The story that I liked the most was “Kids Who Die”. This poem is about the kids who died during tragic events. The poem was just saying that kids will die and the fact that this is a fact is messed up and that is what he is trying to portray. The idea of the poem was to inform people of what will happen and years later it came true. This poem is really interesting yet sad to know that something like that is eventually going to happen to our youth. This poem portrays the world that we now live in. In today’s day and age the youth are expected to live a normal lifespan butt with the cold hard truth in this poem you can see that for most kids that is not the case. Not only is that sad it is just not right, there is something we as a people
By rereading the poem several times, made me not only appreciate it, but understand it on a different level. Saenz did a great job at telling the story so that people can view it different ways. I enjoyed the poem because it clearly drew a picture in my mind of what he was talking about. At one point, I felt like I could see what he was talking about. I never acknowledged poems prior to this one because I felt that poems were too cheesy and corny. Instead of telling the story he made it a journey for the readers to get what he was saying. This poem shows how life was at the time and what people were surrounded with. Fortunately, many children are exposed to that today and are pushed in the right direction. All in all this poem was of the most interesting poems I've ever read and made me think harder than I ever would on any other

I found Decan’s poem the most interesting, because I wonder how he hid his addiction all those years. Mr. Taylor was a member of the church and belonged to the party of prohibition. Everyone thought he died from eating watermelon when in reality he died from drinking for thirty years. The epitaph states, “I slipped behind the prescription partition in Trainor’s drug store And poured a generous drink From the bottle marked ‘Spiritus Frumenti’” Life is a great theme for this poem because he lives his life but at the same time doing something he enjoys even though its frowned upon. Life includes being happy so why not do something you like, while living your life.
The poem I read was "From the Hazel Bough" by Earle Birney. This poem paints a great picture of a specific situation and also represents an aspect of life that I am sure we all have experienced in one way or another. In order to get the full affect of this poem, you have to clear your mind and envision the close details that Birney is using in the descriptions of the characters. This poem has to be read line by line.
At this point of the story it is reflective of a teenager. A teenager is at a time in life where boundaries and knowledge is merely a challenging thing to test and in some instances hurdled. Where even though you may realize the responsibilities and resources you have, there is still a longing for the more sunny feelings of youth.
The poem also focuses on what life was like in the sixties. It tells of black freedom marches in the South how they effected one family. It told of how our peace officers reacted to marches with clubs, hoses, guns, and jail. They were fierce and wild and a black child would be no match for them. The mother refused to let her child march in the wild streets of Birmingham and sent her to the safest place that no harm would become of her daughter.
"Speech to the young" is a poem by Gwendolyn Brooks which is about telling young people to live in the future and say no to the down-Keepers, sun-slappers, self-soilers, and, the harmony-hushers. She is telling young people to "live in the along" which she is telling them to live in the future and don't mess up. She is telling young people to live in the along because some people live in the past which that's a bad thing. They also need to live and think positive. One line she has i really like is "even if you are not ready for day it cannot always be night." How Children Deal with Death Death is hard to deal with for everyone, but for children especially; they view death in various ways at different ages. At these ages children need help and guidance from their parents. The first step is to help them feel a part of the whole experience, doing this will allow them to deal with the death.
The author uses imagery, contrasting diction, tones, and symbols in the poem to show two very different sides of the parent-child relationship. The poem’s theme is that even though parents and teenagers may have their disagreements, there is still an underlying love that binds the family together and helps them bridge their gap that is between them.
“Lucinda Matlock,” by Edgar Lee Masters, illustrates the older generation’s upbringing and their views on the youth. This is a very common action done by many elderly people, once they realize most of their life is over. Masters uses Matlock as his narrator because, she lived what seems to be a very hard life, yet even after her death, still feels lucky to have lived the life she did. In conclusion, the poem helps you to realize and accept that just like birth is natural, death is a natural process in life. No matter what, death is inevitable. But instead of holding on to the sad memories, you can use the happier memories to cope and deal with the loss of a loved one or family pet. However, you are able to be at peace with the fact that you loved them until the end.
Not only do the reflections on life and death make this poem inspirational, but more importantly the progression he gave those thoughts. This poem contains distinctive lines that make you look at what he is trying to say from a different angle. Gray wants his readers to know that it is important for one to live life with humility and dignity, whether rich or poor, because in the end, it is important to have at least one person to remember you for the life you lived. ...ory. I also found some of the phrases in the story very profound, something that one could dwell upon and cherish, like "Death, perhaps, is poetry, and life, prose. Or was it the other way round?" These are perhaps the vision of the author, which emanated from the story. By and large, I found the story interesting and very memorable, something I will be keeping close to my heart.
