When Kat Von D first sneak peaked the palette on her ex-boyfriends Instagram I was bouncing off the walls in excitement. Leave it to Kat Von D to come up with the most interesting collaborations. When I saw the colors in the palette, my excitement dwindled. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way, but the palette didn't scream Divine to me. The blue shades where definitely appropriate as Divine would often wear blue when she wasn't wearing neutral colored eyeshadows (in one of Divine's most recognizable scenes that comes from Pink Flamingos, Divine is wearing over the top blue eyeshadow). The black and white eyeshadows definitely have their place in the palette, especially the black which is perfect to fill in a giant wing or cut a crease. What perplexes me …show more content…
the most is the green eyeshadow. I did read a comment on Instagram where someone claimed that the green eyeshadow was created to resemble Divine's bizarre character in color.
I can see where they're coming from, but I don't know if I'm sold on that idea and furthermore, why name it "Pink Flamingos" was it because the trailer she was living in was half green, probably not. "Babs" is also another shade that perplexes me. I can't say I've across any photos where Divine is wearing champagne eyeshadow, but perhaps this shade was thrown in to make the color scheme more coherent and wearable. The last two shades "Filthy" and "Hairspray," I feel similarly towards. Divine did wear matte gray eyeshadows, but again these shades felt as though they were thrown to ground the palette's color scheme. While I do like the color scheme as a whole, I just don't feel as though it completely screams Divine to me. I would have really enjoyed a neutral brown, a purple, or even a bright red eyeshadow, colors more synonymous with colors Divine wore. The lipstick though simple, is quite spot on, when Divine wasn't wearing bright red lips, she often wore beige lipsticks. The last thing that I need to address, is the absence of plus sized models for the
campaign. Divine was a confident plus sized diva and to not feature at least one plus sized model felt inappropriate to me. I'm sure it was nothing personal, but being that Divine is an idol of mine, I can't help being overly critical towards every aspect of this collection.
Kay encourages the usage of colored pencils and symbols as you progress through studying the Bible. For example, you can find all the references to prayer in a chapter and color them green with a colored pencil. Kay encourages you to stay consistent with symbols and colors throughout your entire Bible. Sometimes after evaluating a chapter, you will look at your page and feel like you have a color or symbol over every word in the chapter.
To begin, he uses an array of colors that allows each color in the sky to blend and transition harmoniously. Church also uses primary and secondary colors within the sky that consists of teal-green, reds, and bright yellow next to each other. This creates a contrast between the darker red shades in the cloud and the lighter shades of bright yellow in the sun. Besides the different shades that are being used, Church uses both neutral values and saturation. The neutral scheme can be seen in the black and gray-brown values of the trees and shadows in the bottom part of the painting. This, in comparison to the high saturation levels of the colors in the sky create a contrast. The colors in the sky are in their purest hue which means they are bright, and this being next to the dull and dark colored mountains and trees creates a contrast and more of an emphasis on the brightly colored sky. Those different colors also fall under complementary and analogous colors. The red cloud complement the blue-green colors of the sky they are in. There is also a heavy use of reds, oranges and yellows, all falling next to each other on the color wheel shows Church’s use of analogous

In nature things often occur that parallel our way way of being. In this short excerpt, Annie Dillard portrays the amount of determination and stubbornness in weasels, which is much like our own. At the beginning Ms. Dillard reflects on the characteristics that make a weasel wild. She writes that the weasel “…[kills] more bodies than he can eat warm, and often dragging the carcasses home” (Dillard 1). She then moves on to the weasels instinct, and stubbornness, through an anecdote in which a naturalist found himself with a weasel stuck to his arm with one bite, and try as he might her could not “pry the tiny weasel” (Dillard 1) off his arm. The only way he was able to release himself was to “soak him[the weasel] off like a stubborn label”(Dillard

