Kalu Yala is on the verge of constructing what is expected to be the world’s most sustainable, modern village at the heart of a Panamanian rainforest. According to Kalu Yala, the setting at the heart of the Tres Brazos Valley is accessible through a dirt road stretching about 2 miles. It is also 35 minutes from the nearby international airport and 50 minutes from the country’s political and commercial capital, Panama City. The area enjoys a perfect, consistent weather with temperature reaching 84 degrees during the afternoons and 68 degrees during the nights. His inspiration to create Kalu Yala homes was informed by the need to change lives and the way people co-exist with the environment. According to Mathew Parker Photography, the Atlanta suburban native spent many years studying the concept of sustainable living back home. His decision to settle on the tropical outpost in Panama came after several consultations and trips. The over 500 acres piece of land, where the village sits is perfect in terms of its off-grid topography, climate and natural beauty. The sustainable learning opportunities are designed to help students and young opportunities challenge themselves and brace for the real world encounters. The program cover disciplines such as biology, agriculture, media arts, engineering, public health and wellness among others. Pursuant to the above, all students are required to attend outdoor seminars to learn about creativity, sustainability and innovation. (Speer 2013) The phylum that the Kudzu vine is a party of is the Spermatophyta and the family is the Fabaceae. (CABI 2014). Kudzu is an invasive species of plant or better seen as a vine. It was used in the beggining as a cover crop for farms and food for cattle before it began to take over. (Speer 2013) The family that the Kudzu is a part of is known as one of the largest families of flowering plants. The family is also known as the pea or bean family. The habitat of this family ranges from herbs to trees. The stem varies from being herbaceous to woody and angular to cylindrical. The leaves tend to alternate and the leafbase is usually swollen.
