Since I was about four years old I had an obsession with fast food: Krispy Kreme. My obsession takes me way back I can even remember everything growing up. According to my grandmother, whenever we drove by a Krispy Kreme when I was about four, I would say the word "doughnut" seeing the big red circle sign the words saying hot Krispy Kreme doughnuts now. And that is where it all started for me and my favorite type of sweet junk food. Krispy Kreme, in particular, had an influence on me growing up. I’m however, very passionate about American doughnuts. Most kids I grew up with were passionate about cheese balls, pizza, popcorn, and ice cream; I never seemed quite interested in those type of goodies. There has always been something that were completely irresistible to me about a little sweet glazed or fill doughnut and some hot chocolate .I am not sure if it is the way the chocolate iced glazed with sprinkles doughnut that caught my eye and attention or the way the original glazed doughnut smelted in my little mouth. I had gotten hooked from what seems like birth.

My grandma would go through the drive thru and get these for me I were about three. One of my favorite things to get and were always easier for me to chew other than anything else. I had many doughnuts and hot chocolate or cold chocolate milk being watched by my nanny, Velma .We had such special bond because she had a daughter my age and her name was Jamila .From then and still do which goes way back. Many other early memories I have are the slumber parties I had at my nanny house as a kid. I remembering having my five-year-old birthday party at the Arcade Iron Horse. They needed the girls to make something that they could sell to raise funds for activities. The year was 1939 and these two busy ladies came up with Rice Krispie treats. Several stories about how the country’s favorite baked good came to be, have been spread and believed by thousands. For example, Ruth Wakefield unexpectedly ran out of nuts for a regular ice-cream cookie recipe and, in desperation, replaced them with chunks chopped out of a bar of Nestle bittersweet chocolate. Another story is said that the vibrations from an industrial mixer caused chocolate stored on a shelf in the Toll House kitchen to fall into a bowl of cookie dough as it was being mixed. I can remember rare occasions as a child when I would wake up for school and there would be pancakes, eggs and bacon on the table and orange juice or Sunny Delight to drink. These exciting occasions, however, were just that: rare. Most days I would bound down the stairs to the toaster loaded with Pop-Tarts. I would usually be disappointed that I couldn't devour a wholesome breakfast, but I later came to understand the convenience of the Pop-Tart. My parents could put pastries in the toaster and continue to get ready for their day without having to worry about too much clean-up. It was during these early days of my education that I really found a love for the sugary, fruit-filled pastries.

I remember taking baths in the kitchen sink after a long day outside, riding the four-wheeler with my aunt, and playing with the kittens. The farm was my second home, and it still is. I don't have a lot of fantastic memories of childhood. There were no spectacular family adventures, no unique family projects that taught some sort of moral lesson, no out-of-the-ordinary holidays. We ate family meals together, but most of the time the children and adults lived in different worlds. The kids went to school, did homework, and played; the adults worked. I was lucky, though. When I wanted a little of both worlds, I could always turn to Grandpa.
