These disorders most likely played a serious role in his lack of empathy towards his victims and his horrific behaviors. Dahmer had a stressful relationship with his parents. His sense of loneliness, not being able to form bonds with others, might have caused behavioral problems later in life. Dahmer had to go through the pain associated with sexual confusion and identity problems. When he discovered his sexuality, he used shame and embarrassment on his victims. With time, Dahmer became more and more violent and disturbed in fantasy. The fantasies likely became obsessions, Dahmer was also an alcoholic. Substance abuse can enhance underlying psychological problems and bad decisions. This is the case with most serial killers, too. Jeffrey Dahmer is a notorious man and it is for all of the right reasons that he has been labeled notorious. From 1987 to 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer murdered, sexually assaulted, and dismembered seventeen young men. He has been defined as many different things: necrophile, sadist maniac, psychotic, and many more. There were many signs that led up to his deviant behavior. A look into his adolescence will show some of those clear signs.
Jeffrey Dahmer’s name didn’t always carry the terror it does today. This paper focuses on what exactly made him commit such horrendous acts of violence in the late 20th century. Through my research I have found that the criminology theory that best suits Jeffrey Dahmer is control theory.
Jeffrey Dahmer who is called as a psychopathy, a sex offender, a serial killer was born in West Allis, Wisconsin on May 21, 1960. He was responsible for serial murders of 17 young males in between the years of 1978 and 1991. He usually picked up victims in the gay bar and had sex with them before killing them. By the summer 1991, he started killing one person every week. He was caught on July 22, 1991 when Tracy Edwards who was a survivor and last intended a victim escaped and shopped him to police officers. The officers arrested him after they found several gruesome items such as human skulls and bones which were polished and preserved in his flat. Internal organs were discovered in the fridge and parts of these had been cannibalized. He sometimes nicknamed as the Milwaukee cannibal or Milwaukee monster, because he committed cannibalism, rape, dismemberment and necrophilia. Interesting thing was that he was not only a homosexual, but also he was necrophilia. He was sentenced to a total of 957years in prison and had been incarcerated his time at the Colombia Correctional Facility in Portage, Wisconsin. He was attacked twice in the time. The first attempt was left simple wounds in his neck. The second attack caused by an inmate led him death on November 28, 1994 (CrimeMuseum, 2014).

He was a very shy young boy who often collected dead animals and showed signs of necrophilia at an early age. In Abigail Strubel’s article (2007), “Jeffrey Dahmer: His Complicated, Comorbid Psychopathologies and Treatment Implications” she examines Dahmer's behavior which served as the key source of information concerning the multiple disorders that he had. These disorders contributed greatly to his notoriety deeming him as one of the worst serial killers within the 20th century. Within the article Strubel also uses several secondary sources such as journals and books in order to obtain the needed information for the article. Strubel strategically breaks the article into many sections in order to clearly define each disorder that Dahmer had. By doing so, this made the article very clear and concise and easy to read for any person.
