Jim Elliot was an American missionary who became a hero of faith because of his missions in Ecuador, his famous quotes and teaching, and his commitment to sharing the gospel. One of his most famous quotes is “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose” (Elliot 1). In this quote he is saying that a man is no fool if he shares the gospel instead of keeping it to himself, and gains the unending love of Jesus, which he cannot lose. Another quote is “Let not our longing slay the appetite of our living” (Elliot 1). This quote is saying that everyone shall not determine the fullness of your length by the length of it. If a man lives a short life, but it is full of being a witness for God, it is a full and satisfying life. One quote that represents him is “Oh the fullness, pleasure, sheer excitement of knowing God on earth” (Elliot 1). Jim Elliot was passionate about knowing God. No matter how hard his life might be he is still grateful and excited to know God. Another one of his most famous quotes is “When it comes time to die, make sure that all you have to do is die” (Elliot 1). He is saying here that when you are going to die, make sure you have done everything you needed to do in your walk with God. Jim succeeds in this because he gave his life for the gospel so he is favored in God’s eyes. All of these quotes helped Elliot in his teaching and some of these represent him as a hero of

One of the most prominent themes is the idea that the devil is responsible for sin. The imagery and symbols found throughout the essay build upon this theme. When Edwards says: “You are ten thousand times more abominable in His eyes than the most hateful serpent is in ours” (26), he wants the audience to understand that by sinning, you are doing the devils work. Another theme that is present in the sermon is God’s power and grace, which Edward uses to give the audience one glimpse of hope at the end of the sermon. By stating that “you have an extraordinary opportunity…Christ has thrown the door of mercy wide open” (33), he gives the audience more reason to convert back to God.
Jim Elliot (Phillip James “Jim” Elliot) was a martyr missionary who had major influence to the Auca tribe of Ecuador. Although he was killed before he could even have any direct interaction with the Indians, the results of his ministries and efforts were significant. He gave up his life for the purpose of evangelizing the savage Auca Indians, leaving his two children and wife behind.
"This is the Hour of Decision with Billy Graham, coming to you from Minneapolis Minnesota" Billy Graham, has preached to more than 210 million people through a live audience, more than anyone else in history. Not only that, but Mr. Graham has reached millions more through live televison, video and film. This has led Billy to be on the "Ten Most Admired Men in the World" from the Gallup Poll since 1955 a total of thirty-nine times. This includes thirty-two consecutive more than any other individual in the world, placing him as the most popular American for about forty years. This essay is going to talk about Graham's personal life, and what kind of family he grew up in and im also going to talk in detail about how he became an evangelist, because I feel it is very important yet interesting. His accomplishments in the fifties are uncomparable, so I will be including a considerable amount of information concerning that topic. Finally I will be talking about his personal achievements, books written, and how he has been a companion to some of the American Presidents. William Franklin Graham Jr. was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on November 17, 1918. Graham was raised on a dairy farm by William Franklin (deceased 1962) and Morrow Coffey Graham (deceased 1981). In 1943 he married his wife Ruth McCue Bell, and had four children Virginia 1945, Anne Morrow 1948, Ruth Bell 1950, William Franklin, Jr. 1952, and Nelson Edman 1958. At age eighty, he keeps fit by swimming, playing with is nineteen grand children, and from aerobic walking, in the mountains of North Carolina, where he currently lives. (Billy Graham Best Sellers, 1999) Billy Graham told Time Magazine in one article about his life before becoming a preacher. "I lived on a farm. The only difference was I had to get up early in the morning and go milk cows. When I came back from school that day, I had to milk those same cows. There were about twenty cows I had to milk. By hand. That was before they had those machines. I loved being a farmer. But God called me to this work that I'm in now. I knew it was God calling. I said, "Yes. I will follow what God wants me to do." And so I went to two or three schools to get education.
...main a widely respected evangelical preacher for more than 50 years because he avoided misinterpretations of the bible and financial scandals (Hall). What will count most to the lives that Billy Graham effected, will be the day those people die. Graham has led to eternal life that Jesus gave us. Those people will no longer perish but join Graham in Heaven one day.
