The junior doctors strike actions is justified in the current political context
This essay will explain what junior doctors are and what their role as junior doctor are, why the junior doctors strike action is justified in the current political context and will also debate whether Jeremy Hunt the Secretary of State of health is to blame for the strike or is the British medical association to blame. Junior doctors are qualified medical practitioners who work whilst training to become a consultant or a general practitioner under postgraduate level. The role of junior doctors in the National Health Service is to educate and provide training for other junior doctors and student doctors, plan regulations in the workplace and provide patient

The junior doctors strike has happened because the Secretary of State of health Jeremy Hunt has gone against the action plan over new contracts. There are various amounts of operations and treatments provided for patients every day, but because of the strike the number of procedures has decreased because of the cancellations with 5,000 operations cancelled in February 2016 and 7,000 operations cancelled between the 6th and 8th of April 2016. In February 2016 19,000 treatments were delayed until further notice because there were not enough doctors to provide patient treatments. Outpatient clinics were also affected by the junior doctors strike because not all senior doctors and nurses were available to cover all appointments instead of the junior doctors. While the junior doctors are on strike senior doctors has to make sure that patients on the wards receives the relevant care and that they are receiving the correct medication and the right dose to treat their illness. In some wards this is proving to be difficult because between the 6th and 8th of April 2016 there were no cover for accident and emergency and high dependency unit because of the junior doctor strike therefor patients were not receiving the appropriate service and care. This is the time that hospitals had a high percentage in admissions, but even if the junior doctors were all out on a walkout strike some of them were able to be called back in if the pressure on other doctors became too
Dr. Atul Gawande, a Harvard Medical School graduate and writer for The New Yorker, phenomenally illustrates the unknown side of healthcare professions in his book, Complications: A Surgeon’s Notes on an Imperfect Science. By exploring the ethical and analytical aspects of medicine while entertaining readers with relatable anecdotes, Gawande impresses on his audience the importance of recognizing the wonders of the healthcare field, as well as the fallibility of those within it.
Even in the medical field, male doctors were dominate to the hundreds of well educated midwives. “Male physicians are easily identified in town records and even in Martha’s diary, by the title “Doctor.” No local woman can be discovered that way” (Ulrich, 1990, pg.61). Martha was a part of this demoralized group of laborers. Unfortunately for her, “in twentieth-century terms, the ability to prescribe and dispense medicine made Martha a physician, while practical knowledge of gargles, bandages, poultices and clisters, as well as willingness to give extended care, defined her as a nurse” (Ulrich, 1990, pg.58). In her diary she even portrays doctors, not midwives, as inconsequential in a few medical
The result of the Francis Report means that the NHS is at a turning point in how all Health Care is delivered, as suggested by NHS employers “28 of Robert Francis' QC's recommendations are for changes to nursing regulation or delivery”.
Diligence is a virtue. This is a theme Atul Gawande presents to the reader throughout Better: A Surgeon’s Notes on Performance. In each story, Gawande provides insight on medical studies he has previously embarked upon. For example, in “The Mop-up” the author tells us about a time when he went to India to observe the efforts to eradicate polio. Gawande explains how he followed a supervisor around and how vaccinations were performed. Additionally, in another chapter he debates on whether physicians should take part in death sentences. Throughout his adventures Gawande provides numerous enriching personal accounts of controversial events and what it is like to be a doctor; each with diligence playing a key part.
When candidates are competing for an award, a job, or an honor, they often use the qualities of their character as evidence as to why they deserve it. I certainly understand and believe in the necessity of qualifications; however, I have also always believed that having a plan of what one will do with a certain honor is an integral part of deserving it. That is why this essay is not about my previous accomplishments. This essay is a declaration of my ideas to serve as a representative of Seton Hill University by making the community, state, and country a better place for all.
