College is one of the most important things in any young American's mind growing up. Al throughout their lives, they are told about the wonders of college - of how great it is and all of the knowledge you could attain. It wouldn't be an overstatement if I said it is the major topic on the minds of students in high school. But, should it be a major topic on the minds of students in middle school or even elementary school? No one will disagree that starting college preparation early is a good idea, but will starting it too soon have negative repercussions? This is the great question at hand. There are positives and negatives to both starting college preparation earlier or later but, I honestly believe it should not start earlier than high school for most students. …show more content…
To start off, if you begin your preparation before high school, you will know what the right classes to take there. For example, if you want to go to a culinary institute or become an agricultural mechanic, you'd want to take the accompanying classes provided in high school rather than just taking classes to fill the schedule. Another benefit, would be a greater emphasis placed on school by students. If students are told to prepare for college as early as possible with the information that there grades will help them, they will obviously take it more seriously. In addition to this, it would give students something to work at, as many high school students do not know what they want to do in the future. Pushing them into a certain direction would no doubt help them develop some possible aspirations. Perhaps the most important reason starting prep early is the way it gets you familiar with the college systems; IE. applications, scholarships, degrees. This helps when the inevitable application frenzy occurs during senior year, as if you already know what to do, you won't have to learn in a constricted time
In recent discussions of education, a controversial issue has been whether or not to go to college after high school. On the one hand, some argue that starting your career after high school is the smart thing to do. On the other hand, however, others argue that the smarter decision would be to continue your schooling by going to college to get a degree. In sum, then, the issue is whether or not college is the right decision for you. My own view is that you should go to college because it helps you build character, start a tradition, and gives you experience.
Caroline Bird writes the statement in her 1975 article “The Case Against College (Bird 15-18)” that not every high school graduate is ready to attend college. It is 2010 and this article is still valid today. Some of the college students I have been around were not mature enough for obedience school let alone college. A few of the points she makes in the article are: College has never worked its magic for everyone. Does it make you a better person? Are colleges responsible for your children? Are my children living in a country club? I will use some of my own experiences as an example of college life, as well as examples from my daughter’s college experience, along with my nephews as well. All to find the answer to the big question: Are you ready for a college education?
This discussion is important in our society today because we constantly push the idea of college on to kids that may not even be ready for
By being connected to the right people in the right positions who would be willing to serve as your mentor, you are likely to get more exposure in your field of study, and this can setup you up to move right into a position that you would like to work. Early college will continue to challenge yourself instead of staying in high school just wasting time and hindering your growth when you know that you are ready for a challenge. Being able to go to college early will bring about better job opportunities and show the higher level of maturity of your child. Lastly, it sets the highest goals to help students achieve more and be the best they can
Some students would argue that a college education is not a vital aspect of the future of children because it is too much schooling, costs too much, and it is not needed for their future. First of all, these students have struggled through 13 years of school whether elementary, middle, or high school. They have endured many long days and late nights to pass their classes. Although it is true that 4+ more years of school will be mentally tough and hard to endure, these important years will help shape
The Early College Program will help me obtain skills that I will be able to use for the rest of my life. Skills such as time management, good work ethic, and self-discipline. The Early College Program will help me better develop my time management skills because I will have to juggle the work from my regular classes plus college classes and maybe even a part time job.
Finally I will give examples, sight articles and statistics that will persuade you that getting a college degree is important and no time is better to start than right after high school
In conclusion, college is a huge milestone in a person 's life. What they do with their time and money during those years can be crucial to what they get out of it. General education classes should not be a requirement because they have already been taught a majority of the curriculum in high school, some of the classes can have nothing to do with your major, and it can be a waste of money by spending it on classes that they are not interested in. By making it a requirement to take general classes, you are taking away time that they could be devoting to their interests and major. College should be a time where you focus on learning what you are gonna do for the rest of your life, not trying to learn every possible subject that a school can offer.
A child does not typically think about their life ahead. Although, they may not think about college, it is still there. Life ahead means getting a job to make money for everything else and if one wants a well paying job in the future, then college is the best option. College education is worth it because it makes a person better and more educated, college is not as expensive as some think, and the college pays for itself once there is a job to pay for it.
magine this, You are either a student or parent of a student, that has straight A's and excels in their classes. The principal calls you to his office to discuss taking high school and/or college- level classes in the 7th grade. What would your answer be? Would you say it's too early for the rigor of education, or would you say that your child is ready for that level of education? If students feel that they are comfortable enough to advance to the next level, they should be entitled to do so. Due to the rigor of college, such as long essays, studying skills, and proper time management, students should start preparing for college early, even in middle school.
Many students fresh out of high school tend to head straight into college life. Many teachers, family, and sometimes friends give college a false image and/or they pressure the student into going to college. The value of a college education to me is that of importance. It is becoming more and more required as the days go on. College beginning said to be for everyone, how I value college education, college teaching styles each show some importance. While many students think that a college education should only provide specific job skills, there should be a balance of intellectual development, reading, and critical thinking.
The ability to receive college credit in high school is a great way to get started but the way you are taught and how the courses are run also give you a slight taste of how college will work and be ran. When I get stumped during a course I try to figure out the problem by myself before I go and ask for help. The help I need was always provided The teachers that taught the college classes were always able to give feedback to make a better student and to help me grow in the mindset of a college and high school
The first thing that I went through was something that started when I was six. That is when I started kindergarten at Kirbyville School. I went to Kirbyville until grade six and then transferred to Branson and went there until I graduated as a senior of the class of 2002. Here is where I learned valuable skills that I can use in college. We all know that we learn the basics like counting and our ABC's all the way up to trigonometry and College Prep English. The most important thing about high school though is that you learn perseverance to get through rigorous studying and long homework assignments. These things prepare you for college. So schooling before college is a very big investment because that is the first building block of getting a job later in life that provide you with a lot of capital.
If highschool started at a later time in the day, students will be able to stay awake in class. Often teenagers stay up too late playing games or their brains won’t let them go to sleep. If we were to push the start of the day then teens would have more time to sleep in the morning. The more sleep students get the less likely they are to fall asleep in class. Well rested teens provide teachers with less stress, and students with better grades.
College is a very important thing. If you go to college you will most likely get better pay in your career. Also, with a college degree, you have more opportunities. I believe that everyone should go to college. If you don’t go to college and just go into some job and that fails then you have no backup plan.
