One of his big mistakes was the scandal of the pacific railway. The Pacific Scandal was a political scandal in Canada involving allegations of bribes being accepted by 150 members of the Conservative members in the attempts of interests to influence the bidding for a national rail contract.he also made a very controversial decision to approve the execution if the first nations metis leader Louis-riel. There were allegations that john.a.macdonald and Louis-riel were enemies but killing someone like that is not right. It was also said that john had a very bad temper, drank heavily and was allegedly racist. Even though mr.macdonald had many mistakes and bad qualities he still has many good qualities. He was very devoted to his family and his disabled daughter and he was determined to make the french Canadians work with the English to make an amazing nation. He was really tenacious, competitive, spontaneous and very empathetic. Some great achievements he had were promoting the tax of the national policy, building the pacific railway (even if there were scandals) and his great speeches that were sometimes 5 hours
Tommy Douglas was a remarkable Canadian whose contributions have helped to shape our nation. During his forty two years in politics, Tommy Douglas proved himself to be an outstanding Canadian leader. He is largely responsible for our central banking, old age pensions, unemployment insurance, and our universal medicare. Though he never became Prime Minister, he is highly regarded by the general public. Tommy Douglas was one of the greatest Canadians that ever lived.
Mackenzie King was the longest serving Prime Minister of Canada (Neatby, 2005). For many King was a great and effective Prime Minister. But for others, he was ineffective due to his “5 cent speech”, racist behavior and lastly for his strong spiritual beliefs. Therefore this makes William Lyon Mackenzie King to be an ineffective Prime Minister of Canada from the years 1921-1929.
Known as one of one of the founding fathers of Canada, Sir John A. Macdonald helped shape our country into what it is today. During the early 1800s, significant people and events aided the development and growth of Canada. Born on January 11, 1815, Macdonald worked tirelessly to join the provinces of Canada together into one country. He was the first prime minister of Canada, fought for confederation and will continue to be remembered for his contribution to Canadian history. Sir John A. Macdonald is significant to Canadian history because he created the North West Mounted Police, initiated the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway, and helped Canada achieve confederation and come together as a country.
Many individuals appear to have honourable intentions but often their objectives are flawed. John Strachan lived through and influenced many key events of Canadian history. He was a highly esteemed teacher of wealthy Loyalist children, a pastoral leader during the War of 1812, a supporter of education, a member of the government, he played a prime role in the Rebellions of 1837 and he eventually rose to become the first Bishop of Toronto. John Strachan had a highly Loyalist view towards the governing of Upper Canada; he was especially faithful to the betterment of the Church of England. Strachan was in favour of a purely British Upper Canada or at least one run according to British standards. Although Strachan believed that the best way was the British way, many individuals in Upper Canada disagreed. Strachan's attempts to monopolize all opportunities in favour of the British caused public uproar and debate. His controversial role in government was regarded by some as unnecessary and ungodly since he was a supposed man of God. His manipulation of events were protested but usually accepted; his skills of influencing were uncontested. John Strachan used his powerful status to negatively influence Upper Canadian society. John Strachan's harmful intentions are evident in his supporting of the monopolization of the clergy reserves, controlling of non-British immigration, lobbying strictly for Anglican education in schools, his manipulation of the government and his poor reputation amongst the public.
William Lyon Mackenzie King was born in Kitchener, Ontario on December 17, 1874. His father was an unsuccessful lawyer who was not well off but who continuously provided for his family by living above his means. Mackenzie King’s mother was the daughter of William Lyon Mackenzie who was a leader of the Rebellion of 1837 which was fighting for responsible government. King’s mother continuously reminded her children of the trials her father had gone through and pushed them to continue...
