This semester my organization has suffered a major setback to the principle objective we were seeking to achieve this semester which was to establish ourselves as the first Lambda Upsilon Lambda(LUL) Fraternity on campus. We had an individual retract himself from the commitment he made to the Fraternity and decide he did not want to move forward with the process. Since there is an 8-person requirement policy at UNCC to establish a Fraternity we were not able to move forward with the process this semester. Not being able to become an established fraternity this semester impacted all of us in different ways, there are 3 individuals who will graduate next year and one who will graduate in December. Having to push back our principle objective for …show more content…
All the brothers who have assisted us throughout these past months all possess great qualities and are all leaders, but none of them have the power that Ronald exhibits. Ronald has does not solemnly hold one source of power, he has many sources of power that he uses effectively. He has Legitimate power, everyone looks up to him as the leader even though everyone is equal in the LUL Fraternity. Everyone sees him as a leader because of the responsibilities he is accountable for and because of his position in the Fraternity. He has expert power because of his knowledge, the skills he has developed, his trustworthiness, and the respect he gives everyone. Ronald also holds informational power and reference power. When any of us 7 have any questions, or concerns the first person we enquire those questions and concerns to is Ronald, we simply feel that no one can give us a clearer answer than Ronald can. Everyone also wants to be accepted and liked by Ronald which drives us to work more diligently with the tasks we are assigned by the fraternity. Ronald uses his powers positively, I am not sure he is even aware of the powers he possesses. He is such an outstanding individual who is always looking for the best interest in the Fraternity. Knowing we have his unconditional support is such an honor for us because we know we earned that support with our hard
At a young age I knew as an African American woman through activism, educational autonomy, and community service, I can thrive through the wake of extreme poverty and turmoil faced by the people of my neighborhood of East New York. My interest in Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. The ladies of this organization exude exemplary character who excel in sisterhood, respect, honesty, accountability, and integrity. Throughout my life I always encouraged myself to have these ideal characteristics without knowing that one day I would be pursuing membership in a prestigious organization, whom upheld the key principles “greater service, greater progress. The first
I am seeking membership in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated to be a part of a sisterhood that leads and serves. I would love to join a sisterhood that serves the community, promotes academic achievement and builds self-esteem in students of all walks of life from primary to adulthood. In addition, I wish to expand my public service through educational development. As an educator, serving children and families through toy drives and youth mentorships would afford me countless opportunities to give back beyond the walls of my classroom, dance stage, and church. With my dedication, compassion, and creativity, I know I will work diligently to produce a strong impact on the sorority’s current programs and aid to create new
Describe the X-Team principle of Extreme Execution. Discuss how to create a safe culture for extreme execution. Describe the tools that can facilitate Extreme Execution.
Day in and day out we hear about high school and college students wanting to pursue a sorority and/or a fraternity based on the stereotypes these organizations uphold, well I chose to differ. I told myself if I ever decided to become a member of a sorority it would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated consists of ladies of distinction and exemplary character who excel in scholarship, leadership, and service, which are qualities I have chosen to uphold. From my perspective, I encourage myself to maintain a respectable appearance and reputation which doing so inspires me to embrace my self-concept; which helps me confidently excel academically and professionally as a “lady of distinction” and “exemplary character.” Most importantly, I continuously remain involved in community service, being involved allows me the opportunity to learn and understand the lives and circumstances of others by opening my mind, heart, and soul. Overall these qualities strengthen my passion to be a member of the prestigious Alp...
To me the purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is to promote sisterhood and unity, serve the community, and build lifelong bonds. Therefore, I am seeking membership in order to be a part of a sisterhood that
The mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, promote unity and genuine friendships among college women, aid in issues concerning girls and women in order to come up with solutions to eliminate or ease the circumstances they may face, maintain an ongoing interest in college life, while also being of service to all mankind. This sorority has not only empowered women to help others, but it
Greek organizations are debatably the most undervalued and misconceived aspect of college campuses. Most people don’t see the benefits that fraternities and sororities bring to college campuses and their communities. Some see these organizations as large beneficial clubs and others see them as potential problems. Many of the allegations put forth by individuals that discredit the benefits and good deeds done by Greek organizations are weak justifications for their removal from college campuses. Greek organizations provide campus communities with academically responsible students, philanthropic activities and increase community involvement.

