For my educational biography I chose my wife, Jael Dimich. I chose her because she was not born in the United States, but in Mexico. Her education was in the United States. She worked at a movie studio, but decided she wanted to make more of a difference in her career. She left her job at the movie studio to go to school to become a nurse. She had a very high paying job at the movie studio, but becoming a nurse is a much more rewarding experience. I wanted to interview my wife for this project because I think it is very noble to make a career change from a very high paying job, to a job that benefits everyday people. I interviewed my wife on September 23rd at around three o’clock in the afternoon. I interviewed her at our house. The interview …show more content…
It was a great experience for her. She had very nice teachers. She said preschool was a lot of fun. They played games in class and had a small playground with many things to climb and play on. The classes at her preschool were small, only about twenty five students were in her class. After preschool my wife attended kindergarten. My wife found it scary at first. It was intimidating to start learning all new things. The teacher, however made the experience very fun, but sometimes boring. After kindergarten, the rest of her elementary school career began. My wife said her time in the rest of elementary school was sometimes scary, but she learned a lot and had great teachers. Her fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Ford left a great impression her on. She was very involved in hands on projects with her students. She would read aloud stories every Friday to her class. She was a very animated teacher. However, when they would learn math it was very dull and boring. Math was my wife’s least favorite subject. Math to her seemed like the “banking system”. (Freire, 2009). The teacher, instead of communicating, they would just make “deposits”. The students would then just memorize and repeat what the teacher just said. It was a very boring way of …show more content…
We both attended preschool and had similar experiences. Our teachers were very nice and fun. When we attended kindergarten we both enjoyed it. Both our teachers were very fun and animated. They made a new experience that was scary seem less frightening. They both created very welcoming environments for their students. My wife’s fifth grade teacher was very fun-loving and a joy to be around. My fifth grade teacher was the opposite. He would make fun of the students, and when they passed around notes to each other, he would take them and read them aloud. During middle school my wife’s experience consisted of people at her school being more focused on dating other on education, but for me it was the opposite. The people at my middle school were very much focused on their education. My wife and I had similar high school experiences. We both enjoyed it and took advance placement classes. My wife and I both went to community college, but I transferred to a four year college after community college. My wife and I enjoyed school a lot and both believe it is important to broaden children’s
I visited Mrs. Cable’s kindergarten classroom at Conewago elementary school one afternoon and observed a math lesson. Mrs. Cable had an attention-grabbing lesson and did many great things in the thirty minutes I observed her. I have my own personal preferences, just like every teacher, and I do have a few things I would do differently. There are also many ways this observation can be related to the material discussed in First Year Seminar.
When I walked into the school, I was greeted by the receptionist who kindly showed me where to sign in and then directed me to the teacher I would be observing for the day. The staff was dressed very appropriate for the day and on Friday they were able to wear pink because it was October. Although I did not see much interaction with factuality with each other, I was able to witness when the teachers of a certain grade would come to pick up their students. I saw how the teachers interacted with Mrs. Lee and they were very respectful. The student’s behavior varied from class to class. Most of the classes were well behaved with only a few students causing disruption. Mrs. Lee had warned me that the kindergarten class is normally noisier than other classes, but to her surprise the students were very quiet and did their work independently with no interruptions. Mrs. Lee did a wonderful job at keeping the students disciplined within the classroom. She would give positive re-enforcement and correct students when they would do something incorrectly. She worked really well with the students and they students responded in a respectful manner to Mrs.
After I finished my observation I learned lot things I hadn’t realized by how they interacted with each other. I've been around children before but never analyzed their behavior or explained it using psychology. I have a newfound appreciation and sympathy for elementary school teachers, the kids still have a lot of cognitive developments growth to do and it takes a benevolent person to do such a work. Overall I found the experience fascinating and enlightening.
Kathy’s involvement in teaching was inspired by her mom who was a 7th grade teacher at Pete Middle School in Cedar Falls. She also babysat so she already knew she liked kids. As Kathy entered into high school and then to college, she taught the Sunday School at her church. This only strengthened her desire to become a teacher. Kathy said in the interview that she just “seemed to connect with the age level of 7th grade.” All of these factors
I sat with her every other day for the first four months of the past school year, and gave her specific expectations and examples to ensure extreme clarity. This teacher became one of our most requested staff members this year, due to her successful implementation and the step-by-step planning of the newly adopted Common Core State Standards. She truly respected the time that I took to work along her side, even though I hadn’t taught Language Arts or History at the Middle School level. The wealth of instructional strategies that I provided, alongside her content knowledge served her Steadiness Personality and Behavior style that is motivated by cooperation and sincere appreciation.