Jim Jones was the notorious cult leader of the Peoples Temple. Jones was born on May 13, 1931 in Crete, Indiana. He was a self-appointed pastor from a church in the Midwest. Jim had been popular for always wearing dark glasses, black suits and slicked-back hair, which made a splendid impression on the pulpit of the churches he had preached at or had been to. He then, in the mid-1960s, moved his congregation to California to, what he had wished, avoid the start of a nuclear war. Then, in 1974, he moved his people to Guyana after he was faced with financial abuses, criticism, and church beatings.
“When a brave man takes a stand, the spines of others are often stiffened.” Billy Graham was that person, when he stood up and spoke, people sat still and listened. Billy Graham is one of the greatest evangelists who ever lived and he has impacted millions with a simple message of God’s truth.
In recent decades, violent crimes in the United States of America have been on a steady decline, however, the number of people in the United States under some form of correctional control is reaching towering heights and reaching record proportions. In the last thirty years, the incarceration rates in the United States has skyrocketed; the numbers roughly quadrupled from around five hundred thousand to more than 2 million people. (NAACP)In a speech on criminal justice at Columbia University, Hillary Clinton notes that, “It’s a stark fact that the United States has less than five percent of the world’s population, yet we have almost 25 percent of the world’s total prison population. The numbers today are much higher than they were 30, 40
Grant Wacker’s biography America’s Pastor is a superb breakdown of the many aspects of the life of Billy Graham. Unlike other biographies, Wacker examines the world-renowned evangelist from the perspective of Graham’s multiple individualities. In his book, Wacker looks at Graham as a preacher, icon, southerner, entrepreneur, architect, pilgrim, pastor, and patriarch. It is through these distinctions that the author provides the reader with a purpose for his writing. As an explanation of some of his selected points of view, Wacker writes: “As ‘Preacher,’ he articulated a traditional evangelical theology but presented it in increasingly appealing ways…As ‘Entrepreneur,’ he built from the ground up a crusade structure and organization of remarkable

The article shares some advantages and disadvantages that the earlier missionaries had to cope with during the early stages of Christianity in the Southern Pacific and other parts of the World. With the assistance of the Holy Spirit and the power of the gospel, the missionaries became very successful. I will take you in a journey through three societies and their contribution. From there we can see and observe how these three societies linked into each other. I will be focusing on the pioneer society, the evangelical society, and the ecumenical society.
Jim Elliot was a Christian missionary to the Huaorani people in Ecuador. Elliot traveled with four other of his best friends who were called by God to evangelize. The Huaorani had virtually no contact with the civilized world, but what was known concerning them was that they were terribly hostile. Even still, Jim Elliot and his friends followed God's calling and in spite of the danger went to the Huaorani. At their arrival Jim Elliot and his friends were speared to death by the Huaorani. Jim Elliot today is esteemed as a modern hero of the faith. This truly inspiring story of a man who gave his life for the gospel, elicits to question a common maltreatment of a phrase that I believe needs to change in contemporary Christian culture. “You are
Maya Angelou once said “I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people”. Sam Houston showed the meaning of that quote in every action. Whether it was telling people to escape the alamo wanting friendship with the native Americans , or going against slavery he was filled with courage, and integrity for doing what he knows is right. He was filled with greatly needed determination that helped him get through everything he did. Houston believed in the act of heroism, and taking chances for the things you are strongly passionate for.
In my own life I have been impacted by Billy Graham; several years ago I began to see how important integrity is – at that time I committed never to ride alone in a car with a girl. Although I was unaware of the “Modesto Manifesto” at the time, I knew that Graham refused to be alone with any woman other than his wife, and his vow helped to influence mine. Graham’s dedication to having all the world hearing the Gospel likewise influenced me to take the Gospel to the city of Rochester. Now, learning more about Graham and how he did ministry, I see where I could change in multiple ways: being more tolerant of all denominations,
