“Is the American Dream dead or alive?” is a common question people ask. One answer the that question is that the the American Dream is dying because of the changes that the world has put on it. The meaning, the people, and the society have all changed since it has come to exist in this world. When the American Dream was introduced by James Truslow Adams it was the pursuit of corporate success and unlimited job opportunities for all (“How has the American Dream Changed through Time”). The generalized idea of the American Dream in the 1930s was maximizing opportunity,working hard to earn a living, finding financial success, owning a home and retiring comfortably around the age of sixty-five(“How has the American Dream Changed through Time”). It is also important to state the dream isn't just for material success but includes spiritual, vocational, and educational(Stephen Stone). When the dream first started America was great in areas such as invention, science, litters industry, arts, religion,and culture precisely because the dream made it possible (Stephen Stone). In these same areas America is failing (Stephen Stone). Stone even said “Consider that if the American Dream were still truly alive today, none of us would ever need to do anything in order to ‘qualify’ for compelling interest- things any industrious person can gain largely on his own in today’s world of easily accessible information, communication, and practical experience.”(Stephen Stone). A sliver of it still exists and some can reach the many wonderful opportunities even as the dream has diminished to the point of dying out (Stephen Stone).