Correcting this issue will be difficult, but possible. Throughout high school I did not have the best values that I have today. I did what other kids thought was cool like any other high school student trying to fit into a new place. In the future, I plan on pursuing a career in education. I plan on demonstrating the values of equality very thoroughly. Making a safe and pleasant environment is what I am hoping to accomplish. A teacher can impact a student’s life heavily. For example, my sophomore year theology teacher Mr. Finnochio, was a man of integrity. I never met a nicer, more thoughtful person in my life. The way he spoke to the class and respected everyone else’s opinion was extraordinary. He never judged or excluded anyone from anything and he impacted my life greatly. Mr. Finnochio is the reason why I would like to fulfill a career in education. I have experienced it and I know teachers can make a difference in this
Brooke Smith Professor Molland EDUC101 22 January 2015 Schools are arguably the best resources for teaching children and young adults how to be well-rounded individuals. The teachers influence the student’s lives tremendously and hopefully leave a good impact on the student’s education. From the very first moment the students and teachers meet, they are impacting one another’s lives. Some teachers, whether they are good or bad, affect the student’s lives forever.
One thing that I am sure about the teachers and students that I interact with is that, they are all different. I have a couple of friends who are always late for lessons, a friend with an inconsistent attendance record and some guys and ladies that I do not talk to a lot, who is always early for the lessons, doesn’t miss any, hands in assignments early and participates actively in group discussions. These are three different groups of people who approach education and the curriculum from different angles. For me, I enjoy the teaching process and I do not regret a single second that I spend in class or in the library. I also believe that I have a positive attitude towards the curriculum and school environment. It is hard to discern whether the guys who take classes and assignments serious share the same belief, but they are as comfortable with what the school system offers. For the late comers and those with a poor attendance record, it is quite evident that the school system, or timetable does not fit their schedule or life
For example, I got off to a rough start with her because I never had a teacher who was so welcoming, but because of the kind heart that she has, she found ways to get to know me even when I didn’t have to describe specifics about myself. If it wasn 't for her I probably wouldn 't be where I am today. She encouraged me to see a little further down the road, along with picturing how I would want to spend the rest of my life. In my eyes, she played a role as a problem solver. I think in a teacher, that’s a great aspect of having because it makes students feel more comfortable and keeps students more engaged in class with activities and lessons. My educational philosophy contains many things: of course, to get an education, to be active in learning, get feedback on students, steady learning environment, and a student-teacher emotional connection. I would really like my students to be engaged because it shows me if they 're learning. Somehow I would like to get feedback from my students because I would be able to understand where they are at with the learning process. Moreover, I would love that student-teacher emotional connection because I want to be able to relate somehow to my students or just even understand what they been thru in their lives. Kinda similar to what I remember
As I was pondering what to speak about tonight, I started thinking about what has been the main influence in my school experience. I realized that what has shaped me most has been my teachers. What is a teacher? After 13 years of school, believe me, I have an extremely good idea of what a teacher is. Two teachers began to teach me, my father and my mother. The poet Ann Taylor wrote, "Who taught my infant lips to pray, And love God’s holy book and day, And walk in wisdom’s pleasant way? My Mother."
A kindergarten class offers a more conventional and integrated learning than the preschool environment. A kindergarten teacher will still stimulate their student’s curiosity about the world around them while getting them used to a structured classroom setting. They are...
For some reason or another certain students are drawn to particular teachers while other students are more fond of others. In my life I have studied under three memorable teachers. Teachers with which I was able to connect, to laugh, to share my misgivings. While I may have been close with each of these teachers, it is very clear, in retrospect, that each was very unique, and represented an entirely different class of teacher.
"Amy, you are really getting great at memorizing you times tables," said Mrs. Field, my first grade math teacher, "here is your sticker, and I will put a star next to your name for finishing the 3's times table!" I loved receiving my stickers and I especially loved getting a star next to my name. These small acts made me feel so special, that I had really done something great. This is how I remember my teachers from kindergarten until the fourth grade. Every teacher I had was encouraging, loving, and supportive of each student that they taught. If one student fell behind, the teacher made extra sure to teach and re-teach the subject until it was understood. Once I entered the fifth grade and into middle and high school, each teacher that I had tried to be encouraging, loving, and supportive of their students; however, my teachers often had too many students to give the individual attention that so many children need. When I began to fall behind in certain subjects, my teachers tried to help but were often unable to teach and re-teach, because they had no choice but to continue on with their lesson plans. I continued to fall further and further behind; therefore, I had to spend many hours after school working on my homework problems with my parents. Up until the fifth grade, I attended private school with about 15-20 students in my class; from the fifth grade on, I attended public school with about 30-35 students in each of my classes. This high number of students in my public school classrooms had a negative effect on my learning experiences.
Like many people, my personal experiences have shaped who I am. As a future educator, I want my students to respect me as a teacher, but understand that I will be there for every one of them, whenever they need me. I will not judge them; I will only encourage them to do their best. I will show them that learning can be fun and that school is more than just memorizing facts, it’s about opening your mind to new ideas and experiencing things that will change your
I have decided to become a teacher because I love children. I enjoy watching them grow, and I want to make a difference in the lives of my students. As a teacher, I will do everything that I can to ensure that each becomes a productive, successful citizen in life. In order for me to obtain this goal, I will create a loving, positive, respectful, and safe learning environment where each student will be treated equally and be encouraged to do his or her best. Keeping this in mind, there are four elements that I must remember which includes (1) how young children develop, (2) what they should know and be able to do, (3) instructional strategies that I have learned, and (4) my feelings regarding parent involvement.