The purpose of this letter is to inform you about my interest in becoming a member of The Kappa Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I sought out membership because the members exemplify the epitome of class, grace, and standards. My desire is to inspire young girls and women and make a significant impact on their lives is just one of many reasons I aspire to join your great sorority. I believe in being of service, giving back to the community, and I want to continue on for years to come. Going into the transition into my college career from my freshman year until now, I have encountered many women in the organization that are very active on campus as well as in the community. My past experiences with my past and previous organizations have proved that once my feet are planted my roots will grow and I will stand firm in an organization or committee that I am apart of exemplifying my leadership skills. I am a dedicated member of the National Council of Negro Women. I am on the Bethune Committee, we focus on creating Health programs for the organization and the community. I am a Mentor with the Valdosta community organization G.O.L.F.E.R. (Generating Opportunities in Life for Each
There are many advantages of joining an NAU organization as I have learned through Sigma Nu. There are many complicated issues and opportunities presented to people everyday. Some are more severe than others, but they all come down to a sense of commitment and desire. Just recently, I had the honor of dealing with headaches and alternating views as I was introduced to Greek Fraternal Life. I had looked into Fraternities in the past, but never pursued any group due to uncertainty. Because I was ignorant about the Greek system prior to attending N.A.U., my curiosity, first semester, allowed me to get a better understanding of it. With more knowledge and comprehension I decided to further look into becoming a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity.
I felt that the Student Leadership Council was an organization that I would be proud to be associated with. I unde...
Because of this violation, the organization will be issued a cease and desist that will refrain them from participating in all intake activities. Using Developmental Ecology Theory I will allow John Seidelman to provide educational training to the members of the fraternity. This will allow the members to gain an understanding of their actions and create a dialogue that develops acceptance, respect, and tolerance for all individuals. In addition, I would work with Executive Director for the organization to release a press would mandate that the fraternity issue an apology to Casey Schimmelman and a statement to the
Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. has played a large part in my life in a short amount of time; this organization has granted me the opportunity to attend college through a scholarship. The scholarship that I was granted was through the alumni chapter in Fayetteville; it required letters of recommendations, a transcript, an application, and an essay on what I believe “Achievement in every field of human endeavor” means. Once I received the call that was telling me to meet the representative to receive a letter stating whether I received the scholarship. When I opened the letter, two tickets fell out for the Kappa Scholarship ball, and when I read the letter, it stated that I have been picked to receive the scholarship from Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. The weekend of the scholarship ball, my mother planned a graduation trip for a couple of friends of mine and I to go Myrtle Beach. So the day of the scholarship ball, I drove from Myrtle Beach to Fayetteville to attend the scholarship ball; once I arrived at the ball, I was greeted by many men of Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. When I sat down at the table that they reserved for me and the three other scholarship awardees, I was approached by many men of the fraternity. That night was very spectacular and eventful; the men who had presented me scholarship seemed down to earth, sociable guys. They treated me with so much respect, and talked to me about how I see my future and told me what I could do to be a successful African-American in today’s society. These men set an example of accomplishment and in the short time that we had together, they instilled in me that I should never be content with where I am and I can always do better as long as I have the mind set of an achiever. Without this scholarship, I ...
When I was elected Interfraternity Council Treasurer in December of 1997 I knew I was in for a long semester, but I never knew what might evolve. I was elected in the wake of alcohol problems across the country. The only alcohol problem I knew of that had happened at the University of Arkansas involved a fraternity on bid day (the day when new freshman receive their invitation to a fraternity house). It involved two students that drank so much alcohol that they had to be rushed to the hospital. Both students were released from the hospital and the fraternity was placed on alcohol probation. I happened to be a newcomer to that fraternity as well and all alcohol probation meant to the fraternity was that they had to be a little more careful about where they drank alcohol in the house.
I applied for and joined Freshman Council, pursued leadership roles in my Greek Organization, and supported various campaigns throughout the year. Wrapping up my Freshman year, I though I had made the decision to not continue my involvement in the Associated Student Body. I wanted to continue to support my friends and others on ASB, but I did not see a place for me on it. I have been exposed to many people on ASB that use it as a resume booster, or other purposes, rather than just a genuine desire to serve the student body. It is not that I did not like ASB, or felt negatively towards it; I simply did not feel my personality fit in with the parts of ASB that I was around. I wanted to continue in a calmer, behind the scenes environment in my social Greek Organization and my business fraternity. When I attended the debate, I had a change of
