Introduction The banking industry is under pressure in today’s business climate. Banks have been through big changes. There is opportunity, but there is also increasing competition. To be the preferred bank means changing “good enough” into a unique value proposition. And that means changing the way people have always done things, change on this level requires cutting edge technology. Change cannot be achieved with a simple directive or surface adjustment especially within the banking industry. It requires an innovative rethink of the entire system, in a strong partnership between bank leaders and their change agents. New systems and policies must support the strategy to be successful. The real test of a good strategy implementation plan is whether the people understand the strategy, are motivated and enabled to implement it, and actually start achieving its goals. Innovation JPMorgan Chase is one of the largest and best known banks in the banking industry. JP Morgan Chase is a global financial service firm with operations in over 50 countries. With a CEO who is known as one of the banking industries top leaders it is obvious why they are in the top 10 of the fortune 500. Although JP Morgan Chase bank is one of the leaders in the industry I believe they are a long way away from being the most innovative bank around. Banks can be one of the most targeted locations for robberies which is why I find it important for them to protect their customers and themselves. Utilizing computerized bankers would be a good start to safety within their branches. Money should not be kept on the floor of any bank to avoid unnecessary situations. At Wells Fargo, teamwork and sales are important skills needed in order to succeed as a teller. At Wells Fargo, I plan to incorporate a system where each teller gains the skills necessary so that each task runs efficiently. To begin, I will start observing each banker’s, and each teller’s normal routine. I will be listening carefully to the conversations the tellers, and bankers are having with customers. As an observer, I will be taking notes on what the employee’s strengths and weakness are when lobbying to a customer, and working with coworkers. I will continue this process for a week. In 1871, the banking house of Drexel, Morgan & Co. was established by John Pierpont Morgan. "Twenty four years later it was renamed J.P. Morgan & Co., which it was to remain until the firm's purchase by Chase Manhattan in 2000. (Hughes 23) At this point, Chase Manhattan was the largest banking company in the United States. This was a far cry from the 1980's when Morgan "boasted the largest market capitalization of any American bank and was more expensive to buy than Citicorp. (Hughes 11)" While J.P. Morgan could not imagine the path banking would take in the U.S. with his passing in 1913; his banking house would have a strong hold on American banking for much of the 20th century. The introduction of bank holding companies and certain laws placing restrictions on American banking such as the Glass Steagall Act of 1934 brought about many changes in American banking and allowed for the emergence of international banks to supplant the "House of Morgan" in the new era. They were established in 1852, and have been widely trusted and generally scandal free since their company began doing business (Wells Fargo, 2016). That is, until July of 2016. In 2016 it was revealed that Wells Fargo’s employees were creating fraudulent accounts in peoples’ names without their permission or knowledge. The damages were severe, and the company has had to completely rebuild their reputation. While the company received a lot of social stigma through their fiasco, their finances were surprisingly unchanged. While the company is still dealing with the publicity of the scandal, they are handling it gracefully, and with the policies that they
John Pierpont Morgan is considered one of the founding fathers of the modern United States economy. He was an industrial genius that is accredited with the founding of many companies including General Electric and AT&T. However, Pierpont is looked upon as a saint and demon the same. He received a honorary degree from Harvard university that read: "Public citizen, patron of literature and art, prince among merchants, who by his skill, wisdom and courage, has twice in times of stress repelled a national danger of financial panic." But Robert LaFollette, the Wisconsin progressive, saw him as "a beefy, red-faced thick-necked financial bully, drunk with wealth and power." Despite conflicting opinion on his persona, his influence and character shaped the business world more so than any other person at the turn of the century. Morgan was a banker, railroad czar, industrialist, financier, philanthropist, yachtsman, and ladies' man. He was king to a handful of millionaire barons who controlled the country's wealth in an era of little government regulation.

The bank was an attempt to bring some stability and control and was successful at doing this. However, both times the bank was chartered, forces within the economy ultimately destroyed it.
