In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare the two main characters are Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. Both teenagers matured and changed during the play, but Juliet’s changes stood out the most. Juliet transformed in less then a week, which says she did not change much, but there is a definite difference in her personality from before she met Romeo to after she married him. There are many events in the book that support that idea. Most of which interact with her mother. Many events towards the ending of the play suggest she is very obstinate, which is quite different from the begging of the play before Juliet even thought of marriage or defying her parents and family.
In Juliet’s first scene she is talking to her Mother and the Nurse. Her Mother brought up the topic of marriage and Lord Paris. This is when we first see a young girl who has just begun to grow up. She replies with the fact that she hasn’t considered marriage yet. Most girls of her age would have been wives by now, so it was slightly uncommon that she hadn’t even thought of her marriage. Also in this scene we see in her willingness and obedience, when she does not object to her Mother’s thoughts of her marring Lord Paris soon. When her Mother asks her if she could love Paris she replies, “I’ll look to like, if looking liking move. But no more deep will I endart mine eye than your consent gives strength to make it fly.” (I, iv, 102-105) I interpreted her to mean she will try to love him, but she will not look deeper than her mother wishes. She reminds me of a mouse in a way, meek and a pushover. This scene is right before the ball.
Later when Juliet is at the ball she meets Romeo, and falls in love at first sight. Later Romeo follows her to her balcony where she confesses her love for Romeo to herself. Overhearing her, Romeo shows himself and also confesses his love for her. Taken over by her first feelings of love and lust, she defies her parents just by speaking to him in that manner. Before this, which was only about five or six hours ago, she would not have spoken to him at all, let alone that time of night. Romeo soon proposes to Juliet and she says yes.

However, the friar views on the situation is made more distinct when he marries the two and tries to help the two be together. The friar desire to put an end to the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets and believes that marriage between Romeo and Juliet will accomplish this goal. “Juliet has not had to improve; but Romeo, at first a whining lover of himself in the role of lover, passionate but not truly reaching out of himself, has much to learn” (Jorgensen 33). As the story develops, Juliet demonstrates her capability to conquer hardships as she starts to take over her own life and decided to stop living through the decisions of her parents. Because she is in love with Romeo, she is abandoned by her, mother, father, and nurse. She is nearly alone when Romeo is banished. Still, she doesn’t run back, she refuses to go back and live as her parent’s shadow.

Thomas Jefferson had no reason to believe that he was writing a document that would become so revered throughout the ages. One may confirm the Declaration’s idealistic origins by examining Carl Becker’s enduring argument that the Declaration was an American product of the doctrines of John Locke. The Declaration was composed for a specific purpose. The members of the Continental Congress were more preoccupied with handling pressing military matters and meeting with delegates in the separate colonies, who were busy drafting and debating new state constitutions. This book by Ellis also provides a general, philosophical justification for revolution based on the colonist’s growing feeling of entitlement of Lockean rights.
The Declaration of Independence, written by Thomas Jefferson in 1776, is a well-known document in American history proclaiming the separation of the United States from Great Britain. Jefferson uses the document to explain the unjust laws King George III was pressing onto the Colonists and brings them to light. The use of rhetorical strategies in the script influences the audience’s opinion towards their loyalties to the King and ends with the United States’ newly gained independence.
John F. Kennedy was depicted as a nationwide hero to many Catholics living in the U.S. during the early 1960’s. He was idolized by several Americans especially the women due to his intriguingly handsome looks, his substantial wealth, and his young aspiration. When elected, Kennedy became the youngest and only Catholic president in our nation’s great history. Though his future seemed bright and optimistic, all good things must come to an end. The assassination of President Kennedy has become known as one of biggest conspiracy’s in history and has not been proven to this very day. The audience is first introduced to Juliet in the exposition of the play. Juliet attracts the attention the Count Paris and her father (Lord Capulet) wisely says that Juliet “is yet a stranger in the world” (Act I.2.8) and should be allowed “two more summers” (Act I.2.10) to grow until she is ready for marriage. This implies that Juliet is young and has not yet matured to level where she is eligible to be married. Lord Capulet’s love for his daughter leads him to protect her from the prospective marriage until she is “ripe to be a bride” (Act I.2.11).
The purpose of the paper is to guise available variables around Emotional Intelligence and School Leadership Effectiveness. Emotions are our state of being or mood, how we feel at a particular time. Intelligence is the ability to think and reason; therefore, emotional intelligence is to be aware of one’s state of being or moods and to also be cognizant of the mood of others (Mayer et al 2007). Thus being emotionally intelligent can lead to better decision making, better managing which leads to better leadership (Blell 2011).Thorndike defined social intelligence as “the ability to understand and manage men and women, boys and girls – to act wisely in human relations”. Gardner included interpersonal and intrapersonal intelligences that are closely related to social intelligence in his theory of, multiple intelligences.
