Scientology was developed by L. Ron Hubbard. Hubbard wanted to create a religion that offered a path leading to a complete understanding of one’s true spiritual nature. Along with a relationship with to one’s self, family, groups, Mankind, all life forms, the material universe, the spiritual universe and the Supreme Being.
Lafayette Ronald Hubbard was an author known for his self-help books. Hubbard began his studies of the mind and spirit in 1923. This resulted in his manuscript entitled “Excalibur” in 1938. He decided to take his findings further and developed the manuscript “Dianetics” in 1947. The work was eventually published in 1951 as Dianetics: The Original Thesis. Those who practice scientology believe that Man is far more than a product of his environment, or his genes. Even though it draws on the wisdom of 50,000 years, Scientology is considered a new religion. It has isolated fundamental laws of life that can be used to help individuals achieve a happier and more spiritual existence in their lives. Scientology is said to be something that one does, not something that one believes in. The purpose of this religion is to enable Man to improve his lot through understanding. Scientology also teaches that people are immortal beings who have forgotten their true nature. The religion also contains the solutions to the problems of living, the end result is an increased awareness along with spiritual freedom. Unlike in Christianity where there is a god, a Supreme Being is purposely left out in scientology. God is referred to as Nature, Infinity and or the Eighth Dynamic, They also believe that Jesus was a man that was not enlightened, and that the church invented him as the savior of the world. The bible is also said to be irrelevant. In the bible sin is looked at as a violation of God’s holy standards but to scientology sin is simply ignorance. Scientologists also believe that heaven and hell are Christian myths because we are immortal beings and our spirits do not die it is only our physical body. There is also no scared texts that can be compared to the bible. The only similarities that the two seem to have is that they both believe in a spirt and a supreme being.
