves are found within a narrow band about 260 miles long and 15 miles wide, at its widest point.” (Sequoia National Park, 2012). Without the National Park Service protecting and maintaining parks like Sequoia National Park, there may not be any place like this for my children to learn about this beautiful country that we live
For eight months I have been volunteering on weekends at Horse Sense Wirral, a horse rescue sanctuary, where aside from routine stable work I have been involved in the rehabilitation and treatment of sick and abused horses. This has taken a certain level of personal strength, but has helped me to become all the more determined to dedicate my life to alleviating animal suffering. I have also spent two weeks working at two different kennels and
I believe that geography is a significant subject in the primary national curriculum because it supports children to develop an understanding of the places in the world and the diverse range of people who live in it. For me, this is an important aspect to learning because it enables children to be globally aware. According to the DFES (Great Britain. Department for Education and Skills, 2005a) education plays a vital role in helping children to recognise their contribution and responsibilities as citizens of the global community and equips them with skills to make informed decisions and take responsible actions. In a recent geography seminar, I collaboratively planned a lesson for KS2, involving children taking a visit to Seaton, a local beach in Cornwall to compare and contrast the area through photographs after recent storm damage. The Royal Geographical Society (2014) suggests through the use of enquiry-based fieldwork, children can gain first hand experiences of physical processes. Having planned this activity I now realise that the use of first hand experiences will support children to develop attitudes and opinions. This is important because in my future geography teaching I can challenge children by using t...
Wilderness is a highly idealized concept in today’s society – we simply put it on a pedestal and choose to admire it as we see fit. Nature and wilderness are considered distant and remote concepts, separate from our everyday, civilized lives. By approaching the natural realm in this sense, we simply detach ourselves from our origin, which leaves us to fantasize about the great outdoors as an escape from the artificial creations of our everyday life. This desire to escape our artificial lives has lead to the construction of locations such as national parks, which merely appear to be the natural world, yet in reality they are simply just facets of the modernized world we have created.
Being in a school that brought students from various counties and cities with different backgrounds, beliefs, and perspectives, opened my eyes to seeing just how diverse humanity is. In a time when everyone is struggling with personal problems, I know how monumental a simple volunteer act can be. One of my favorite acts of service is tutoring. I tutored an elementary-aged girl for two years in Fort Lee and I will always remember those two years as the most fulfilling. Education is so precious, and children are the most open to it.
For the last few years, I’ve been involved in Boy Scouts of America. Boy Scouts is very important to me, and has been a huge influence for good on me. Scouting teaches its participance various skills, values, and morals. Some of the knowledge I’ve gained is mostly only useful while camping, but most if it is very use full in everyday life.
(1) Hunters will keep passing on their knowledge of hunting and the environment to their kids and anyone else that would like to learn about this. The ecosystem is very important to keeping our world in good health.
Lost Child in The Woods Rhetorical Analysis Essay. The passage “Lost Child in the Woods” by Richard Louv in 2008 uses imagery of the present between the natural world and the people in the past, generalization of what we do now, and speculation about the future to drive the argument of the recurring issue of separation between people and nature, to ultimately drive this message between parents, teachers, and communities, in general, to reconnect children's experience with the outdoors. Richard Louv uses imagery to explain that our true experience of nature landscape, “often occurs within an automobile.” With this just the start of our disconnection from nature, the visual connection is optional for some people.
I enjoyed this experience so much, that I decided to go back to volunteer for Change Point, and will be going there once a week. This experience had the impact it did because I got to connect with the community in which change Point serves and help assist others. By doing this, I gained hands-on experience in which will help me in my future career. I also was able to enhance my skills in being a leader and in communication. The parenting classes that I taught to others not only helped them but also helped me.
To experience outdoor activities Ø To have fun Other benefits of outdoor education are your own personal development by learning new skills and to be able to manage various tasks out of the normal work place or environment. Outdoor education offers a sense of achievement and can also help with social behavioural problems and corporate development. My next part of this assignment is that I am going to describe and explain the goals and principles for three different outdoor education providers. The three providers I have chosen are as followed. Ø Plas Menai Ø Bishops Forum Ø PGL I am firstly going to tell you about Plas Menai.
Daylilies that brighten your day; hydrangeas that inform you of fall’s arrival; rosemaries that fill the air with the most wonderful aroma. These stunning flowers filled the garden I created during the summer of seventh grade, and my life became full of purpose and value. Not only was I propelled into the beautiful world of plants, but gardening helped me to overcome the adversities I was facing in regards to my mental health and self-image. I am sharing my experiences with horticulture with the Admissions Committee at Geisel School of Medicine because this hobby has taught me important aspects about myself and my relationships with those around me, helped me to understand what it means to have passion and love what you do, and provided me with a new perspective of medicine. I believe this contributes to making me a
Two years ago, I was writing my letter of intent for my application to the Master of Public Administration (MPA) with a concentration in Healthcare Administration revealing my failures, and most significantly, that I lost my passion and didn’t know where to start. I also conceded that I was relatively unaware of the field of Public Administration (PA). Little did I know, examining PA theories would enable me to connect the final dots in the big picture of my life, where I came from, who I’d come to be, what choices I’d made, the relationships I nurtured, and my dreams and desires for the future. Although confidence came slowly and awkwardly, I discovered my desire to contribute to the advancement of public health policies. I am writing to express my interest in continuing to the Doctoral program in the School of Public Administration at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). I am absolutely interested in the commitment to the advancement of knowledge, and confident my experience in higher education and academic research will contribute to my successful completion of the Ph.D. program, in the specialization area of public policy.
Outdoor learning activities are beneficial for students’ health, including psychological, physiological. Outdoor learning activities offer students opportunities to move their
Also, when I was a counselor at the Ecotarium in Worcester Massachusetts, my fellow counselors and I tried to show the campers why preserving the environment is so important. We did this by showing them that the vast majority of our resources, including medicine, wood for houses, and food, come from nature. We showed them how fragile many animals are to changes in the environment. Part of Ecotarium is dedicated to rehabilitating and caring for animals that have been injured in the wild. The campers enjoyed working with the animals and began to realize that many of the causes for the displacement of these animals stemmed from the loss of their habitat due to human intrusion. I feel that incorporating the importance of environmental preservation at a young age is crucial because it well help to establish environmentally-friendly habits.