Her very warm outfit gives the picture a sense of emotion that can affect the audience outlook of the perfume on oneself. The lighting filter emphasizes shades shown by the product notifying that this is the best a woman can receive. The lighting looks to be coming from the sun angled downward on the woman and, the field of flowers colors’ blends in to give the flowers a more delicate look as women would look at them. The flowers’ colors have similar warmth matching the lighting. If the colors were to be an off color not matching the lighting, the photo would lose its focus of the warm tone the advertisement is bringing because of the different tone the color brings. The lighting on to the flowers causes the flowers to pop out more than other items due to the slight color difference; this pop out affection connects to the perfume name “poppy.” The lighting makes her stand out, making her the overall focus. The audience grabs an idea of how the flowers smell and wants to be involved in the peace that her body language portrays. The woman when wearing this perfume receives that power but still have a gentle image. The lighting being her power, which causes her to stand out, gives the audience a reason to receive the strong light in their life also. It is impossible to talk about a Wes Anderson movie without acknowledging its stunning color palettes and quirky storytelling style. In one of his most exemplary works, Moonrise Kingdom, Anderson uses a warm color scheme that blends bright and desaturated colors that ranges from golden yellow, vermillion red, creamy beige, light brown, to even a hint of teal. His color scheme, which is reflected throughout the film’s props, sets, costumes, title design, and camera filters, effectively evokes nostalgia, establishes the summer-like, dreamy mood of the film, and creates a distinct contrast between the different moral values of his characters. However, in the chaotic stormy escape scene and in the costume of Social Services, the visual design deviates greatly from the film’s primarily warm color palette and instead, immerse their visual elements in a deep, dark blue color to show the contrasts in the mood of the story as well as the attitudes of the characters. Overall, Anderson’s visual
After reading A Secret Sorrow by Karen Van Der Zee and “A Sorrowful Woman” by Gail Godwin one can tell they are not only different but alike in many ways. The names of these two pieces of work are not only similar however, the tone/mood, characters, and theme also have similarities and differences. While these two works of literature are exceptionally good in their own way, the difference between Gail Godwin's work compared to Karen Van Der Zee makes it a better piece of literature.
This piece contains darker shades of blue to create a dark, shadowy effect over the ballerinas. Even so, there are bright highlights on the dancers to enhance the sharpness and contrast of their figures. Colors like orange and peach are also highlight colors for the background behind the dancers. The main subjects of the artwork are wearing bright blue and white outfits to contrast with the more subdued greens and oranges of the background. Behind the dancers, Degas puts layers upon layers of pastel to create a realistic depth of color like that which one might experience in real life. The effect of this is quite stunning and adds a richness and intenseness to this piece.
Jean Paul Gaultier’s style is constantly evolving. He continues to be excited about the changes in society and the arts. His curiosity and need to absorb information fuels his creativity. He constantly takes qualities ascribed to a particular gender and mixes them up. Even after all these years Gaultier still manages to shock people though his creativity and ability to ignore stereotypes. “He knows how to surprise people, how to reinvent himself, how to innovate.” Martin Margiela [Page 103] Gaultier has left a last impression in the minds of humanity. “I believe that his playing with the concepts of gender and sexuality will be regarded as one of the key aspects of his career,” Valerie Steele
The way Byatt expresses many of these themes through her symbolic use of color is significant. Byatt paints with words, making her reminiscent of the Pre-Raphaelites. She gives color descriptions for her characters, painting the women such as LaMotte and Christabel in gold and green description, while persons whose characters are flat and never well-developed, such as Paola the secretary, are described in colorless terms. Paola has "long, colourless hair bound in a rubber band" huge mothlike glasses, and "dusty grey pads" for fingertips. Her lack of color sets her off from the beginning as a very flat character.
Symbolism was a major literary element that is developed throughout The Color Purple. A model or image of God in the novel was a truly disturbing and yet a touching dedication to the female spirit and its search for equality, acceptance and independence. The meanings of names, clothes, quilting, occupations, power, and colors are only a few examples of the symbols used by the author to develop the characters of the story. No matter how hard and long Celies looks, it seems impossible to find love and happiness for herself. The purple color itself symbolized love while religion was often seen as offering a path of transformation-a way that leads through to happiness. In The Color Purple, Alice Walker used the symbolism of the letters to God,
