There have been many reports of serial killings across the globe. These sort of things are revolting and are disturbing to the normal person. But have you ever wondered why people do these despicable acts? What prompts these savage slaughters? Most people have wondered that very thing. There are even popular television shows based on this very topic. Well let me show you the inner workings that make these people tick.

There are many motivations involved in serial killings such as the fear of rejection, power, and perfection. Most serial killer tend to be intensely afraid of rejection and are very insecure. They try not to cultivate a relationship with their intended victim so as to avoid the possibility of being abandoned, humiliated, or exposed. There are many serial killers who engage in intercourse - the ultimate form of intimacy - with their victims, and many times also with the corpse. In doing this there is no risk of rejection. Serial killers also find satisfaction in prolonging the suffering of their victims, giving them the feeling of power over the victim. In doing this the get to decide if and how the victim will either live or die.

Some killers

want to “improve” something. They frequently view a category of people, like women or prostitutes, as “unclean”, and therefore think that by removing them they are, in effect, improving the world. Other times they believe that killing their victim in some sort of ritualistic manner redeems them of their transgressions. In cases like this the killer feels that he is a higher being and the victim is “chosen” and should be thankful. They are often enraged by the victim’s ungratefulness.

Serial killers have the intense need to kill over and over again for the very simple reason that they are addicted to the feelings that they get when they do. They constantly rationalize their actions to the point where they see nothing wrong with what they’re doing and therefore feel that there is no need to stop. They know exactly what they are doing and the consequences of these actions. Though they know the difference between right and wrong, they are amoral and do not care and feel no guilt. A lot of the time they will objectify people and treat them as though they were objects. They don’t know how to feel sympathy themselves, due to their psychopathic nature, but they know how to mimic it by watching others.

Psychopaths tend to know how to avoid getting caught. Most psychopaths, including serial killers, tend to be proficient in hiding their true intents and rage behind what is called the “mask of sanity,” a charismatic, civilized front. They seem very charming and persuasive but it is only an act to manipulate their prey and lure them into their trap.

Many serial killers were physically or emotionally abused by their parents when they were children and some were adopted. “Serial murderers are frequently found to have unusual or unnatural relationships with their mothers,” observes Steven Egger in his book The Killers Among Us. Childhood abuse isn’t the sole excuse for serial killers, but it is an undeniable factor of many of their backgrounds. As children, they often set fires, torture animals, and wet their beds. Some are even incredibly smart and show great potential as successful professionals. They are also riveted by authorities, including police. Many have tried to become part of police themselves and were rejected, worked as security guards, or served in the military.

He was a pretty happy child overall until he had to have a minor surgery to correct a double hernia when he was 6 years old. The surgery seemed to affect him. Dahmer’s father was very consumed in his own things and his mother also suffered with severe psychological problems. As his mother’s disease got worse the conflicts within his family escalated. He felt guilty of her sickness and thought that he was the main cause of all the problems in the family. When he was a teenager his parents’ divorce and the psychological stresses that came from it may have been the tipping point that turned his thoughts about necrophilia and murder into action. In his life he killed many males which involved drugging, raping, beating, dismembering, photographing, and eating

them.

What is probably the scariest part of it all is that, like normal people, they are often married, have children, and work. They could be someone from our everyday life.
