The Chaser
In John Collier short story, “The Chaser”, is about a young man, Alan Austen who
wants his soul mate, Diana, to fall passionately in love with him. Alan is told about a love
potion that would make Diana head over heels in love. He goes sees the old man who sells
this potions, the old
man ensures that there is such a love potion, although he’s more concentrated on the “life cleaner”, a deadly potion. The overall theme of the short story is be careful for what you wish for because you may regret it, how love is deceiving in many ways and how love is meant to be natural. At the very beginning, Alan is on disbelief, he displays amazement at each potential effect that will occur at Diana after she drinks the potion “ She will care intensely. You will be her sole interest in life”( Collier,2). The old man instead of selling a love potion is selling a potion that is strong enough to create an absolute obsession, Alan is ignoring the fact that love is meant to be natural, is not supposed to be suffocating neither tricked or purchased. “How carefully she will look after you! she will never allow you to be tired, to sit in a draught, to neglect your food. If you’re an hour late, she will be terrified. She will think you’re killed, or that some siren has caught you.”( Collier, 2) Alan is desperate to get the love of his life to love him back, but what he doesn’t realize is that the potion will not only make her love him but she’ll be involved in everything in his life, in the future this may overwhelm him, realizing how this is not true love As the story progresses, the theme becomes more present because the effects of the love potion grow more stronger and doubtful, this is when the reader can contemplate the irony in this story. The old man wasn’t trying to sell the one-dollar love potion, but in reality the old man is wiser and intelligent than the young man, why? because the old man implies and even clearly establishes the fact that Alan will be back for the five thousand dollar colorless, tasteless, and undetectable Life cleaner potion. “If I did not sell love potions, I should not have mentioned the other matter to you. It is only when one is in a position to oblige that one can afford to be so confidential.”( Collier, 2) Alan desire to chase for love via trickery won’t let him see past the foreshadowing of the story, his inevitable return to buy the “life cleaner” imparting in Diana’s murder. In conclusion, this short story is about a young man who is madly in love with a young women that ungratefully, doesn’t feel the same way. Alan’s seeks a love position to make Diana’s fell in love with him, but him being blinded by the side effects he doesn’t realise that the use of the love potion will lead to the use of the life cleaner. The overall theme of the short story is be careful for what you wish for because you may regret it, how
He demonstrates his aunt’s willingness to help writing: “‘I know that things are bad between you and your mom right now, and I just want you to know that I am on your side.’” Her generosity made a great impression on Andrews. He extends this thought further when he writes “‘And in the meantime, if you ever need to get away, my house is always open to you. And to Darian, too.’” The trust his aunt placed in him influenced him hugely in his life. He continues to impress this point recording: “I was grateful but shocked. She and Mom were really close, and for Susan to go behind Mom’s back like that was huge.” He used emotional change in order to exhibit how moved he was by the support he received from his family members even if it was only one ally who was on his side from the start. This abundant amount of assistance from his aunt causes the audience to empathize by relating personal experiences from their own families to the

Elizabeth is angry that John was having an affair with Abigail. John feels that he has endured enough. He knows what he did was not right, but he demands to Elizabeth that he needed a passion that she was not giving him. John uses emotional appeal to enforce his claim. She is offended at his suggestion that it was her fault that he was cheating on her. John says that he is only
Afterwards, she understood why he hated her after she prevented him from playing the stock market when their stock would increase on stanza 3, additionally demonstrating the equity between them. Moreover, proof of their equity is further shown through their dedication. “I put on eyeliner and a concerto and make pungent observations about the great / issues of the day / Even when there’s no one here but him,” shows the wife’s efforts for the husband. The husband’s dedication is revealed on stanza 2 when she asks “If his mother and I was drowning and / he had to choose one of us to save, / He says he’d save me.” A relationship deprived of equity would be illustrated in “The Chaser”. The love potion described by John Collier will cause the drinker to “want to know all you do” (Page 200) and “want to be everything to you” (Page 200). “Then the customers come back, later in life, when they are better off, and want more expensive things” (Page 201) imply many of his customer’s return for the poison. This suggests that many of the relationships will be unable to develop beyond a certain point after buying the “love

This love potion, that was intended to be shared between Iseult and King Mark on their wedding night, again shows the power that women possessed.
Cameron manipulates Australia’s fear of child abduction and couples it with suburban paranoia to create a thrilling, tense play that makes the audience question the identity of both Australia and their innermost selves by using only two actors to play multiple roles. Dawn states “I am not a real person yet. But I’m going to become one” The play uses the structure of a fairy tale to create a story-like form, using Absurdist themes to heighten the audience’s reactions and levels of engagement. This is also done with the use of silence throughout the play to either create or expose tension. From the very beginning of the play, the character of Ray asks his distraught wife Sylvie for the kiss that never comes. “These nights are getting colder, I swear… Do I get a kiss?” this exposes the cracks within their relationship and exposes the thick layer of tension that exists in that

I think the sister to this song, "Love Who You Love", is a good highlight of desires for the entire cast. Alfie wants to love Robbie, Adele wants to love John, and Lily wants to love Mr. Carney. All of these loves are realized, in some form or fashion, except for Alfie 's. It leaves a sense of longing in the audience as they share Alfie 's melancholy desire, hoping that it will be resolved. The world around him seems to have found love, but Alfie himself cannot.
Al plays an unbelievably sympathetic role. He’s portrays the “perfect” boyfriend. He’s very cute, sensitive, caring and he’ll do just about anything for Imogen. Al is an aspiring chef. He has a good family background. Both of his parents are very loving and extremely supportive of his goal for being a chef. They also love Imogen.
In the common world, the newfound love is believed to change people’s lives by giving them new perspective of the world – often beneficial but also often negative. In one of the most beloved work of Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Oberon, the king of the fairies, feel jealous of prideful minded Titania, the queen of the fairies, for which Oberon uses a magic love potion to hoodwink Titania into falling in love with a donkey-headed man. Similarly, in Hitchcock’s movie Vertigo, Scottie’s vertigo results him to be used as a victim for the cunning plan of Elster, Scottie’s old friend, for killing Elster’s wife. Nevertheless, Scottie ends up falling in love with Judy, a woman who disguises herself as Elster’s wife, which prevents Scottie
Even for the briefest moment, Rosalind regretted to dress up like a man. But luckily, using her quick-wit, in Act 3 Scene 3, she cunningly persuaded Orlando into love-counselling by letting him pretend to woo her. She states that love is merely madness and deserves to be whipped. Then she intelligently said about the marks of a love which Orlando did not have.
