Born Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer on May 21, 1960. He was the first of two sons to Joyce Dahmer and Lionel Dahmer. His mother worked as a teletype machine instructor while his father was a student at Marquette University. He was studying to achieve his degree in Chemistry. As Jeffrey entered into first grade his mother spent more and more time recovering from weakness. His father was still studying at the university which took up most of his time but when his father was home, it was his mother who demanded Lionel's attention the most. She wanted his attention so bad that she went as far as to attempted suicide with some pills which she had become addicted to before she was pregnant. It has been said that she had been taking the pills while she was …show more content…
pregnant with Jeffrey. Thus, the attention a young child needs, Jeffrey did not get. At school, he was viewed as quiet and timid by his peers and teachers. One teacher noting that she sensed that Jeffrey felt neglected. Though he was quiet, he did have a few friends. Those friends later on recall him having a fascination with insects and then would later ask those friends to accompany him while he went to find animal carcasses. He would dismember these animals and sometimes store some of the parts in jars. His explanation for doing so was that he was curious as to how animals fit together. This fascination is believed to have started as early as four years old when he watched Lionel remove the remains of a dead animal from underneath their house. Lionel has stated that his son was oddly thrilled with this. When Jeffrey was six years old, his mother gave birth to his younger whom he got to choose the name of. He chose David. That same year his father achieved his chemistry degree and landed a job as a analytical chemist. As early as the age of eight, Jeffrey inquired from his dad how to cleanse the bones of animals. Lionel showed his son how to properly clean and sometimes preserve animal bones. Once he got to high school, his peers viewed him as an outcast. He was often seen sneaking beer and spirits into school inside one of his jackets. He was known to start drinking as early as before school and it would continue throughout the course of the day. When one peer confronted him about why he drank, his response was that it was his medicine. Even so, his teachers saw him as highly intelligent even though he only achieved average grades. Many noted that this was due to apathy. He was apart of the tennis team for a short time as well as the band. As he reached puberty age, he discovered that he was in fact homosexual.
He did have one short lived relationship but nothing ever come of it. He began to have fantasies that involved dominance and control. Those began to become intertwined with his dissection obsessed. He devised a plan to take a jogger that always ran past his house and use his body sexually while he was unconscious. Fortunately, the jogger did not run his usual route on the day Jeffrey wanted to act upon his plan. Though he never tried to attack him again, this was later said by Dahmer that this was his first plan to attack another human …show more content…
being. Despite Dahmer being known as a loner, he also became known to his peers as a class clown. Acting out pranks to amuse other classmates to make them laugh and other times it was just to get attention. By 1977, his grades had declined drastically mostly do to his drinking and his lack of desire for school. To help, his parents hired a private tutor in the same year that they decided to start counseling to try and save their marriage. Neither were successful and by 1978 they had decided on divorce. This pushed Jeffrey even further away. As his parents fought he decided he was going to move out just a few weeks before he was set to graduate high school. After being caught in the school parking lot drinking a few cans of beer by a teacher, he explains that he's experiencing a lot of problems at home, and that the school counselor was aware of them. Soon after, his mother moved off to Wisconsin with Jeffrey's younger brother. With his dad at the motel down the street, and his mother out of the house, he had the family home to himself again. So he moved back there and graduated high school. Him being alone for basically the first time in his life, I believe, is where it all changed for him. Crimes Three short weeks after graduating high school, Dahmer commits his first murder. June 18, 1978 he picked up a hitchhiker named Steven Hicks. He told him that they could go back to his house and drink. After a while of drinking, Steven said he was going to leave and Jeffrey had other plans. He hit him with a 10 pound dumbbell. That rendered him unconscious so Jeffrey strangled him to death then proceeded to masturbate over the naked, dead body. The next day, he dissected the body and buried the remains in a shallow grave to only come back several weeks later, unearth the remains and removing the flesh from the bones in acid. He then crushed the bones and scattered them behind the family home. Shortly after his first murder his father came home with his new fiancé and Jeffrey enrolled in college at Ohio State University. He went there for one semester due to his drinking taking precedent over his studies. When he returned home his father insisted he enlist in the army and he did so. He was sworn in on December on 1978 and was posted to Germany. He served as a combat medic while there. Though his drinking persisted. Because of the drinking he was later deemed unsuitable and in 1981 was discharged. It is noted that while he was in the army that he wasn’t associated with any of the murders that happened in Germany. He returned to the family home where his father and new wife were living.