In Document B, “Think of marriage now”, Juliet tells her mother “ … no more deep will I endart mine eye / Than your consent gives strength to make it fly.” Juliet is telling Lady Capulet that she will only marry the person that her parents approve of. Juliet acts as if she will do what her parents say,which is why they do not take her seriously when Juliet says she does not want to marry Paris and force her to marry him, which drives Juliet to kill herself. Furthermore, Juliet also does not give her parents a reason to why she suddenly changed her mind about marrying paris. Juliet told her parent “ Delay this marriage for a month, a week…” When Juliet says to delay the marriage she does not tell her parents why she wanted to wait, because she did not give a valid reason her parents though she was just being difficult and thought Juliet would get over it and marry Paris. This resulted in Juliet faking her own death, which lead to Romeo and Juliet to take their own lives. Juliet is to blame because she acted as if she had no voice in the decisions that were made for her , causes her parent to overlook her opinion, Juliet also does not communicate why she does not want to marry Paris, which would have resulted in her parents to at least hear her
Juliet is shown to be immature in a opening scene where her father tells the bride-seeking Paris his daughter is not old and grown-up enough to marry. "My child is yet a stranger in the world, she hath not seen the charge of fourteen years. . ." (Lines 8-9, Scene 2, Act 1). It is also shown during the balcony scene when she agrees to marry Romeo after knowing him only a day and she is not even sure herself that Romeo wants to marry her. "If that thy bent of love be honorable, thy purpose marriage, send me word tomorrow. . . And all my fortunes at thy foot I'll lay, and follow thee my lord throughout the world" (Lines 142-143, 146-147, Scene 2, Act 2). After he marriage she is told by her nurse she is to marry Paris. In a blind fury she runs to Friar Lawrence with a knife to her body, thinking that her only option was to dye or hear a plan presented by Friar Lawrence to get her out of a second marriage. "If in thy wisdom thou canst give no help, do thou but call my resolution wise, and with this knife I'll help it presently. . .'Twixt my extremes and me this bloody knife shall play umpire. . ." (Lines 53-55, 63-64, Scene 1, Act 4).
When we think of leaders, the first thing that usually comes to mind is a person who holds significant power such as the president. While this may be true, the truth is, you do not need to be in a position of power to assume a leadership role. Everyone has the ability to become a leader. As leaders, everyone has the power to not only influence others, but inspire and motivate them as well. The purpose of this paper is to explore several leadership behaviors, specifically emotional intelligence, and how they can be applied in both my personal and professional lives. Within this paper, I will be discussing my personal definition of leadership and what leadership means to me, a self-evaluation of myself using MBTI and other leadership theories, and finally concluding with my exploration of emotional intelligence and its relation to effective leadership.
The Declaration of Independence is an important document in the history of the United States of America. The Declaration of Independence was drafted by Thomas Jefferson, who was nominated by peers such as John Adams, and was edited by the Congress to then be adopted on July 4, 1776. The goal of this document, at the time, was “to dissolve the political bands” that Britain, ruled by King George III, had on the colonies of America (Jefferson 340). Although the Declaration of Independence is a powerful document, it is important to identify the use of literary devices within, that aid in its supremacy.
Paris is talking with Capulet, and saying that Juliet’s age should not stop her father from being married off, “Younger than she are happy mothers made” (1.2.12). Paris's argument to not wait for his and Juliet’s marriage is that there are many girls who are even younger than Juliet who are married and have already started a family. Juliet’s age puts her in a place where she is expected to contribute a child. This may be why she was in such a rush to get married to Romeo. Marriage of her choosing to Romeo prevents the marriage against her will to Paris. The influence placed on Juliet by her family is itself shaped by expectations of Juliet’s age group. When Juliet tells her father she does not wish to marry Paris, her father replies harshly commenting on her reasoning being due to her age, “A whining mammot, in her fortune’s tender/To answer I’ll not wed, I cannot love,/I am too young, I pray you pardon me” (3.5.185-187). Juliet’s father lacks empathy for Juliet’s position, and so continues to hold the high expectations that are required of her because of her age. Juliet never told her father she would not wed because of her age or her inability to love, so perhaps her father is projecting his guilt as he knows it is unreasonable to expect marriage and children from her when she is still so young and innocent. Juliet’s young age affects her maturity, which consequently influence the drastic and impulsive choices she made. When the Nurse agrees with Juliet’s parents about her marrying Paris, Juliet loses the one confidant she had. She depended heavily on the Nurse’s advice, as she herself lacked such wisdom. Her lack of maturity led her to make hasty decisions-choosing death as the easier way out, “Thou and my bosom henceforth shall be twain/I’ll too the friar, to know his remedy:/If all else fail, myself have power to die”
When considering emotional intelligence in the context of leadership, emotional intelligence represents the “people skills” held by effective leaders (Riggio et al.). In understanding why emotional intelligence is critical to effective leadership, one study suggested that this is because “leaders need to understand their own emotions and the emotions of followers in order to encourage and motivate others and to encourage follower creativity. In addition, the quality of leader and follower relationships is dependent on leader emotional intelligence” (qtd. in Riggio et al.) Leaders with high emotional intelligence understand that leadership is about building people up and supporting them. By creating an inspiring environment, effective leaders encourage employees to achieve their goals. High emotional intelligence also helps leaders to regulate their emotions, which is essential when handling stressful situations. Assertive leaders use emotional intelligence to put thought behind their actions, and they understand the consequences of their behavior on others. They use their high emotional intelligence to satisfy their own needs and the needs of their employees while maintaining respect, and do not put other people down in the name of organizational
Juliet’s arranged marriage with Paris, as well as the ancient feud between Capulets and Montagues, eventually contributed to the deaths of their children. In Act 1 Scene 2, Paris asks Capulet, ‘But now, my lord, what say you to my suit?’ which shows that Capulet and Paris are discussing Juliet’s possible marriage without consulting her, perhaps implying they think she is too nave to decide on her future. They are arranging her marriage for her, which implies that men are very controlling of women’s lives, especially those of their daughters. The scene establishes how Juliet is subject to parental influence, and how she is very constrained since her father can force her to marry whoever he wants. Juliet’s status as a woman leaves her with no power or choice in the decision of whom she should marry.
To me, being a nurse is far more than just a job or even a career. In my future I plan to become a nurse and to even think about it is immeasurable to me. I can’t wait to be looked up too and to even be called a “life saver” , even though I may not save everyone just the effort I will give will mean the world to me and hopefully the families. I love helping others in need or just in general, everyone goes through a tough time and needs someone to run too. A nurse carries such an important role to many people all over the world. Not only is it an important role it’s also a huge responsibility.
