Charles Dickens has said that “No one is useless in this world who lightens the burden of others.” Ken Hart lifted some of the load off of of the people in guatemala.Whether it was driving a school bus filled with food and supplies from Iowa to Guatemala, or building a free school so the children don't have to choose between education or food. He didn't think he was doing anything heroic, even after going down eleven times over the years. Ken went beyond what was expected, helped those who couldn't help themselves, and became a hero.
Lots of people do missionary work for a noble cause; Ken Hart was one of those people. The main reason Ken did it is because he is a God fearing Christian who believes in doing the right thing by helping others that are less fortunate. According to Avivara, a missionary project in Guatemala, over half of the population lives in poverty and 30% of that don't get enough food to survive. (“Poverty in Guatemala”). Secondly, according to him, he did it because it's what the Bible preaches“Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor.” (Hawkins). According Ken Hart, “The kids had to decide between eating or an education, before we put in the free school.” Also according to Reading Village Guatemala has one of the lowest literacy rates in the Western Hemisphere, second to Haiti, with 74% over 15 years old being able to read and write (“Guatemala”).