Upon his return, he exhumed Steven's remains to pulverize the bones and scatter the pieces even more widely behind the home. Shortly after his return he continued his drinking and was arrested for drunk and disorderly conduct. His father then decided a change of scenery he figured it would do him some good so he sent Jeffrey to live with his grandmother in Wisconsin. At first, this arrangement worked out well for him. He was attending church and even found a job as a phlebotomist. While employed here, he was arrested for indecent exposure for showing himself to 25 women and children. He was convicted in 1982, and ordered to pay a fine plus court cost. He was then laid off from his job and remained jobless for a couple years. Living off of whatever money his grandmother provided him. Finally, in 1985 he was hired by the Milwaukee Ambrosia Chocolate Factory as a mixer. Shortly after he was a the library for a reading and had another guy throw himself at him and offer him sexual favors. Dahmer denied him but this is believed to be what stirred up the thoughts of control over guys again in his mind. He then started frequenting the guy bars of Milwaukee. While he was enjoying himself going to the bars and bathhouses, he would get frustrated with his partners because they were moving while they preformed the sex acts on
him. It was after this he started using sleeping pills in 1986 on his partners so they would be unconscious while he made sexual uses of their bodies. He did this to about 12 or so victims until the bathhouses began to catch on to him. Rather that he was doing something wrong so his memberships were revoked. That is when he started using hotel rooms to take his victims too. Not too long after this, he started to get bored with the victims just being unconscious so he read in the newspaper that an 18-year-old was to be laid to rest. He devised a plan to exhume the coffin to take the fresh corpse. Once he began to dig the dirt up he realized this was too hard and decided against the plan. That same year he was arrested for masturbating in front of two young boys close to the Kinnicknnic River. This was the second time he was charged with indecent exposure though he later recanted his story and was convicted of the lesser charge of disorderly conduct. He again received one year probation along with counseling. This kept him out of trouble for that year but just a couple months after his probation was up he would take his second victim Steven Tuomi. Jeffrey met Steven at a gay bar and then they went back to a hotel room to continue the drinking. The next morning he awoke to find Stevens body lifeless underneath him. He later stated that he had no recollection of killing him. He only had intended to drug him and have intercourse with him while he was unconscious. He then packed up his lifeless body in a suitcase and took it back to his grandmothers house where he had sex with the body. He then waited w few days before he dismembered the body and then proceeded to use the techniques his father had taught him to remove the skin from the bones. Stevens remains were never to be found.
He was living in Miami Beach at the time Adam was murdered, and two eyewitnesses placed him at the shopping mall on the day Adam was abducted. One of the witnesses claimed to have seen a strange man walking into the toy department where Adam was abducted. The other said that he saw a young, blond man with a protruding chin throw a struggling child into a blue van and sped off. Both witnesses recognized the man they had seen as Dahmer when pictures of him were released in the newspapers after his arrest. Reports showed that the delivery shop where he worked had a blue van at the time. He preyed on young men and boys (the youngest being eight years older than Adam), and his modus operandi included severing his victims’ heads. When interviewed about Adam in the early 1990s, he repeatedly denied involvement in the crime, even stating; “I’ve told you everything- how I killed them, how I cooked them, who I ate. Why wouldn’t I tell you if I did someone else?” After this rumor surfaced, John Walsh stated that he had “seen no evidence” linking his son’s kidnapping and murder to
Driven by his sexual fantasies, Jeffrey Dahmer is one of the most infamous examples of a hedonistic killer. Participating in cannibalism, Dahmer claims these acts were attempts at becoming closer to his victims.
Dahmer was always an outcast. In his early years, he seemed fascinated with death and dead animals. This carried on throughout his childhood. At puberty, not only was he a heavy alcoholic (first noted at age 14), but he was realizing he was gay. He had fantasies of a completely subservient partner whom he could totally control. These fantasies were
were also very hard for the Dahmer family to deal with. To many it was
Alcohol got the young Dahmer discharged from the army while he was stationed in Germany. He went to Florida, and tried to get a job. When his money ran out, and he had nothing to fall back on, Jeff called his father. Jeffrey was told that, no, he couldnt have any money, but he could have a plane ticket home.
...nd Dahmer”, Jeff Dahmer would go to school noticeably under the influence, yet somehow go by “unnoticed”. If the teachers were aware of Dahmer’s state, they never took any form of action to discipline him, question him, or be worried with his condition at all. Not once throughout the entirety of the graphic novel does a teacher, student, or parent seem remotely concerned with Dahmer’s well-being. Dahmer fought off the urge to kill many times and did it with the help of no one and nothing other than his own twisted mind, so there is reason to believe any type of assistance from an adult could have been detrimental in the process of Dahmer overcoming his violent urges. Unlike Benjie, Dahmer had no one to look up to and admire. Benjie was eventually able to appreciate and respect Butler Craig as a man who cared enough about him to put Benjie’s life above his own.
Jeffrey Lincoln Dahmer also known as The Milwaukee Cannibal and The Milwaukee Monster was born May 21st, 1960 to his parents Joyce Annette and Lionel Herbert Dahmer. When Dahmer was six years old he had minor hernia surgery that afterwards changes in his behavior were reported. He went from a happy young boy to increasingly insecure and a loss in self-confidence, these changes seemed to coincide with the birth of his younger brother David Dahmer who was born seven years after him. At age eight Jeffrey and his family moved to Bath Ohio due to his father’s career as an analytical chemist. The move seemed to deepen his already increasing odd behavior and seclusion from society. By age fourteen he started to have impulsions to murder and perform necrophilia, these impulsions were amplified again when his parents ’marriage fell apart and they divorced in 1977.