He was unable to attend university as a result of the financial problems within his family; however, that did not stop him from achieving his goal. At the age of fifteen, Sir John A. Macdonald entered a law office as a junior and as a result of his perseverance and dexterous personality, he was called to the bar in 1836. He then began his law practice with extensive success as a commercial lawyer in Toronto and Kingston. His commendable efforts as a lawyer were well recognized by many and he became extensively popular and was regarded as a positive leader that could make a difference. By 1844, he was elected to represent Kingston in the Legislative Assembly of Canada.
John A. Macdonald became well known for the way he treated people. He was kind
The Conservatives, still lead by John A. Macdonald, were re-elected in 1879 for economic reasons that we shall discuss in the next lecture. They came to an agreement in 1880 with a Montreal based group to build a transcontinental railway from Montreal to Vancouver by 1891 in exchange for the following subsidies.
William Lyon Mackenzie King was born in Berlin (later renamed Kitchener), Ontario in 1874. His father was a lawyer and his maternal grandfather was William Lyon Mackenzie, leader of the 1837 Rebellion in Upper Canada. From an early age, King identified with his grandfather, an association that influenced him throughout his political life.
John Alexander Macdonald was born in Glasgow, Scotland on January 11, 1815. His family immigrated to Canada (Kingston, Ontario) in 1820, Macdonald was five years old at the time. In 1829 Macdonald ended his schooling, his parents could not afford to send him to university. Macdonald would later say that if he had went to university he would have ended up in literature, not politics. (Waite, John, 7-10)
He may have truly believed that indigenous people were savages at the time. Other than the belligerent view of Macdonald, he had also contributed a great amount to the country of Canada. “He played a key role in the confederation”,which created the independent country of Canada. Due to the confederation, he was also named Prime Minister which resulted in many positive things for Canadian society. One of the things that he accomplished was the Canadian Pacific Railway. Macdonald was a key part of the creation of the long and expensive project as “he agreed to introduce legislation for the further financial support of the railway”. Due to his dedication, he united different parts of Canada and also allowed people to begin living on the west coast of Canada. Other than providing Canadians with nationwide transportation, Macdonald was also able to offer the country national protection by creating the North-West Mounted Police, later renamed Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Also, while Indigenous people were originally given the ability to vote in 1960, Macdonald proposed this nearly 60 years earlier. Along with pushing for Indigenous voting rights, “In the 1880s, Macdonald became ‘the first national leader in the world to attempt to grant women the vote,’ wrote biographer Richard
William Lyon Mackenzie King was one of the greatest prime ministers in Canada, although he did not give a fascinating speech or had an exciting image and supported few radical policies . King’s opinions were very strong and would not be changed no matter what. No one could influence King and this was shown through his leadership during the Great Depression and the election in 1930.
The importance of this controversy is tremendous. Especially because he was the first prime minister of Canada, I feel as if he set an example for the future leaders and important people of Canada. The Impacts his actions left on people regardless of race were, and still are huge. Without John A, Canada would not be a thing, or at least be like it is today. He led the nation to confederation, and did wonderful things for the country, not all the citizens, and not in the most humane of ways. John had a vision for Canada: a pure country, and his definition of pure would be white (caucasian). Going by racial standard back in the 1800’s,
In my opinion, being a good leader firstly he should be able to take full advantage of favorable circumstance, able to rule the country under a chaotic situation. Besides he made attractive promises to gain popular support, skilled in using of propaganda, amoral. Moreover he should have the organizational ability and has the ambition to make his country powerful in the world. In addition, he could use his words to twist and manipulate the minds of people into believing that what he was saying. Using this power, he could get people to do anything for him, which prove his amorality. He should be skillful in carry out successful policy to bring the country to economic prospect, since economy is very important to a country.
What makes a good leader? What makes a good leader is having the experience, knowledge, and skills to undertake the tasks and responsibilities.A leader would work toward their goals and succeed. There are many different characteristics to become a leader “Leadership is the art of leading others to deliberately create a result that wouldn’t have happened otherwise” (Search Inside Yourself). This is a great definition of being a leader and how they should rule. Some leaders can either have all or only some qualities to become a good leader.
