Successful workers have many crucial characteristics that contribute to their success. I believe that an essential one is ambition because it drives you to take initiative. More importantly, it motivates you to improve. This relates to the idea that you are in charge of your own destiny, which is illustrated by Kate Lorenz in 10 Attitudes of Successful Workers (1). First, ambition encourages you to take initiative. If you long to fulfill your goal, you can’t stand around waiting for people to make it happen for you. If you think you’re ready for a promotion, you can consult your boss to see if he agrees with you. For instance, in my brother’s sophomore year of high school, he yearned to be in honors classes. Instead of waiting
“There is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs,” was said by motivational speaker and American author Zig Ziglar. This relates to Carol S. Dweck’s article “Brainology” and Sherman Alexie’s essay “Superman and Me.” Ziglar, Dweck, and Alexie all feel that it isn’t easy for someone to become successful. It takes hard work, perseverance, and the want to learn and grow. In Dweck’s article, she stated that someone with a growth mindset would become more successful and knowledgeable than someone with a fixed mindset, which was demonstrated by Alexie in his essay, and by a personal experience of my own.
Success isn’t always so easy. Sometimes there are risks and factors that play along to allow for growth. However; personal development is a lifelong process. It’s a way for individuals to assess their skills and qualities, and consider their aims in life to set goals in order to maximise their potential. In order to receive the best outcome; there may need to be obstacles and challenges in the way to prevent an easy route to reach the top in success.
The motivation to be successful is very powerful. Some people will work twelve hours a day, seven days a week in order to feel successful. These people will work so
If someone wants to succeed in life and stay recognized by superiors, then he or she ought to appear hardworking. A person begins with setting goals. There are two categories, the first, “be” goals and the second, “do” goals. In other words, ask yourself, "What to be?" or "What to achieve?" Four categories of goals consist of wealth, health, relationships, and self-fulfillment which equal success. Working diligently to finish a task demonstrates how to live a successful life. Given these points, Thomas Edison, Helen Keller and Harriet Tubman, all exceptional achievers, found that prosperity undoubtedly comes along for everyone who perseveres.
Margaret Mead once said that "For many Americans, the concept of success is a source of confusion. As a people, we Americans greatly prize success. We are taught to celebrate and admire the one who gets the highest grades, the one voted most attractive or most likely to succeed. But while we often rejoice in the success of people far removed from ourselves-people who work in another profession, live in another community, or are endowed with a talent that we do not especially want for ourselves-we tend to regard the success of people close at hand, within our own small group, as a threat." Personally i believe that this is not true for many reasons. It makes the world run smoother although I wont be talking about that personally it really does.
Most people throughout the world strive for success in each task they take on, and along with this, many reasons contribute to why they succeed or not. If a person does not succeed, they may automatically blame themselves because of their level of strength. Others may blame themselves for not having enough knowledge about what they are trying to succeed at. The real reason that people may not succeed, however, is their lack of determination and happiness throughout his/her journey that is demonstrated in the book Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell.
Nearly everyone has the desire to be successful in their lives, whether it be measured in the amount of wealth a man owns or the accomplishments he has made in his life. Therein lies the most common, the success in a man's profession. There are multiple approaches to this connotation of success where a wide range of techniques can be applied. One might think that the only way to reach a particular level of success is to take on a competitive nature and achieve that coveted position of number 1. However, being competitive does not necessarily insure that a person is ‘successful.’ They must be competent in their field to reach the top spot. An example of these two sides can be found within Arthur Miller’s Death of A Salesman using the characters Willy and Bernard.
People want to do more than work as machines; they want to be productive as well as being recognized by others. Following the successful managers handbook, when employees have the opportunity to work with a leader who challenges, inspires and appreciates them, they are more likely to perform above their expectations.
Having admirable character, making conscientious decisions, and possessing positive determination are key ingredients for remarkable success.
To become a truly effective leader, one must encapsulate the various behaviors related to the aforementioned course learnings in his/her persona and demonstrate such behaviors daily. This course has allowed me to identify four behaviors that all leaders must portray to be effective. The first of which is that a leader must be inspirational. To do so, a leader must set the appropriate vision and direction for the organization and provide a path to achieving defined goals. Additionally, a leader must induce the proper levels of motivation so that each employee has sufficient incentive to work towards the organization’s goals. As discussed in the class, motivation can be accomplished by factors such as rewarding hard work and providing the correct opportunities to employees. While these are motivating in that employees desire to be fairly compensated and to be doing work they deem valuable, inspiration comes more from organizational culture. A leader will be inspirational by setting a tone that appreciates each employee’s contribution, no matter how small in scale it is. Further, employees are inspired when they work collaboratively in a group setting and can capitalize on individual strengths to drive organizational goals.
One of the most commonly debated and researched fields in the business world is motivation. Why do people do what they do and how can we motivate others to do what we need them to do in the business place? If we understand how and why people are motivated, we can encourage them to be their best and do their best at work. The more that people are motivated to be successful and achieve the goals set for them, the more their confidence in their own abilities will grow as well, which can, in turn, make them even more motivated.
When it is discovered that a worker can fulfill the requirements of their job, but are experiencing shortcomings in doing so, many times it is believed that worker motivation may be the root of the problem (Laird 95). What, though, is work motivation? According to Laird (2006), “motivation is a fundamental component of performance “ and “is the reason that someone chooses to do some things and chooses not to do others”. In other words, work motivation is what energizes workers to the level of output required to fulfill a task, directs their energy towards the objectives that they need to accomplish, and sustains that level of effort over a period of time (Steers et al., 2004). In essence, worker motivation is what gets the job done.
At the end of my career, I want to be recognized as a positive team leader who can bring the best out of her subordinates and help increase profits for the company. I believe it can be achieved due to the impact on people’s lives around me in school and out. California State University Monterey Bay prepared me for these objectives by implementing teamwork, passion for your career and love for diversity. I do realize to accomplish all that I want to, I have to be motivated and keep a positive attitude as I continue to learn new skills. “If a thing turns you on, you’ll be good at it; If it doesn’t, you won’t”, said by David Maister, because you have to love what you do in order to enjoy life and produce great outcomes in your job selection.[1] Especially now with the turmoil in the economy, if you have a great job, you are blessed and hold on to it. Therefore, in the next paragraphs, I will show you my ca...
A large portion of one’s life is spent working to become successful. People are told throughout childhood to work hard so they can grow up and make lots of money. Different people have different interpretations of what success means to them. For some, success is measured by social status and wealth, but for others, success is determined only by the amount of joy and happiness one feels.
When people sit down and reflect on their lives, they look at the things that they’ve achieve and the things that they wanted to achieve, but didn’t get to. Most of the times when people sit down and reflect on their lives they consider themselves to be successful or to be a failure; there really isn’t any in between. There are a lot of things that people take into consideration when they analyze their lives and how they’ve succeeded at doing the things they truly wanted to. One of the most important things that I think most people take into consideration when analyzing their lives is whether or not they were successful in the workforce, growing up in the type of society that we have and have had, we are taught that the things you have matter.
