Mallory Wollenmann Mrs. Croce AP Lang 19 April 2024 Paying Tribute Former President John F. Kennedy was described as a witty, charismatic, and courageous leader. On June 24, 1985, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum held a fundraising event. Joined by members of Kennedy’s family, President Ronald Reagan delivered an eloquent speech and helped the Kennedy Library Foundation create an endowment to help fund the library. Creating a reverential tone, Reagan achieved his purpose of paying tribute to John F. Along with the message conveying Kennedy’s heart for his country, Reagan persuaded the audience that they must be willing to do whatever it takes to build the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum. The rest of the paragraph then continues to provide evidence and commentary that both support the reasoning of Reagan’s emotional appeals and tie back to the fundraiser. This helps the audience remember the man the library is in honor of. Along with anaphora, Reagan achieves the purpose of paying tribute to JFK with imagery. In addition to the appeal to pathos, Reagan takes advantage of the rhetorical device imagery. In paragraph 10, Reagan explains, “He seemed to grasp from the beginning that life is one fast-moving train, and you have to jump abroad and hold on to your hat and relish the sweep of the wind as it rushes by. I think that's how his country remembers him, in his joy.” This creates the image of not only the literal event that is being described but also the death of JFK.