Dahmer was fascinated and did not hesitate to touch or pick them up. According to Lionel Dahmer, he was "oddly thrilled by the sound they made. His small hands dug deep into the pile of bones.” At the age of six, it was discovered that he needed surgery to fix a double hernia. Following his surgery, which coincided with the birth of his brother, there was a drastic change in the once happy, bubbly, outgoing child. Lionel Dahmer states "he seemed smaller, somehow more vulnerable... he grew more inward, sitting quietly for long periods, hardly stirring, his face oddly
Lionel and Joyce Dahmer gave birth to their first born, Jeffrey Dahmer, on May 21, 1960 in Milwaukee. Despite Joyce experiencing a difficult pregnancy, Dahmer was a healthy child who was wanted and adored by both his parents. However, his mother did start to become distant to him as she refused to breast feed him and started demonstrating unstable behavior along with substance abuse. Meanwhile, his father was pursuing his doctoral for chemistry in Iowa which limited the time Lionel had with his family. At age five, Dahmer’s little brother was born and that was when the feeling of neglect set in him. For the first time, the little attention provided from his parents had to be shared with his brother David. Dahmer began displaying extreme shyness but also severe tantrums. During the ages of six and seven, Dahmer “was regarded by other children as odd and bizarre (Martens, 2005).” Even though he did not show any interest in developing genuine social relations, Dahmer did demonstrate a fascination with bug and animal dissections. When Dahmer was six he had “undergone hernia surgery, when he woke up from the anesthesia he was worried someone could have cut his genitals, the pain lasted for one week and after a long recovery period his parents remember he turned to be very loner (Giannetakis, n.d.).” It is believed that at age eight Dahmer had been sexually abused by a boy in his neighborhood (Hickey, 2013). If this event did occur, it could explain why he developed destructive sexual fantasies at the young age of twelve. Despite him being aloof, it has been reported that he would seek attention by faking epileptic seizures at school and local shops. By his adolescent years, he developed compulsive masturbation which would eventually lead to legal trouble (Silva, 2002). At the age of fourteen, Dahmer turned to alcohol abuse in order to overcome his feeling of despair and compulsive thoughts of sexual violent acts.

During Dahmer’s psychiatric evaluation, Dr. Wahlstrom concluded, “Jeffrey was suffering from a mental illness never cured for” (FBI 1992). This leads me to perceive that Dahmer must have been displaying psychotic traits that went unnoticed and undocumented during his early lifetime. I can only speculate that this uncured mental illness lead Dahmer to develop and refine his inability to empathize with society; which in turn, lead him to engage in cruelty without mentally comprehending the victim’s suffering. Although the causes for psychopathy are unclear, some suggest that psychogenic aspects can outline abnormalities which may be present in psychopaths (Schmalleger 2014). When looking at Dahmer’s distant relationship with his parents early on in his childhood, I became conscious of the fact the lack of affection from his parents which may have lead him to develop twisted views on how one should display affection to others, thus prompting him to show psychotic behavior later on in life (The profile of Jeffrey Dahmer 1996). Even though the letter of the law fails to describe Dahmer and even if he was not fit to stand trial, I believe the court would have declared him fit for trial due to the brutality of the
There was no abuse or trauma that was said to have happened during his childhood; however, it was said that he became more reserved as he grew older. He showed little to no interest in hobbies, but he was fascinated by dead animals. During his high school years, he was heavily abusing alcohol which caused his father to make him enlist in the army. He was soon kicked out and went to live with his grandmother, who then reported that he was showing very odd behavior. His parents got divorced in July of 1978 and this took a negative toll on Jeffrey. Dvorchack states, “During the divorce, Jeffrey Dahmer was left alone. His mother moved to Wisconsin with his younger brother, David; his father had moved out of the house. He was left with no food, no money and a broken refrigerator” (Dvorchack). By that time, Jeffrey was already18 and had just committed his first murder. Between 1978-1991, Jeffrey Dahmer had killed over 17 males. Some would say his parents’ divorce and rejection is what caused Jeffrey to get out of hand. Secondly, the standard way of thinking about the topic of serial killers has it that from the day they’re born, they’re going to grow up with the traits of a stereotypical killer. Another
Jeffrey Dahmer’s last crime occurred over twenty years ago, but his name will forever be known. Jeffrey Dahmer started killing for the first time right after he graduated from Revere High School in 1978. Eighteen year old Steven Marks Hicks was hitchhiking to a concert close by Chippewa Lake Park in Wisconsin. His parents knew he was a night-owl, so when they never received a call from Hicks, they assumed he was fine and did not call because he simply forgot. “After killing Steven, he dismembered the body with a carving knife.
He started to show an interest in dead animals killing them and dissecting them. Which are early signs for serial killers. His alcoholism also formed during high school and he became an avid drinker. His alcoholism got so bad that it prevented him from getting the help he needed when he had the chance. His father sent him to enlist in the army but they kicked him out because of his alcohol problem. He also spent time in the hospital but was kicked out for the same issue. Dahmer then moved in with his grandmother and this is where things got strange. His grandmother found a .357 magnum gun underneath his bed and a male mannequin in his closet. He then continued on with his fixation with dead animals. Dahmer took dead squirrels into his basement, dissected them, and dissolved them with