Pursuing professionalisation of paramedic practice arguably goes against the general ethics of UK society since it is regarded as sign of selfishness on the side of health professionals (Campbell, 2013). Other issues within the health sector which are in need of more attention include: the administration and their role in planning, decision making, staff motivation, healthcare development, patient monitoring, providing a home-like experience for patients, continuous change in patient’s care, and overcoming obstacles towards change. These issues should be the ones occupying the minds of paramedics throughout the UK since their welfare is taken care of by councils such as the Health & Care Professions Council and Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council among others. There are few laws that seek to regulate health profession, leaving almost all issues to self-regulation by respective health professional councils as discussed later in this paper.
National Health Service (NHS) is the provider of healthcare to all citizens in England. At present many centres in the England are developing and conducting programmes to promote a multi-professional approach to working (Barr, 2002; Whittington, 2003). The NHS is steered by sequences of policies that are outlined by the Department of Health from time to time and has set up care trust which are partnerships with the NHS and the local council.

Doctors have to go through many years of studying and many more hours of practicing on people. These qualities make any doctor seem god-like to the eyes of everyday people. Doctors are trusted blindly and people are led to believe that doctors are always honest. In the story, The Use of Force by William Carlos Williams, the parents of Matilda question the tactics the doctor is using to properly diagnose the girl but trust that the doctor knows what he is doing and lets him use force anyway. These cases are seen all over the world as well. There have been many reported cases of doctors using force to allow patients to get treated. Some patients however, do not wish to be treated because of things like religion or preference or other reasons but doctors still treat them in order to save them from themselves. The power struggle creates anger and resentment from both parties and blurs the line between personal rights and saving lives. In an article written by Jessica Grose, doctors force a woman to have a C-Section because they believe it was in the baby’s best interest. However, the woman did not want to have the surgery performed. This led to the doctors threatening to sue the woman for possible child endangerment. The woman, in fear of possibly killing her child, sided with the health care providers even though personally she did not want to have the surgery performed. This
...ctors? Besides, if a hospital works like this , doctors should equip with medical ethics such as, doctor should equip with autonomy of the individual, professional justice ,beneficence to everyone and non maleficent. Otherwise, it loss of meaning of this jobs. It is believed that most of the healthcare staff are enthusiastic. However, there are so many annoying social activities staff should attend but that is not include in their working scope.(醫者心) Therefore, even healthcare staff full of conscientious however it scattered the attention or energy by the social activities. Thus the quality of health care gradually decrease.(irrational non humanized)
Medicine as a Form of Social Control This critique will examine the view that medicine is a form of social control. There are many theorists that have different opinions on this view. This critique will discuss each one and their different views. We live in a society where there is a complex division of labour and where enormous varieties of specialist healing roles are recognised.
What is a pediatrician? Pediatricians are doctors who specialize and focus in caring for babies to young adults (Career Cruising). They deal with childhood diseases and the care of infants with health and sickness (Elberts). The typical upper age limit of patients is from age twelve to age twenty-one (NetMed Pediatrics). They have to treat their patients as if he or she were going to change the world. Pediatricians complete many tasks in a day’s time. They perform physical exams and order tests that will diagnose diseases and injuries that have occurred. They advise surgery and medications and may also help patients through puberty and family problems (Career Cruising). It is their responsibility to make sure the patients are not only healthy, but also safe and happy. Some pediatricians communicate with social workers, family members, and health care workers to understand the entire situation as best as they can (Career Cruising). If the patient seems to have more personal problems, pediatricians have the opportunity to send them to other doctors like a psychiatrist for treatment. Others work as advocates by educating the community about car safety and the benefits from school breakfast (Career Cruising).
Children’s National should add more units and also extend operating days by starting Saturday operations. Adding Saturday as operating day is necessary for a more competitive advantage because this will ultimately increase number of patients; the hospital would also need to hire additional staff, the doctors however might not be happy about this, as it might cause a divide amongst the surgeons. Finally Patients re-union is also recommended, this will also help to raise money for the hospital.
Thus, there will be a gap between the number of available health care workforce and the needs of today’s patients for care. According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (2015), “hospitals with low staffing levels tend to have higher rates of poor patient outcomes like affecting labor and delivery and general medical surgical units as well as intensive care units and operating rooms.
