Is There a Correlation Between High School Drop Outs and Delinquency?

When youths decide not to complete grade school they are increasing their risk of being incarcerated. Not achieving a full education could cause a domino effect in juveniles leading them to crime or delinquent behavior. Delinquency is the committing of a crime or wrongful act by a juvenile or youth. In this society education is important to increase your chances of higher pay or a decent job. On just about every application for employment your educational background is asked for. When placed in a situation where you are unable to get a job it is highly likely that this would lead to criminal acts. Other major concerns that could lead to juvenile delinquency are peers, income and authority figures.

Studies have been done to determine if there is a correlation between high school drop outs and delinquency. The problem is in areas where there are high delinquencies rates there are also high dropout rates. The questions at hand is, is this solely due to the youths dropping out of school or are there other issues at fault that could lead the youths to delinquency. The research has shown there is an inverse correlation between high school dropouts and delinquency but high school dropouts aren’t the only issues that will be addressed but also peers, and authority controversy when leading to the cause of delinquency.
Education
If the dropout rate is addressed it is possible to deter its outcome of delinquency. It is reported that most crimes such as robbery happen during the day between the hours of 6a.m. and 6p.m. These are the times that the average home is vacant. Literature has found that antisocial behavior such as delinquency peaks in adolescence, beginning in early adolescence and decreasing around late adolescent ( Moffitt 1993). Male adolescents are more likely than female adolescents to be involved in delinquent behavior ( Moffitt and Caspi 2001; Moore and Hagedorn 2001). In majority of family homes males are brought up to be protective and tough while females are brought up to be lady like and not so rough.

Methods
The form of methods used in this article was the review and research from previous authors. The paper is to make an explanation as to why there is a correlation between delinquency and dropouts rates in communities.
