Leader- They make decisions or act as the funnel for the decisions of higher authorities. At the beginning of the movie when Joe Clark entered Eastside High School, as the principal, he made a lot of decisions on how the school would be cleaned up, run, and what punishments would be given out. A specific example of this is when Joe Clark made all the students learn the school song, so if they got in trouble for something they would have to sing it.
Crisis Manager- When something happens a teacher cannot handle, the principal is fully briefed about the crises, real or potential, and how to deal with them effectively. At the beginning, the entire school was a crisis. When Kid Ray got in a fight with a student, who was previously expelled, Joe

Clark came in and ended a fight, that would have resulted in Kid Ray’s death or a Kid Ray having a life threatening injury, because the former student had a knife. This then lead to Joe Clark chaining the doors locked, so other students could not get back in and harm those at the school. Judge- Makes decisions about new teacher’s qualifications to teach in school, decides whether their performance merits a rehire, and they can write recommendations for or against teachers.
When the choir director, Mrs. Elliot, would not listen to Joe Clark’s directions about teaching all the students at Eastside High the school song, he suspended her. As well as Mr. Darnell, the football coach, but he gave Mr. Darnell a second chance because of his commitment to Eastside High School.
Buffer- They are the in between man between parents and teachers, students and teachers, and the higher authorities and teachers. Joe Clark acted as a buffer between the state and the teachers. Mr. Clark was told that if they did not get up to 75% of Eastside students passing the basic skills test in one year, then the state would take over. He revealed that information to the teachers and helped them change the school, so they could accomplish that goal or 75% of their students or more passing the basic skills test.
Sacrificial Lamb- If the community, the teachers, or the school board becomes dissatisfied with what is happening in a particular school, the school’s principal is vulnerable and receives the blame, and can be removed because of this. When the fire chief caught Joe Clark for chaining the doors locked, he was the one who was sent to prison and had to deal with the consequences of breaking the fire code. He was also almost removed from his job because of that
incident.
The superintendent and principal are stymied in their efforts to reach a compromise as Mrs. Durnitz refuses to change her position that the policy must be followed to the letter. She appealed to the teachers’ association for support when it appeared that the administration and board might not uphold her position. The local newspap...
The mentality of the school was to help the popular kids succeed. Joe had fallen through the cracks for 2 years and kept trying to reach out for help but was ignored. As I examine his circumstances I wonder how things could have been different. If he had stayed on the football team, would he had received the help he needed or would the teachers just of given his good grades to keep playing? I believe the former is more likely. The teacher-students relationships were inappropriate and negative for the students. The students were not measured on their learning merit but on their popularity. The sad reality is the failure of the education system that forced a child with a learning disability to repeat the same grade almost 3 times. The teachers have the responsibility to develop their students into success individuals even if the students are disabled.
Introduction According to the Oxford Dictionary, a leader is defined as “the person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country” (Oxford Dictionaries, 2013). Though there is a definition for what a leader is, people still have different ideas about what a leader should be and how he or she should act. There has never been a concrete idea of what a leader is; the only thing we know is that this person is the one in charge of the unit. We look at characteristics of those people we see as leaders and use those attributes to compare other people to see if they are able to be as good as, or even better than, those aforementioned leaders. We have to keep in mind that in different situations, leaders must do different tasks which indicates the need for different qualities.
A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. When I came on to the staff to Pioneer, there was only one resident assistant that was returning, This was Alli Ovits. She shows how us how do our job and how to do it well. She was always there for us with advice or just someone to listen to us. Alli Ovits is Pioneer Hall.
Boone faces the challenge of being accepted by the community, encouraging them to work together rather than judging and persecuting one another. At that time in Alexandria, Virginia there was an active atmosphere of racial tension within the community between both the African American and Caucasian population. Boone, a black coach, faces the challenge of taking on a new position as head coach of the T.C Williams High School football team. This is fraught with conflict and peril however due to the opposition of those that do not and will not accept the integration of black and white students into mixed race schools. In a move by the school board coach Boone is now unknowingly threatened by the loss of his job if The Titans loose a match. If The Titans are to loose a match Coach Boone will not only loose his job, both himself and the community will loose the hope of ever having this system of integration work. Boone in an effort to be accepted by the community uses his work with the football team to support the system of integration by emphasizing that he is in fact a valued ...
