JCPenney is a chain of American mid-range department stores that is based out of Texas that started over 100 years ago. JCPenny has been successful for most of its time up until the last three to four years. The company is trying relentlessly to overcome the lingering effects of the makeover that former CEO, Ron Johnson, had implemented in order for the company to take a new direction in hopes of increasing sales. The new CEO, Myron Ullman, has taken a close look into the markets demographic segmentation along with the income segmentation in order to attempt to return the retailer back to its old self, which is to appeal to middle-market customers. A couple issues of major concern for the company are the dissolving of Johnson’s Boutiques, the price of their products, and overall revenue.
This report explores the marketing channel problems that David Jones, a high-end Australian department store chain, is currently experiencing. Since it was founded in 1838, David Jones has expanded to the 35 stores, two warehouse outlets, and the online site that it now operates. It is Australia’s second-largest department store chain and sells a range of the finest national and international brands. After suffering from a substantial decrease in sales and profits, David Jones implemented a Future Strategic Direction Plan in 2012, which saw its successful transformation into an omni-retailer, which consistent increases in the online sales since the new channel’s establishment. Woolworths Holdings Limited offered a takeover bid in 2014 which has been accepted by David Jones under reasons to more adequately compete with international leading retailers, which raises issues of whether this is the best course of action for David Jones. After considering the advantages and disadvantages of alternative solutions, including a merging with Myer and remaining as a self-owned department store chain, it was ultimately deduced that perhaps proceeding with Woolworths takeover would provide David Jones with the most benefits in its current situation in concurrence with their future goals.

In order to hold their position as the most successful high-end retailer in the United States, Nordstrom must continue to figure out ways to improve their brand image and customer satisfaction. Nordstrom’s current business working strategy is successful but I believe there are a few ideal solutions that the organization could apply to further enhance the organization. Due to the aggressive characteristics of the fashion retail store market, it is crucial that Nordstrom preserves an aggressive advantage providing the highest level of customer support as possible.

On the one hand, Lidl’s stores are limited in range and number. As mentioned, Lidl only has 640 stores in the UK. In contrast, Tesco has over 6000 stores and Sainsbury has over 1200 stores. It is clear that the gap of geographic reach is still huge. On the other hand, big supermarkets have sufficient financial support to compete in price war. In addition, low customer loyalty is also a concern. Lidl’s first loyalty program a new online community called ‘My Lidl’, was just launched in March this year, years later than its rivals (Hobbs, 2016). Although lower prices have attracted more customers, it is difficult to maintain them as loyal buyers.
A strong upward and downward communication chain underscores the management and organizational style adopted by Trader Joe's. This means fostering a belief that the store group operates as a team and that individual opinions are valued, rather than an environment where people speak out and are either not heard or have their opinions suppressed (Workforce, 2005).
