Killing Mr. Griffin

The book I chose to do this project was Killing Mr. Griffin by Lois Duncan. The book is about a group of teenagers who kidnap their teacher, but it goes horribly wrong. Mr. Griffin, the teacher they kidnap, is a very hard working teacher that only wants for his student to do the best they can. Later in the book, Mark comes up with the idea to kidnap Mr. Griffin. In order to do this, he would need the help of everyone in his class. When they kidnap him, the teens take Mr. Griffin to a lake and decide to leave him there for a while. This story takes place in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the late 1970s. The major characters of this book are Mr. Griffin, Susan, Mark, Betsy, Jeff, and David. Mark, one of the main characters, decides that instead of putting up with Mr. Griffin for a whole school year, it would be worthwhile to organize a group of his classmates to kidnap him. Mark is not a good student at all, and he does not like to follow the rules. Mark is constantly failing his assignments, not just the ones Mr. Griffin gives him. Somehow Mark even gets the good kids to join in on his evil plan. This is the part where David and Susan come in. Because David looks up to Mark, he would do anything to get his attention. David’s job is to get Susan to go along with the plot. She refuses at first, but she quickly gets pulled in only because she wants to spend time with David her crush. Susan is a good student who gets straight A’s in all of her classes, instead of Mr. Griffin’s. Susan would rather stay at home and study to prepare herself for tests and quizzes. Often, Susan is thought of as uncool and no one likes her. Mark gets Susan to grab Mr. Griffin’s attention after school. This is how he is kidnapped. Another main character is Jeff... ... middle of paper ... ...ime, he was being totally serious. Thinking that this would make Mr. Griffin quit his job, the two began discussing a plan. They chose Susan as the person who would trick Mr. Griffin into stay after school. This was a perfect position for Susan, because no one ever suspects a good girl. Susan accepts David’s offer, only because she had a crush on him. In my opinion, I could not have picked a better book to do this project on. Even though I do not like to read, I think that this book is a well written, great novel. This novel combines suspense, mystery, and action. My favorite part of the book was when the group of five kidnap Mr. Griffin and abandon him by the lake because this was the climax of the story. I would recommend this book to people who love murder mysteries, suspense, and a shocking ending. I would even recommend this book to people who do not read.
