“One way to keep momentum going is to have constantly greater goals”: Michael Korda
Goals are crucial to life. They add discipline, determination and enthusiasm to keep moving in life for something that has the potential to change our present and future significantly.
For example, a student sets a goal to complete graduation to get a job and secure his future. The student, in short, secures his life with the goal to gain a graduate degree.
Everyone, irrespective of their gender, profession, age and ethnicity, has a goal in their life to achieve. Let us try to understand this with an example of a housewife. A housewife has the responsibility to take care of her home and family. So, her goal in life is to provide an environment that is conducive for her family to prosper. She can achieve this goal by completing her work on time. For instance, she will have to buy grocery beforehand to prepare food for her family. She needs a proper plan to achieve the goal. She will have

He may have to work hard to complete assignments and go through the course to get the highest score.
In both examples, the goals are motivational and capable of changing the life of the person in a smart manner. Keeping their respective goals in mind, the housewife will be able to serve her family better and the student will be able to concentrate in his studies. But, there is one difference in the two examples. The goal of the student is set for term paper which may happen anywhere within a year. The goal of the housewife, on the other hand, is set for the lifetime. She will have to work hard day in and out to serve her family.
Goals are of two types: long-term goals and short-term goals. The short-term goals are the one that can be achieved within a period of 12 months. Long-term goals, on the other hand, take more than 12 months to achieve. Let us understand the long-term and short-term goals with some

Goals are logical and calculated, aspirations are emotional and inspirational, and needs cannot be avoided and are necessary to survival. Goals are typically about meeting, narrowing, and focusing on an outcome. Therefore, they can limit and create a narrow-minded approach of the world. On the other hand, aspirations are expansive and create new possibilities. There are more paths and options available, with a better sense of opportunities as they arise. Needs are finite things, motivating forces that compel action for satisfaction.
goal in life is to seek, in pursuit of happiness and truth, and hold on to that of what you
People need to think intelligently and set goals that are specific to their needs, making it possible to achieve their goals by making sure they are measurable and realistic and making it possible to build a support system around them; furthermore, they also need to set a deadline with time frames that can be met. Chanika Charles stated that “young people are at risk of being gobbled up by despair, overcome by conditions beyond their control” (A17). To avoid this, people need to start motivating themselves and getting excited about what they want to achieve, making sure their goals are relevant to their needs and being more perseverance when situations become difficult. When setting up their goals, they must ask that magic question: is this relevant to my lifestyle, furthermore, what will I do to achieve it?
For instance, Rudy’s goal was to play football at Notre Dame. He focused on it and he practiced football every day and watched every single Notre Dame football there was. He even succeeded in a part he didn’t usually succeed in. Grades. Goal setting, to me, is a bit like planning. For instance, you plan what you’re going to be doing for that day, so basically you are setting a goal for that day. It helps you organize and it helps you not waste your time and it also helps your mindset become positive because you know that you’ve got something to reach and that you’re not in the world for no reason, you have a
"Achievement was all very well, but it was the process, not the goal, that was most important" (Sotomayor 92) – I live among these lines. You learn more over the process of your goal than the goal itself.
The types of goals set can differ from short and long-term goals. Short-term goals are something that can be achieved in less than a year and long-term goals are anywhere from two to five years or something that will make a career last a long time (Merriam-Webster, 2014). Having goals set and using the virtue ethics theory can help with the decision-making process and boost ones character. Short-Term Goals for Virtue Ethics A short-term goal is something that progresses in a short-time frame and can lead to a successful long-term goal (Merriam-Webster, 2014).
Goals give you something to measure yourself against and give you direction. Currently, my main goal is to graduate from East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree of science in engineering with a concentration in biomedical engineering. My anticipated time to graduation is five years with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Beyond getting my bachelor’s degree at East Carolina University, I would like to go to medical school and become a doctor focusing on prosthetics. In order to make my goals a reality, I will have to work diligently to remain on track throughout my schooling. Additional goals that I have set for myself are to complete homework assignments by the time they are due, reading assigned material before it is discussed in class, doing well in each of my courses this semester, successfully participating in extracurricular activities, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, getting a position as an engineer, and becoming a leader within both the engineering community and the general community. A world-class engineering student woul...
I set goals for myself all the time in many different aspects of my life. This experience was different because I don’t always take the time to write out goals. Taking this extra step allows you to plan for success despite barriers that may arise due to your environment or social systems. As a social worker I will be better equipped to empower others in goal setting and planning after going through the planning myself. Being aware of how social systems and the environment affect goal setting will allow me the ability to view client’s situations through an ecological lens, while empowering them in the goal setting and planning
Life has no meaning without goals. In order to succeed setting goal is very important. Without setting goals there would be nothing to look forward to, or even have anything to achieve. Goals are a vital aspect of our lives. It gives a sense of self-confidence. I believe without goals life would just be a plain and no excitement at all. Long-term and short-term goals are intertwined and work similarly to build a house from ground up. I vision myself become a radiologist within the next three to five years. This is my present long-term goal. To achieve my long term goal I have two short term goals, first to get good grades in prerequisites courses and second to complete my grad school program with "A" grade minimum, because graduating with good grades is the stepping stone for my long-term goal.
Setting and achieving goals (long-term and short-term) are the process of knowing what you want and getting what you want. Time management is a crucial strategy for personal goals achievement. It is common that college students encounter stress in their academic life, and the stress can be positive or negative based on how students react to it. The first step in reaching a long-term goal is to understand the S.M.A.R.T. goal process. Simply using the words specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound can be a bit confusing. After a bit of research, I was able to better define the method. Using a S.M.A.R.T. Goal worksheet provided by Tatt (2012), I was able to understand the definition of each word in the acronym. In other words, specific stands for the who, what, where, why, and when of the goal. Measurable is explained by asking how much, how often, and how many. Attainable asks if the goal achievable. Relevant is defined as how it applies to your ultimate vision. Finally, time-bound is a time-restraint you establish to complete the specific goal. Furthermore, there is a section for intention or in other words, the long-term goal (Tatt, 2012). By filling out this worksheet I was able to first state my intention and then break it down further into smaller specific goals that would eventually lead up to the final picture. By choosing just one specific goal at a time and achieving that success, it becomes much easier to complete your overall dream.
Goal setting can increase motivation. Goal setting is setting realistic, achievable goals which one can work towards. for example working from nothing to a 5k over a number of weeks then reviewing the plan and setting a new goal of 10k. Goals affect performance through four mechanisms. They serve as a direct function; they direct a person to relevant activities and away from the irrelevant. Goals have an energizing function; high goals can produce more effort than low goals. The harder it is to achieve the harder one will work. Goals affect persistence, some will work harder to achieve a goal in a tighter deadline however some with a lower intensity of work will achieve goals over a prolonged period. Goals are affected by arousal, if one is interested and excited by a goal they will achieve
They can have their own personal goals, but they should also have goals that pertain to their profession. These goals are important to have because often it will relate to advance their knowledge in the field or contributing in a positive way. Goals help people improve who they are and what they do. A professional who is experienced and has an expertise in early childhood should still create goals for themselves. A person can also