Though the stories may seem “out of place” at first transitioning to the present and past, the style shows how the narrator has learned from his experiences. When the narrator mentions the founder of his school, Mr. Norton, a wealthy and intelligent man, the author praises him as if he were a god. He explains how Mr. Norton’s opening the school affected the entire Negro race in a positive way. Giving them opportunities to better themselves and show they are just as capable as any other.
Leaders, an individual that people look up to for direction, inspiration, and guidance in life. Passion, influential, reliability, a vision, etc. These traits along with many more, are the things that make leaders great and successful. Everyone has different personality traits that make us capable of being leaders in this world and I learned that throughout this course. Everyone is different, whether good or bad, ethical or unethical, everyone has a leadership style all their own. “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader (John Quincy Adams).”
“Adam Forsett is the name, and working for a crappy high school is indeed my shame” He screamed inside of his car as the windows began to fog up. He left his car with a hurry to hide his lunch in the back of the tiny refrigerator, slamming his door shut. He straightened his tie and fixed the hair piece on top of his head. As Mr.forsett gazed up at the tiny rectangular school that pays him so much, that he lives in a motel eating cotton candy every single night.
Joe uses extreme tactics to help the students to learn. Joe starts off his first day by expelling all of the drug dealers and users without the consent of the board of education. This shows that joe will go to any means for his school to succeed in their testing. Joe wants to make sure his kids don't go off the rails with drugs and bad influences. Secondly, joe would suspend students who did not know the school song. Joe wanted to build some school spirit within his students. Joe also says he will suspend them to offer up motivation for the students. Finally, Joe makes his staff stay on sundays for the same pay to help the students learn. Joe makes his teachers give up their personal lives to help his students succeed. Also this causes some of the teachers to dislike Joe.
Just as restorative justice requires a paradigm shift for those in the legal field and the concept of paradox management requires a paradigm shift for businesses, using third party neutrals will require school administrators to think about conflict management differently. While the text emphasized the complex nature of school administrators' responsibilities (Gorton & Alston, 2012, pp. 3-4) and the surety of change in education (p. 188), it also discussed the factors which inhibit change (pp. 196-197, pp. 200-201). Thus this student feels better equipped to address those concerns proactively when offering services to local school districts.
A leader is described as a person who guides others and has authority and influence over others. They work to influence others into meeting certain goals. There is no right or wrong definition of a leader and there is no recipe that ensures effective leadership. Successful leaders have a good balance of vision, influence, and power. Leaders gain their authority from their ability to influence others to get the work done; because of this, anyone has the potential to be a leader. (Finkelman. 2012, p15)
The Webster Dictionary defines leadership as an office or position, the capacity to lead, the act or an instance of leading (Merriam-Webster, 2011). Leader is defined as; a person who directs a military force or unit, a person who has commanding authority or influence (Merriam-Webster, 2011). The Army defines leadership as the process of influencing people by providing purpose, direction, and motivation while operating to accomplish the mission and improving the organization. (Department of the Army, 2006 pg 1-2)
...; teachers would seek out each other to improve classroom instruction and curriculum; and crises would happen when it is most convenient. Unfortunately, a perfect world does not exist. Events times overlap, student problems arise, teachers stumble, and rarely do any of these things happen when it is convenient. Therefore, it is imperative for a great leader to set their priorities in a way that will help them handle whatever may come their way.
What is a leader? When thinking of this question I feel like you have to really know what it means to be a leader. Becoming the kind of leader that people would follow voluntarily; even if you had no title or position. –Brian Tracy. No one is born a leader, leaderships skills come from life experiences, education and employment. Everyone grows into a leader and then afterwards grow into a leadership style that will eventually begin to shape and inspire other leaders. Having a title or high above power does not make you a leader. Inspiring and providing great communication, confidence, advice, laughs, knowledge, honesty and reality. Those great skills help you become a great leader. Even with these great leadership skills, there are
Many people believe that leadership is simply being the first, biggest or most powerful. Leadership in organizations has a different and more meaningful definition. A leader is someone who sets direction in an effort or task and influences or motivates people to follow that direction. The power point presentation explains leadership is the influence that particular individuals exert on the goal achievement of others in an organizational context.
