Theme The theme of The Battle of the Ampere is greed is detrimental and will only lead to your downfall. Setting The Battle of the Ampere is set in Peru and takes place in present times or modern day. Characters • Michael Vey is the main character of the book. He and the Electroclan are trying to blow up the Elgen yacht and main boat, the Ampere. • Ostin Liss is very smart and often helps create plans for the group. He is non-electric. • Taylor Ridley can read other people’s minds and reboot them. She is Michael’s girlfriend. • Dr. Hatch is the antagonist of the story. He is greedy and tyrannical. He has also overtaken the Elgen corporation and is about to overtake the island nation of Tuvalu. • Wade is non-electric but helps the Electroclan driving and fighting. These themes include friendship, courage, and hubris. Michael Vey and his group show friendship and courage. However, Hatch is very prideful and he is often overconfident. These themes are exhibited in the plot of the story. Michael and the Electroclan are ready to risk their lives to save each other. Over the years they have developed strong relationships after going through many hair-raising experiences some which were close to death. Near the end of the book, part of the Electroclan were trapped aboard the Ampere and thought they were going to die. The rest of the Electroclan who had almost quit came back just in time to save them. Their friends couldn’t let them take the risk and came to help. The Elgen are very powerful and deceive the Peruvian Army that the Electroclan is a terrorist group because they shut down the power plant. They blind the Peruvian Army from the truth and portray themselves as their saviors. Although the Electroclan could take the easy way and let the Elgen do what they want to do. They display courage and understand that the easier way isn’t always the correct way. In
