The government is working for the people, unfortunately, many people don’t see it. I am Julie De Jean with the Whole Person. We are a Center for independent living which helps people with disabilities. Every day The Whole Person help understand our clients and direct them to program which enables our clients to have control over their lives and live independently. Even Though we are seen helping the individual person with a disability become empowered and independent we utilize government programs to stabilize and promote upward mobility to the entire family unit. It is unfortunate most times when you mention government programs it invokes a kind of perception that government is wasteful and is too big. As a community partner I see first hand how government programs such as Consumer Directed Services (CDS) under Medicaid allows people with disabilities to live in their home with the assistance of a personal Care attendant to help with going to the doctor, with laundry, or with administering medication. The CDS program helps a family unit not have to bear the entire cost of in-home care. …show more content…

It is unsettling the hear and see some of our elected officials think programs like this are wasteful. I am concerned that citizens will follow the ideology that cutting programs for people with disabilities and for low earners will solve our nation's fiscal issues. If our taxes are not used to benefit our nation’s people and program intended to help our people are cut who will help our fellow citizens to pathways to a better life. I fear the responsibility of government to care for our people will be passed off and negatively affect our struggling middle
