Isaac Newton
Isaac Newton was born January 4th, 1643. Newton was born premature, and not expected to survive. When he was 3 years old, his mother moved away, leaving him to his grandmother. He entered Trinity College, in Cambridge, England. However, the plague caused the university to close, forcing Newton to return to Woolsthorpe between 1666 to 1667, a very important period of time when he performed experiments for gravitation and optics. Newton made many important discoveries and inventions.These included optics, gravity and motion laws, and calculus.. He designed and constructed a reflecting telescope in 1668. gravitation, the three laws of motion, and calculus. His invention of calculus is used to solve scientific equations. There is a well known myth was that Isaac Newton was sitting under an apple tree, when he was hit on the head by an apple, a “aha moment” that suddenly gave him the idea of gravity.
That however, never happened. He was in the orchard and saw an apple drop from a tree, and this caused him to ponder why it fell straight to the ground, and not sideways or upward. This is the ‘aha’ moment that led him to create and develop the law of universal gravitation.
Many people disagreed Isaac newton's theories and ideas, such as Robert Hooke and Christiaan Huygens. Hooke was a big influence on newton, because of hooke's reputation in the scientific world, his criticism hurt newton. Newton could not handle his criticism, eventually going into a rage. Edmund Halley was a positive influence on newton. They were colleagues, and inspired newton to publish his works on gravitation in his later years. His book on gravitation were called ''The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy.''
Newton is well known by many. He was the first scientist knighted in 1705, and is why he is called “sir” Isaac newton. Newton also eventually took the role of president of the Royal
Society. I believe Newton is a overrated scientist. Yes, he contributed many things, but many scientists are overlooked. I also think Newton had mental disorders and illnesses as shown from the way he acted around people and paranoia of his work. Isaac Newton, (1642-1727) was an English scientist and statesman. Although his views were thought to contradict the bible he was the only man of these three which proved his views to be true. He discovered gravity and the laws of motion. He stated that, 'every particle in the universe is attracted to every other particle by a force that is directly related to the product of their masses and inversely related to the squares of the distance between them.
This caused him to discover his third and finally law which is Newton’s Third Law of motion. Newton’s third law states that every action or force has an equal but opposite reaction. Isaac Newton was a British Mathematician and Philosopher. He published his most acclaimed book Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica. He would often sit in the garden for hours on end just thinking and formulating his ideas about the universe. In the prologue, the book describes how this equation told scientists in NASA how to escape gravity and leave the earth to go to the moon. After learning about the Hermetic tradition it influenced him to look at a different perspective into his discoveries and theories. One of the myths that followed the discovery is his discovery of universal gravitation. It is said that while Isaac Newton was thinking about the forces of nature, an apple fell on his head and he found the theory of gravity. There is no evidence that an apple fell on Newton’s head, but the evidence is shown that Newton got an idea of the theory of gravity when he saw an apple fall from a tree. His father had died 3 months before. Newton had a difficult childhood. His mother, Hannah Ayscough Newton remarried when he was just three, and he was sent to live with his grandparents. After his stepfather’s death, the second father who died, when Isaac was 11, Newtons mother brought him back home to Woolsthorpe in Lincolnshire where he was educated at Kings School, Grantham. Newton came from a family of farmers and he was expected to continue the farming tradition , well that’s what his mother thought anyway, until an uncle recognized how smart he was. Newton's mother removed him from grammar school in Grantham where he had shown little promise in academics. Newtons report cards describe him as 'idle' and 'inattentive'. So his uncle decided that he should be prepared for the university, and he entered his uncle's old College, Trinity College, Cambridge, in June 1661. Newton had to earn his keep waiting on wealthy students because he was poor. Newton's aim at Cambridge was a law degree. At Cambridge, Isaac Barrow who held the Lucasian chair of Mathematics took Isaac under his wing and encouraged him. Newton got his undergraduate degree without accomplishing much and would have gone on to get his masters but the Great Plague broke out in London and the students were sent home.
