Is there an American Dream? For many, the American Dream has become a nightmare. The American Dream is the ideal lifestyle every American wants to live. The typical American Dream everyone wants to live up to is to be financially stable, successful, and to have a nice home with a family. Then again, not everyone has the same American Dream they want to achieve because many Americans have realized reality and know the typical American Dream is just a fantasy.. Not everyone's American Dream is the same. Courtney Martin explains in her TED Talk, The New American Dream, “People are redefining what ‘better off” means”. Americans are now changing what they want in their life. People have realized it is hard to get what you want. They see “better off’ as having a roof over their heads rather than owning their own home. Americans have changed their perspectives on what a content life they want to live. Many people base it off of how much income they are receiving and since people aren’t making how much they should their expectations are really low. Americans are changing their view on the American Dream because it is getting harder to live the typical American Dream. Many people have realized reality and know no matter how hard they work they’re not going to get very far. In the poem Let America Be America Again it states, “The millions who have nothing for our pay- Except the dream that’s almost dead today”(Hughes, 1). Many businesses in America are not paying their employers what they are worth. They pay their employers less than what they deserve. The American Dream is almost dead due to Americans not receiving enough income for their work. In the poem Let America Be America Again it states, “I am the farmer, bondsman to the soil.
