On the 19th of September 2017, I, Gily Ocampo, have conducted a laboratory safety checklist for North Metropolitan TAFE at East Perth campus. Safety audit had been created from the gathered information from the checklist. The auditing was administered from 19th of September 2017 to 16th of October 2017, delineating the following areas that were looked at:
⎫ General Safety and Housekeeping in all laboratory areas
⎫ Reporting and Records
⎫ Fire and Evacuation
⎫ Chemical Safety
⎫ Biological Laboratory
⎫ Electrical, Physics and Radiation Laboratory
⎫ Machinery, Instrumentation and Manual Handling
My fellow peers went through the checklist together the day before with technical Director Dale Longman, who walked them through the laboratories.

All laboratories should be audited at least annually. However, laboratories with hazardous materials or work processes should have more regular audits conducted. It is a requirement to have a systematic approach in order that all hazards can be acknowledged. When observing for hazards the interactions between the work environment, work practices, equipment or substances and individual involved (staff, students, visitors) should be taken into …show more content…

The First Aid kit is located in the hallway between A 310 and A 309 or outside the biological technician room. It is easily accessible and available for everyone to use, and is also up to date. All the materials inside are labelled with contents and dates (current, used by, when it has been checked and when to update).
All safety showers and eye washes are under Australian Standard AS4775-2007 Routine inspection of plumed showers and eye wash equipment.
The safety shower is located in the centre point of the hallway or in between the chemistry and biology laboratories. It is next to room A 316. Good location for fast access due to it is designed open. There is also an eye wash associated with it.
The shower and the eye wash are tested and recorded in log books which includes weekly testing and the name/initials of the tester. The log books contain instructions for the authorized person to use.
The shower was last tested at 22nd of September 2016, while the eye wash was at 1st of February
It is vital when investigating or using law that you look at the most up to date version, as some things may modified to meet current standards. All the laboratories workers should be aware of this law. In laboratories there must be 'Health and Safety at Work' displayed somewhere because posters explain the basics laws and
There were minimal risks in this section of the practical as glucose is a sugar and is not harmful; however we still wore lab coats and goggles to protect our clothing and eyes from any accidental splashing. We also had to take care when using the pipettes so not to stab ourselves or anyone with them so we had to make sure that we had full concentration on the task and that no one was in too close proximity of you so that they are in danger of getting injured. We also had be careful not to smash any of the glass equipment as this could cause someone to get cut so to prevent this we tried hard not to smash any of the equipment and any breakages are cleared up following laboratory procedures and practices.

Many hazards are associated with chemicals in this lab. Most of the chemicals used are irritating when they come in contact with your eyes, skin, or body tissues. Some chemicals are more dangerous, and can be corrosive to your body tissues. In one case, a chemical, when combined with any acids, can produce a toxic gas. In order to protect against these hazards, one must wear safety goggles throughout the entire lab as well as when cleaning up after the lab. Also, one should avoid contact with the chemicals and use extreme caution when handling each of the
Solvent resistant gloves, safety glasses or goggles, and a lab coat are required to be worn by the analyst during sample preparation or in any other laboratory situation in which contact with reagents/chemicals could possibly occur.

Testing must be performed on a pre-established schedule and will be executed under supervision of the qualified individual to validate the sampling; besides, must be implemented by third party testing services, and the Instruments used for analysis should be calibrated in accordance with established procedures.

Any components that have been rejected should be dealt with under a quarantine system which keeps them from being used in manufacturing. All equipment and containers need to be properly sterilized to protect from any sources of contamination because they could cause serious risks if not dealt with appropriately. Many laboratory controls are set into place to properly test batches of drug products for stability. Since incorrect dosages of drugs can easily be lethal, it’s crucial that these regulations test products, especially for expiration dates and appropriate storage conditions.

Safety remains one of the key elements in modern school labs; it is necessary for the staff to ensure the safety of all the lab users. Every chemical and equipment in the laboratory have the potential to harm if adequate safety measures are not taken into account. As lab uses, you have to consider that you follow the basic safety guidelines for the lab sessions. Always be aware of all the general safety precaution and familiarize yourself with the appropriate protective measures that can keep you safe (NIOSH, 2006). It is important to consider that serious damage could occur if the basic safety rules and regulations for lab practice are not followed. It is in this light that a clear guideline for safety and protection
The biosafety program ensures the competency of the laboratory staff in safely performing their job through training and documentation of technical expertise. The laboratory staff must manifest professional responsibility for management of research materials complying with appropriate materials management procedures. A hallmark of biosafety practices requires laboratory access to be limited to essential personnel only when work with biological agents is in progress. Biosecurity practices on the other hand ensure that access to the laboratory facility and biological materials are limited and controlled. An inventory system must also be in place so as to control and track biological stocks or other potentially hazardous biological agents in both biosafety and biosecurity programs. For biosafety, the transfer and shipping of infectious biological materials must comply with safe packaging, containment and appropriate transport procedures, while biosecurity ensures that transfers are controlled, tracked and documented relative to the potential risks of the materials being transferred. Both programs must involve the laboratory staff in the development of practices and procedures that fulfills the requirements of biosafety and biosecurity initiatives without hindering research or clinical/diagnostic activities. The success of both of these programs is anchored on a laboratory culture
Children learn every single day about different issues in their lives. Although everyday some are not taught the right thing to do. Instead some children learn how to discriminate against other cultures. This potential discrimination can be prevented by teaching culture diversity. The best place children can learn this ideal is through church, so How can we teach culture diversity to children in church?
Our home, though seemingly safe, you need to have an adequate stock of supplies in the first aid kit in a place accessible without any difficulty. The longer you take to locate the first aid kit can make a huge difference in complicating the injuries.
